bringthepain Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 hey wats up guys. I was wondering if you guys could tell me what a timing plate does exactly? i know its a noob question lol. and is it worth the upgrade? thanks people Quote
locogato11283 Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 an adjustable timing plate allows you to advance or retard the timing of the motor. generally, most people advance the timing in addition to having motor work done to maximize horsepower gains. you can do the mod with a stock setup as well. its not going to hurt you to do it and you may see some power gains from it. i recommend the chariot performance billet timing plate... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Banshee-6061-Billet-Adjustable-Stator-Timing-Plate_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem414c6b1f09QQitemZ280454962953QQptZMotorsQ5fATVQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Quote
bholmes Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=120036 There's how one of the guys on the forum did his own from a stock timing plate. Make sure to click on the link to his photobucket and it's got pics of it. I *think* (correct me if I'm wrong guys) that Advancing the timing will beef up your bottom end and retarding it will help out the top end. Of course one comes at the sacrifice of the other. Also I'm not sure which (retarding?) but changing the timing will make it less prone to detonation if you're having problems with that. Quote

firebanshee Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 Advancing your timing +4 is a good place to start. You should notice more on bottom and rev up a little quicker. It's a good mod to do and you should not have to rejet. Quote

alf44 Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 I can send you a modified stock one for $30 and your stock timing plate. Its modded to +4 already. Ive done many of these and it really is a great start for modding. Snappier throttle response and a little more torque on the bottom end. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 Make sure you use the correct puller for the flywheel !!!!!!!!!!!!! About $12 - $15. Quote
