crustydemon Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 picked up another bike yesterday and dont care for the blue, I've got set of black plastics but the rears are not in real good shape so I was thinking about painting the blue rear black. For those of you who have done it, are you happy with it or not. Quote
quikshee Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 My bike was originally purple and yellow, I used krylon fusion spray paint. I've never had a problem with it chipping or flaking while riding, any that I've gotten were from things being dropped on it. IMO it's an easy cheap fix for an ugly set of plastics until you can get what you need. Quote

I think the one I used was called bulldog or somthin. I rattle canned my plastics last year. I put a low luster clear on for the last 3 coats, still looks good. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 I had theshee and hs brothe paint my plastcis a few years ago. It looks good. Only prblem is if you allow anything to bump the plastics the paint can crack. They don't rattle can so I can't say how well it will work, but you can have it done with quality adheisves and paints and it will be fine. Quote

laketappsbanshee Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 I used Kryon Fusion for plastic as well. I did 4 coats and it has held up well for me also. I sanded mine to scuff it a bit and it turned out pretty good for $30. Good Luck Quote

How are they holding up on the underside of the rear fenders where the rocks and sand hits? I hate to say it but Im already getting use to the blue,but I still like black better. Quote

There actually pretty good. Don't sand them too ruff them up. I learned that the hard way. Just use the adhesive. I put 3 coats on mine and wet sanded with 600-800 between each coat. Ill get u some closer up pics if u want. The only part that messed up on mine is where I spilled Brake fluid on them when fillin up my front resivoir. Quote
Doddy Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 I wouldn't spend a bunch of money on painting your plastics. I was going to go ahead and do the automotive paint thing, and then I realized that it was just going to crack and scratch no matter what I did to protect it. I went w/ the Krylon fusion and it worked awesome. It will scratch just like and paint, and then you just go ahead and bust out the spray can and touch it up. I think the Krylon Fusion is quick, cheap and for what it is it looks damn good. Quote
crustydemon Posted November 7, 2009 Author Report Posted November 7, 2009 I wont spend much money or time on it, all I have to paint is the rear plastic. I might race cut my black rears that are sagging and then try a coat of black on them to shine them up a bit before I decide weather or not to do the blue ones. I'll post some pics and you guys can tell me what you think before I do the blue ones, I kind of hate to split up a full set of matching plastics. Quote

Its specifically for plastic painting and if you have a gun or access too one it would be your best bet and look the nicest. No matter what u do its gonna scratch but if its done right it won't crack or peel. Just another FYI. Quote

Dinner Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 Mine were originally white, sanded them all down to get scuffs, marks, etc off of them and painted with Black Krylon. Sported black for a season then sanded them down again the next and painted silver with Krylon. Been holding fine for 2 seasons now Quote
