makenzie71 Posted February 23, 2009 Author Report Posted February 23, 2009 are you losing coolant? Nope...and the cooling system was dry upon start up. Smoked right away so BHG is unlikely. I really appreciate all the suggestions. Just to recap: Brought in with heavy smoke from right cylinder, failed leak down, replaced seals. Still smokes heavily from right cylinder. Biggest leads thus far: Improper seal between crank and tranny, or right crank seal is not set properly. Residual oil. Improper fuel mix. Quote
makenzie71 Posted February 23, 2009 Author Report Posted February 23, 2009 meh...tried again a moment ago...made sure the intake tracts were tight, and went ahead and snugged the exhaust and all up, and nowhere near as much smoke. I'll just flog her a bit tomorrow and see how she runs. Quote
sheerider1026 Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 yea.. if it was sucking tranny oil before, i would say that your pipes and silencers are a bit oiled up.. lol.. mite take her for a spin, keep an eye on things, and it will prolly burn all that oil out in 5 minutes or so.. check back and let us know. dragbanshee Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 I have not but my wires were labeled. I'll try it. Would it really cause a smoking issue? I just wondered if the cyls would react the same or differently to each plug wire, spark??? Quote
LS1Inferno Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 my dads bike does the same thing. ive replaced crank seal. head gasket and head (had extras) and it still does it . its not the crank seal. ill have to tear down the carbs later. but it runs fine and amazingly both plugs are identical. So i just ride it and it runs great too just smokes a lot when mashed. Quote
desertdeweller Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 I know this may sound stupid but do a plug check you may have to run leaner jetting on one side. If the leak down and everything checks out fine. The one cylinder maybe running more efficent than the other one. It could be from a variety of reasons casting flaws, rings worn more on one side, maybe tighter bore due to quality of machining, etc. Quote
makenzie71 Posted February 23, 2009 Author Report Posted February 23, 2009 Thanks guys. I'll check the plugs and see what they look like...they're about in need of replacing anyway. Quote
makenzie71 Posted February 24, 2009 Author Report Posted February 24, 2009 Yup...just residual oil. Now she smokes right from both pipes...and she does purr. Thanks for all the help! Quote
