georgie Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 (edited) Is there such a thing of over burn out? smoking the tires too long before you stage at the starting line. How long is a good enough burn out? ( asphalt drag racing ) Edited December 14, 2010 by georgie Quote
Larry's Shee Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Depends on available traction. If it's good only burn enough to clean and warm , if not get as much heat in them as possible. Quote
NYUK Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 yes you can heat the tires too much. you just do a dry hop. heat the tires till they bite. then stage. Quote
SlowerThanYou Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 Is there such a thing of over burn out? smoking the tires too long before you stage at the starting line. How long is a good enough burn out? ( asphalt drag racing ) Here's an idea! No burnout or dry hop and able to run low 6's 1/8 and low 10's 1/4 mile. We did do 3 burnouts this year out of 90+ plus runs. The sole reason was to take the glaze of the tires. BK Quote
sleeper06 Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 I drive around the water box where i can ,a couple of track i coudnt so i dry hopped it.You dont need it if your set up is rite Quote
gotta_goatsfast Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 As far as tempurature goes, I believe the drag racers shoot for a tire temp close to that of the asphalt itself. But burning out also works the tire, etching it and ridding it of the glaze previously mentioned. Some guys use a roller with fine short needles to puncture the outter most tread, and I've seen some car guys run sand paper over the tires (side to side). Does it help? Who knows, but a good set up and tire with a soft compound will make the biggest difference, along with proper tire pressure. Quote

jay shafer Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 no burn out....i go around the water box when i can....it hooks just as hard without a burnout with my American Racers Quote
SlowerThanYou Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Next time out I'll try no burn out. You have to find out what works for your set-up! I was trying to give examples on what can be done without a dry hop or burnout. BK Quote
EvilBanshee Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 The second you see smoke role on forward and stage. No need to get the tires greasey and heat the clutch up. Quote
