What happenec

Recommended Posts

People on this site used to want to help others. Seems like lately all anyone wants to do is say lose the booste bottle, tors, and 2 into 1. Not really much more help than than pointing out the search.

I used to read on here a couple years before I bought my bike in 07, and people then answered every question posed. Whether it was a similar post or not. Not every bike and situation is the same and can be solved by the search. It gets u good info, and for those of us that just like to learn, its great. But if a post is new, please try to help. The more people we help and keep with the banshee brotherhood the better. But if people cant get help theyll sell and leave, if u dont like to help, ok, bit dont just suggest the search, makes us all look like douschebags.....

Thats my rant.. Thanks for ignoring.........

Sorry, but the open ended loaded questions like "what gives me more power?" can be answered with a little effort and research. And losing the boost bottle is beneficial to EVERYONE. I think I'd be more willing to answer a common question if it started like this....

I've got a stock banshee with T5 pipes and the toomey filter with tors removed. My elevation is at 1100' and according to the research I should be at XXX jets. It appears to still be running lean. I did a leakdown test and it passed. Can you help me out?

Most of the questions however, are more like this....

I got T5s and filter, what should my jetting be at?

If guys are not willing to put in the effort to research on their own and just post another topic that is almost IDENTICAL to a previous posted topic, it gets a little annoying giving them the same exact answer. Most of what I learned was by doing research. And when I suggest that someone search the forums, it is for a reason. When I look for information on a product I usually walk away with added knowledge from searching vs. a direct answer from another member. They will learn a lot more by browsing through other topics.

End rant lol

EDIT: I should add it isn't a BHQ specif issue. Basically every forum that has been around for a few years will experience the same basic questions posted every week. lol

I understand that some are redundant. But alot are not. Seems like people are more apt to answer with a use search answer than trying to be helpful.

I read alot and dont post unless I really need help, and seems like I hardly get any...

Its just hard when people need help and cant get it.

Another thing that happend is the original posters. They ask a question, you give an answer but you never hear or see of them again. A discussion forum is exactly that. Discussions involve two parties, the Origninal Poster and the people trying to help. It is nice to get feedback on what the problem was and what fixed it. People post asking for help and then never come back to let us know what the out come is.

They treat this place like it is Yahoo Answers, or Ask.com

Reading thru this, and Booker, youre totally right. I have to say that Im guilty of that myself. When I do find an answer from info given here its more like WOOOOHOOOOO success! The very next thing should be to post an answer to my own question, or what worked for me.

After this, Ill be more aware of the final post as well, thanks!

The last time I answered a redundant post(about the park brake rev limiter and TORS) I first reminded them to use the search function and then wrote a long paragraph explaining it once again. People need to do a little research BEFORE they ask questions and supply the basic info we need so we have a starting point to help them. I am always willing to help someone out if they can tell me what I need to know to start out.

I find the search feature here to be almost useless. Put in a topic and I either get tons of stuff that has nothing to do with what I was looking for, or the answer is try typing more info. It's like if you don't match the title of the post of wording of what you want perfectly you get nothing.

Search BHQ? PITA!

I agree with Larry's Shee and WINDYCITYJOHN400, I've tried to look for things too and it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

I also agree with gotta_gofast in that people ask questions without the proper information needed to help them.

There will always be a few idiots, and those that don't post a 'thank you' follow up with what fixed the problem in order to help the next guy, but that's what happens in a public forum about a complicated machine like the Banshee.

If you see a question and can find a link to a previous post attach it!

If you need more info ask, most guys don't know any better but will follow up if you're trying to help them.

I personally have a friend who used to race so he is a HUGE help to me as a noob in the Banshee world. Unfortunatley not everyone has a friend like that nor the money to pay a shop to fix their bike.

Rant mode off, flame suit on...

Sounds to me like maybe there needs to be a sticky that includes common search terms for people to search for certain questions. Someone new may not know what key words to put in to answer their question. It's almost always like that searching any forum, the right key words for what you're looking for are not always so obvious.

i agree with both sides here......i think some have started to give less than great instructions on how to solve problems HOWEVER.....i think that it is because of the newer younger crowd that is now trying to fix things and instead of wanting to go through the work, they are used to and still want to just have it instantly fixed without the joy\entertainment\frusttrations that come along with trouble-shooting.......which is how you learn.

i also do find it annoying when the same titles keep coming up...... help! wont run.... or jetting.... or is this right?....

I think Larry's shee is right though......YES the search option is less than desired.....however it WILL bring up the info you need.....you just need to look for the right answer a little deeper sometimes.....more than just glancing at the first 3 posts and getting mad because its not right there.

TO THE YOUNGER CROWD: Yes there are still some of us around here that WANT to help you. And we will help you......if YOUR willing to help out also. If your looking for an answer and expect to just turn a screw and have the motor completely fixed....it wont be. We need you to understand that you WILL need to get your hands dirty and you WILL occasionally need to say "sorry guys...can't go riding right now.....gotta tear the motor down and fix the problem." Some problems need a little bit of R & R to come to a conclusion as to what is wrong.....some are just sitting there in front of you and the answer is slapping the shit outta you.

Im sorry if this is a little bit of a rant for you.....

And if your a younger crowd individual who HAS found this offensive.....then you are one of the crowd that was raised stuck on your mama's tit too long and needs to be introduced to the world of reality.....sometimes you need to drop your purse....attach your nuts to where they belong and get your hands dirty. BESIDES....you may actually find that you actually enjoy it.

Entitlement mentality "I want an answer and I want it now" banghead There's a thread going right now of someone wanting the part no. of the screws for the plastic. GIVE ME AN EFFIN BREAK !! May I google that for you? That and they want answers that are in a repair manual. I guess you can download it for free, don't know.

Even if the search doesnt work good it gets you in the ball park. If not try another search term. Or ,wait now, just start doing a manual search. OMG :whoa: You mean I have to work for it? The little bit of knowledge I have on banshees I aquired from reading posts. Kinda like Johhny 5 , input. The rest is general life experience of messing with 2 strokes since before they had reed valves.

Even if there were a sticky on common problems, ie, slides wrong, choke tube , etc. I doubt many would read it , though it would be good to have.

Rant #2 over, :evil::flush::bolt:

P.S. Buy a manual, $30 on E-bay for the book or $5 for the electronic edition.

P.S.S. If you don't want to work on your Banshee on a regular basis, buy a 4-stroke!

P.P.S.S. Life is hard, get used to it.

I get the little shit no one wants to answer again and again. But there are some genuine questions that never get opinions because it seems everyone is spending their time giving someone shit about the search.

I use it, but mostly I am on here a couple hrs a day just reading posts and looking at pics. Im trying to learn as much as I can so if I ever have a prob I have a reference of a post I read and remember others ideas.

Im not trying to stir shit, just asking people to help those that need it, dont waste time telling someone to use search, spend it answering a real question please. If no one helps those redundant ones, theyll eventually learn to use search or just read thru the topics..
