toddyfresh Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 So I just got this basketcase banshee. I got some ported cylinders for it and when I went to take the cylinder out of the box I dropped it. Where the sleeve extends past the jug I took a chunk out of the sleeve right I'm the middle about half the size of a dime. Is this still usable? I'm not sure if the piston travels that far down or not. Either way it pissed me off. Thanks guys. Quote

toytech Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 on a worn cylinder there is never any wear in that spot, why can't he just chamfer that and run it? the rings dont go down that far. or if it needs pistons map the ports out, resleeve that cylinder and report it? Quote
toddyfresh Posted July 12, 2010 Author Report Posted July 12, 2010 I just had it ported and bored not too long ago. Pistons newer too. Think it was20 over. I was thinking same as u but don't wanna mess up my bottom end? Quote
firebanshee Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 I have ran a cylinder like that before,i chamerd the edges and ran it.That far down the cylinder is were it supports the piston when the rod changes direction.Mine was damaged from a broken rod and was a little bigger chunk. It lasted for a long time and it never failed because of that broken piece.I would try it but,it would be best if you didn't have too.I am always tearing my motors apart so it wasn't that big of deal for me.I REALLY liked the port job on my cylinders is why i ran mine. midlifecrisis Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 Im no expert either, but in the past 6 months Ive seen my share of cylinders. I checked my 2 other sets here and Im with Firebanshee, in that the piston travels that far, but not the rings. They should be fine! Worse case scenario, couldnt he just resleeve? Certainly it would be more cost effective than a second set of cylinders! Quote
