RagunCajun Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 (edited) I am thinking pipes and porting will just raise the powerband and cause even more spin. Would just a mx or cleanup port give me more power just not make it come on later??? You can make the engine's power band hit late to the point it's a drag port which sucks balls for anything but drag racing imo. Which is why i am still on stock cylinders. I hate how a drag port feels. And yes, spinning is a big deal when it comes to the banshee world and drag racing anything. You gotta get off the line. That's why i have the tires i do. With a good port job and supporting mods, IMO you will walk your average bolt on 4 stroke. However, if you arent getting out the hole good enough, you will be playing catch up. Im not real great at driving, i just dump the clutch. Either i take off awesome or the front comes up if it hooks hard. I refuse to stretch my bike. 300' you needa get off the line like a beast. The strong point(top end) of a banshee isnt used. So set up comes more into play. And since you dont wanna a drag bike.....good luck. Edited June 12, 2010 by RagunCajun Quote
kawiking Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 I guess ill be the dick here. Sleeper drag bike. Dude thats just simply retarded. You think your having problems hooking, just wait till you start making more power. With what you have done know if you port and buy some good pipes forget it, shit gonna slid all over the place. How much you weigh? If you dont weigh shit and you get it to hook your gonna have problems keeping it down with the stock swing arm. And as for trying to pass some after market pipes painted black for stocks, thats just retard for thinking that. Only guy your gonna fool is someone who's never seen a banshee in his life. Sorry but your buddies are not gonna buy the stock bike story, unless there flat out stupid. Dude im just keeping it real. thank you.. i was wondering when someone would catch on that he said he has traction prob..... more power... less traction . also , a banshee is never goin to hook like a 4 stroke. banshee 's need to spin some to keep the rpms up... otherwise it will just bog and die... doesnt have the torque like a 4 stroke Quote
stockbeast Posted June 12, 2010 Author Report Posted June 12, 2010 thanks guys for the responses what I learned was that I shouldnt try to build my shee like a 4 poke for torque cuz the end result will still be less torque than a 4 poke so just do whats already been proven and blow by em on the big end. Thanks for letting me know so I didnt end up with a turd even though I am a dumbass you guys kept pounding me with the same responses banshee hq kicks fucking ass thanks!!!!!!!! I have to finish a couple things then I will be hitting you guys up again for some jetting help Drags started this weekend but I am not ready yet but I will post times and how many four strokers I wax as soon as it happens.............. gofast5 Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 What about some flat black paul turners. Anyone who isn't familiar with a banshee can mistake them for stockers Quote

Larry's Shee Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 You haven't mentioned what "rules" they have at the fair grounds. "IF" it stated 'stock' exhaust you would be limited to cutting them apart and gutting them , =time+$ . You're up against the wall with stock exhaust. Work on traction/set-up and practice. Look into different tires. Quote

Larry's Shee Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 (edited) Personaly have not cut one open (yet), subject was brought up month or so ago. Other poster mentioned it was somewhat popular mod at one time. they do have internal baffels plus double wall design. Once I get my son's shee up and running I'm going to cut the stockers open for shits and giggles. Just got a small wire welder for free so I'm set for re-weld. Probably lot of work for minumal gain who knows. Plus O.P. , you can bore carbs out to 28mm Edited June 16, 2010 by Larry's Shee Quote
sandman81 Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 Well pretty much what all the other members have said. Boring the carbs bigger, cant tell they have been modded, v force reeds, some good pipes. You gonna be running paddles? You don't weight much and the stock swinger with some paddle is gonna be a problem. Smilier modded banshee as what you have and what i had mentioned makes it hard for a friend of mine, who weighs the same as you, to keep the bike down, with paddles of course. Quote
camatv Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 i didnt read the whole thread so i'll just get to the point. here is my idear for a true sleeper.. vito's 10 mill vito's cylinder's 68mm bore, black painted ( flat black) stock head alky matched to the motor, alky conversion on bored stock carbs, lay the pj's on the side and hide them, timing plate, dyna, nology port for peak HP at about 8500rpm STOCK PIPES make it a low end midrange beast. hope to hell you can hold on with the stock swingarm. undercover lockup 1-5 override NEVER wash the bike. keep everything else stock including the plastic heel guards. lie to everyone and tell them its just a bone stock bike with a BOOST BOTTLE!!! run v paddles on it and the worn out ones i have in the garage. NOT new ones you will need some way to control it on the start. i'd guess about 65-70hp. but look bone stock and LOTS of mid bottom.. my dream sleeper. someday i'll build it. Quote
SLORYDER Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 Ok let me try to chime in here with some logic. OP, you can totally make your banshee WITH stock pipes A LOT faster than it is now. I guarantee you that you can port that sucker to have 50 wheel horsepower Clean up port/ open up the intakes/ add boysen reeds/ K&N filter/ some porting and you will be spanking bolt on 450's all day long guaranteed. You just have to port to the pipe; don't do much raising on the exhaust, widen it a good 3 millimeters and raise 2 or so. Square it off a little. I am about to go this route with my stock piped blaster. I can't wait to see the kids faces on their piped blasters when I smoke them. Quote
dajogejr Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 50 HP is a stretch IMO...I've seen a dyno somewhere with a 4 mil cub and stock carbs and pipes only put out 70ish. That's 70 plus ccs and a helluva lot more than a clean up port. And IMO a 50HP banshee isn't going to spank a well tuned 450 with a good rider on it. The banshee is giving up a lot of weight... You're not going to turn much HP with stock pipes only reving out to 8K... Quote
stockbeast Posted June 23, 2010 Author Report Posted June 23, 2010 (edited) all right keep this thread alive!!!!!!! Lots of great ideas. I have been working my ass off on this sleeper project. It didnt run when I got it .....here is what I am going to be running at the fair drags this weekend in the stock class...............mostly bolt ons but I had to get it all done in time for this race and I am on a $100 a week budget tools and parts and I am not very familiar with banshees and have to get on the HQ to figure out not only what to do but how to do it. LOL 99 banshee stock pipes ported stock cages w/ boyesen power reeds pro-design filter kit in the box cut stator plate to around +6 timing milled stock head .055 13 tooth sprocket amp link kenda claws 260 mains clip in the middle Does this sound close for jetting???? 27 pilot I have had this bike for a little over a month now and this is what I have done ...rebuilt the topend traced down some electrical problems, fixed the ignition problem, ported the cages, cut the stator plate, milled the head, lined up the stupid fucking amp link , tuned it in with the timing and got the jetting pretty close this shit is alot of work when you dont know what the fuck you are doing and you have to come to banshee hq and look up how to do everthing. LOL next mods: cut the airbox around the pd filter adapter bore stock carbs to 28 alchy conversion on stock carbs more timing adj plate more compression mill more off head tires othsu radials then I am also going to pipe and port and the weight thing is somewhat covered cuz I only weigh 145 and they do allow a pipe change in the stock class............so I am prolly doing this backwards but I am trying to do the cheap shit first cuz I am poor and the wife put me on a $100 a week budget......and I still havent figured out which pipes I need yet I dont know if I will need more top end hp or bottem end grunt to run with the 4 pokes and I cant port the fucking thing because I just rebuilt it with stupid fucking vitos pistons kit the ones that add port timing that are supose to "simulate a port job" If I get waxed real bad I will ditch those for some wiscos and a port job but thats a few weeks being down when you are on a $100 a week budget I will post back after the race this weekend the fair races dont show the times so I will try to have someone stopwatch me just to get an idea of the times thanks HQ for all the suggestions and info Edited June 23, 2010 by stockbeast Quote
