greasergroff Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 hey just wondering if anyone knows where i can find a 16 tooth front sprocket with the renthal style lightweight holes in it?the only sprockets i see with the holes in them are 15 tooth and under. Quote
BigRed350x Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 Why? You're not even cutting enough weight to notice, and only weakening the sprocket & asking for trouble. Unless you are very accuate and drill the holes evenly, you will also throw the weight balance of the sprocket off and induce some vibration into your output shaft... Quote

greasergroff Posted August 12, 2012 Author Report Posted August 12, 2012 yeah i would never drill the holes unless i used my buddys milling machine for obvious balancing reasons. i just want the lightest sprocket i can get thats all. so what brand sprockets are u guys running when over a 15 tooth? really would like renthal but only can find 15 tooth.thanks Quote
J-Madd Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 www.rebelgears.com. They make their own, as well as lighten, rear sprockets. I'm sure they can lighten the countershaft sprockets they sell. Quote
dajogejr Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 While I completely understand weight and rotating mass, that's one gear I don't think I'd mess with to be honest. Rear sprocket, sure...but front, I'd leave it as is. Quote
Surfrjag Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 i have witnessed the lightend front sprockets break... Quote
greasergroff Posted August 17, 2012 Author Report Posted August 17, 2012 ok sounds good i just figured since they made them in 15 tooth and below i would try and find a manufacture that had them but since everyone says to avoid them and people witnessing them breaking then ill def. stay with a solid set up.thanks for input guys Quote
n2otoofast4u Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 was this a serious question? Can we get a pic of your bike Quote
#1JUANstunna Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 I would remove every other lug nut too to reduce rotating mass. It works great! Quote
SlowerThanYou Posted August 18, 2012 Report Posted August 18, 2012 We run a 17 tooth lightened/drilled front sprocket. It has over 200 runs on asphalt & over 100 runs on sand. It hasn't broken yet. Quote
greasergroff Posted August 23, 2012 Author Report Posted August 23, 2012 thanks slowerthanyou for input and not being an ass like the couple above. and sure if you would really like pics i can send them to you.i am a really quite the decent builder and vary meticulous about the things i build wether it be my high 8 sec zx12r or my banshees.really guys not everyone on this site is a complete idiot nor need talked to like a child.thanks for all those who chimed in with serious replys.sprocket is done and it is 16 tooth solid.
