guns4children Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 i had my stock head shaved down by a local shop .20 and when i put it on my new topend it was only at 130 pounds. I would like it up to about 150 or just high enough that i could run plus4 timing and pump gas. Would i be able to have a site sponsor shave my head and cut the domes to give me added performance? Larry's Shee Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 Couple of site sponsers do heads, don't recall which ones. What was your compression before? Quote
06specialedition Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 Brandon @ Wildcard Racing should be able to do it. Give him or Shay a call and ask -Zach Quote
crustydemon Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 That doesnt sound right, sounds like you needed a top end rebuild first. Hope that shop knew what they were doing and brought your squish back to were it is supposed to be. Quote
trx4502shee Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 you should just buy a cool head and get the domes you want instead of paying a machine shop to do the stock head if you ever go a different route with the top end such as go bigger with the pistons like 65.00 you need to get the head cut for that piston size Quote
ionroller Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 put some oil down the spark plug holes, if comprehsion goes up its time for rings? Quote
guns4children Posted January 25, 2011 Author Report Posted January 25, 2011 i just did the topend when i had the head done. maybe they didnt do a good job. i had like 95 when i had the topend done and the 130 was before i even started it up. i dont know if thats why it seems low?? what should it have been with a new topend? Quote
crustydemon Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 Well part of the problem is that the rings are not seated yet but it still sounds low to me. I would say around 155 without the head work when seated. Do a few heat cycles and then ride it around a bit then check it again. You better check your squish first!!! Quote
bonerific250 Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 what kind of gauge are you using? does it have a check valve in the end of it? and you want to make sure that the reach "threading" of the the gauge is the same length as the spark plug. And are you checking the comprehsion with the engine hot or cold? you want to check it went the engine is warm the pistons will expand a little. Quote
guns4children Posted January 25, 2011 Author Report Posted January 25, 2011 this was right after we put it together so it hadnt even been ran. ill try it once it warms up but ill prob just go with a cool head and toss the stocker i didnt know anything about "sqush" or what it does but it sounds like something that might f up my motor Quote
700vflash Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 I just rebuilt mine with a stock head shaved .30 off and my compression was at 145, I had about 1 gallon of fuel through it at sea level. But also the threaded adapter for the tester was not near as long as the threads on the spark plug, so I am assuming it is a little low because of that. There are a few different factors that can affect a accurate reading. Quote
