crazyj789 Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 Hello HQ I have a 97 banshee that I have redone. When I run 6th WOT to check my jetting it surges like it wants to go faster but cant what could be causing this? Here is the break down from top to bottom BR8ES sparkys Stock coil, CDI, and wires Cool Head with 18cc domes running 110 leaded race gas with Klotz RD50 32:1 50 over bore with vitos superstock pistons Stock Porting PT mid pipes with fatboy 2 silencers VF2's with stock intakes and cross over tube Stock carbs with TORS removed jetting (300 mains, 27.5 pilots, needle 2nd position from top) 600 - 800 above sea level temp 60-90 degrees mostly aggressive trail riding Stock airbox with pro flow K & N setup with K & N Powerlid +4 timing plate set at +4 Billet Basket with FAST heavy duty clutch brand new everything and pancake bearing The bike revs out great no bogging hits the pipes everything is great just when it hits the top of 6th gear it surges like it wants to go faster but just cant. Is it lean on the mains? I have good plug color from several plug chops. Is the clutch slipping a little? Its all brand new! Is the ignition to light? Do I need a nology coil with hot wires? I just dont know please give me a hand. Thanks Quote
J-Madd Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 Clutch slipping or lean main jet, imo. Edit: Most likely clutch. Make sure the cable is not too tight and the actuator is lined up on the case. Quote
crazyj789 Posted May 8, 2010 Author Report Posted May 8, 2010 I have the mid pipes cuz I like the power and not just top end. Never anything around here to ride all top end. I believe clutch slipping or slightly lean on the mains. Im going to check the clutch over and do more plug chops with a 310 main and see if it goes away. It just has a slight surge at WOT 6th gear. When I hold the throttle at approx 3/4 or slightly higher but not WOT it seems to clear up an GO but at WOT it has a surge. I dunno tho Quote
Valin Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 (edited) When you hold it down, does it surge, then come back on, then surge, then come back on again, etc......, or does it just die off on top end? If it is surging like I have described, I would be checking your crank seals. If it is just laying down on top, sounds like it is more than likely fuel related. Edited May 8, 2010 by Valin Quote

It hits hard on the top very very slight surge as described. Quote

RadarRacing Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 (edited) I was gonna say jetting at first but if you are tapped out in any gear and are turning as many rpms as that pipe and the porting will handle it is possible to get a funny sound after a second or so. If you hold in a gear too long after a second or so it will get rich from trying to overrev beyond the rpms the pipes timing will work with. You didn't say what speed this happens or your gearing but those pipes will probably turn 9000 rpms in any gear and then after a second or so of trying to go beyond that rpm it could start making a wierd burbling sound. Just a possibility. This would only be if you are screaming in 6th at top rpm/speed. Edited May 8, 2010 by RadarRacing Quote
