N3WT KRA1L
this site is full of dumb kids these days it seems.... engine displacement isnt everything, and niether are looks. a twin 350 vs a single cylinder 500 is a close call, the 350 TWIN is gonna rev much higher being smaller and having two little pistons. revs help the smaller 350 match a bigger displacement engine (revs and hp go hand and hand). torque is about the same as a single 350, so the 500 wins there. from what i read when you're into heavy mods the banshee wins. stock or close to stock, its the 500. i own both, both only have bolt on mods. if i had to guess id say the zilla MIGHT be a little faster, not much. so everybody here that hasnt even seen one, much less ridden one, stfu and do your homework hell yeah man finally someone who knows about engines and how hp is created! been reading through this entire post and no one's said it! ive owen a 400 cub shee a lt250r and quadzilla. ide have to say that the banshee cost more to maintain. planning on doing a lt250-500 hybrid, ill be posting pics once i start. my zilla aint that pretty and ill admit there arent that many that are. but who cares they are fun as hell to ride! Judge1
I owned a banshee and a lt 500 at the same time in my younger daysand both had their advantadges. Both bikes had the basic shit, pipe, airbox lid off, Jetted, vforce reeds, no tors blah blah..... The lt had some usable low end power but was heavy and handled like a dog. It took an experienced rider to navigate that thing. The banshee was much more rider friendly in my opinion. The 500 did jump and soak up bumps better. I thought both quads were cool looking as the honda was the bike to hate in my day. My zilla always won in a top speed race as was to be expected. Anyone with common sense will tell you there is no other feeling than a banshee going from that mid range hit to the top end pull!!!!! I still scream get some and am a 36 year old man. I forgot to mention the lt 500 was a mother fucker to start!
mailman
whats the best way to get a hold of Dr. Q? just picked up a 88 zilla for cheap and wanna build it up. heard hes the guy to turn to. You may want to think twice about contacting Dr. Q. Here is a post on a guy who had some serious issues with this guy. Q Ripoff post If you are intelligent and want the best for your LT500 then give Jerry Hall a call. His results speak loud and clear. The man has spent more time than any builder on the planet trying to get more hp/tq out of the LT500 motor. He does it on gas with no "big bore" or stroker options, either. 623-931-8132 Here is the detailed dyno report on the pipe shootout for the LT500's. mailman
ya that 90hp is very fishy. it is 10+ over the next top won, and this is on the same engine. something just doesn't add up. and IIRC they said this was on pump gas too. i am not defending Q or anyone, just saying. i know my brother has a LT hybrid right now, has the old school handmade Q design, shearer made pipe. it is a nice looking pipe. it is just super loud. but with a stock carb and a mx port, it made 68hp. The 94 HP bike is the real deal. I know the owner and have seen the bike run at the hill and on the dyno. I was also there for the pipe shootout. They did everything by the book. The Hall pipe is called #19. It has that name for obvious reasons; it is the 19th final pipe design for the LT500. This pipe has been in the development stage for over 5 years; probably closer to 10. I wish people could understand the time, effort, math, IQ, etc. that goes into a dominant 2 stroke pipe. I wish people could also understand that there is as much potential in the pipe as there is in the porting. The pipe is such a critical part of the flow/scavenging of the motor. The best part of the pipe shootout was that they had a full Q spec bike. The bike had everything that Q offers for the motor. The motor wasn't that impressive on the dyno and also performed much much better with the Hall #19 pipe. Everyone almost felt bad for Q when they saw the results for themselves. mailman
i dont doubt that it made more than the Q pipe. Q is kind of outdated and is in some trouble with some other things too. just hard to believe 90+hp on pump, it was on pump right? No, not pump fuel. It is on race gas.
