TimJ Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 Ok here it goes I can let it sit there an idol and everything is fine. I let it warm up about 5 min. When I ride for about 15 min there is oil all over my A arms ( riding down path and yes doing wheelies lol ). It is dry under the engine but from the front of the engine to the A Arms is covered in oil. Any ideas, is it time to tear the motor apart? Tim Quote
Coupelx Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 sounds like you need new orings in the pipes where they hook to the jugs Quote
cheetah10mil Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 sounds like you need new orings in the pipes where they hook to the jugs i agree with coupelx sounds like o rings you can also use hi temp silicone Quote
BigRed350x Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 O-rings around your pipes, or you have a small crack or pin-hole in your pipes somewhere and your getting the burned gas/oil from the exhaust up on your front end. Quote
tedd1 Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 Stock configuration routes the case vents up to the handle bars. Could be a crank seal causing it to puke trans oil... Quote
TimJ Posted January 21, 2011 Author Report Posted January 21, 2011 Tedd1 you were right the oil is from the vent tube for the case. How do I fix this? Anyone? Tim Quote
252wheelieking Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 Tedd1 you were right the oil is from the vent tube for the case. How do I fix this? Anyone? Tim Make sure both vent lines are not clogged. If one is clogged it will cause the crank case not to breath properly. Quote
BigRed350x Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Make sure both vent lines are not clogged. If one is clogged it will cause the crank case not to breath properly. Not true. I block the front one off on every banshee I get. Hell most aftermarket side-covers don't even have the hose there any more. You're crankcase is getting pressurized from somewhere if your pushing oil out the breathers.. Maybe bad crank seal. Do a leak-down test. Quote
tedd1 Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Ya, I block the vent at the water pump as well. On the puking vent, my first guess would be crank seal(s). X2 on the leak down. Quote
TimJ Posted January 23, 2011 Author Report Posted January 23, 2011 If it is the crank seal I just have to drain oil, remove both side covers, remove stator on left side, remove the clutch gear on right side then I should be able to remove the seals and replace them. Am i thinking correctly? Or am I going to have to break the engine down more? I am going to build me a leak down tester to chech it out but I wanted to get a heads up on how to replace them if that is it. I am pretty sure by what everyone has told me that this is the problem, but I am going to do a leak down test to make sure. Thanks to everyone for the help in advance. I hope to be running soon. Hibnecker1 Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 I just had the same problem on mine... oil everywhere coming from the breather. I thought about just doing the seals but decided to do it right and split the cases... When i did, half of the crank bearing was gone banghead So moral of the story, something may have caused that seal to go out and id put money on that crank bearing being shot Quote
robert0762 Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Had the same problem and it was the clutch side crank seal Quote
