If he was a good builder and really broke it in he should have noticed if it was to rich or to lean in my opinion it was caused by either to much pistion wall clearence or the squish was not right and the piston hit the head and rocked breaking the piston skirt.This is what happened to my 4mill cause the squish was too tight....banshee piston

It sounds like you have a ring of rust in the cylinders from the pistons sitting in one spot for so long with the spark plug holes open for moister to get in which is keeping it from making a full revolution that is why you can spin it clock wise with the stator and when you use the kickstart it moving counter clockwise take the head and cylinders off and get the cylinders honed you should be good to go after that.....

imo i would stay away from Namura I've had nothing but trouble with them you know the saying you get what you pay for...lol I like wiseco pro lite they are made different i think one is forged and the other is cast i think I know Namura will crack and come apart in your cylinder were as wiseco will usually bend instead of crack just my .02

Just to let you know they don't sell 35 pj's they are more than likely 34s if they are 35s they are pwks unless you had them bored

you should just buy a cool head and get the domes you want instead of paying a machine shop to do the stock head if you ever go a different route with the top end such as go bigger with the pistons like 65.00 you need to get the head cut for that piston size

If you changed the stator when you put the flywheel back on if you didn't tighten it with an impact the flywheel could be loose enough the shear the woodruff key (which is the key for the crank and flywheel) which would put your timing marks off it has happened to me before
