makenzie71 Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 I haven't redone the leak down test...will be doing that in the next few days...still sick and the exhaust has aggravated my sinuses. I didn't replace top-end gaskets, but likely will at this point. I obviously expected a bit of smoke just because she's been apart and back, but the left cylinder already cleared up. What else could be the culprit? I sealed the case with high temp rtv silicone sealant...was that advisable? Anyway, all help appreciated. Quote
sheerider1026 Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 its is not recomended to use rtv on the cases.. use yamabond to seal them up.. hey istem.. is there any way that the slides are in the carbs backwards??? one side of the slides has a curve cut into the bottom of it, this cruved side is suppose to face the rear of the carb, towards the air filter.. mite want to check it out.. it can cause the sympton you are describing Quote
makenzie71 Posted February 23, 2009 Author Report Posted February 23, 2009 Slides are in correctly...already went through that once. Not always fully closing due to a buggered throttle cable, but they're in there. I also don't have any "yamabond" or a place to get it locally. Quote
sheerider1026 Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 maybe you have a bad float, ot a badle needle valve in the carb?? how long did you run it after you got it back together?? maybe it needs to be ran a little more to burn the extra oil out of it?? i have also seen silencers that get so packed full of oil, that when they get hot the bike smokes real bad, only because the oil in the silencers is burning off.. mite wanna give that a look. peak-j Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 So you have one cylinder smoking and the other not, right? You want smoke on both sides. How bad is it smoking? Better do the leakdown test and check it out. Don't run it if one side isn't smoking, if it's not smoking it's not good. Quote

Don't run it if one side isn't smoking, if it's not smoking it's not good. I have a bad float valve situation but on the other side...that's a different, easier to diagnose issue. I only ran it for a moment because there was no coolant in the engine. I'll get it out and run it a little warmer tomorrow and see if there's any change. Residual oil completely escaped me...that should have been my first assumption. Peak...it's smoking an abnormally high amount on one side. The other side has the right amount of smoke. Quote
makenzie71 Posted February 23, 2009 Author Report Posted February 23, 2009 Okay guys, just to make sure I got this down right...there's a vac line from the clutch side: where does it go? Also, there's a t-fitting that was above the carbs...one line went to the port at the rear of the case, one went to that clutch side line, and the last vents to open air in front of the engine. Really doesn't seem right that one vents. ...my manual isn't in the shop right now... Quote
sheerider1026 Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 yes those are all vents.. they are not vacum hoese.. you got it right.. Quote
dragbanshee Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 Have you tried switching plug wires to opposite cyls. ? Didn't know if that had been covered before or not. Quote
makenzie71 Posted February 23, 2009 Author Report Posted February 23, 2009 Excellent, thanks. I just wanted to make sure that there wasn't a crank feed like I've seen on some smokers. I don't remember disconnecting one, but still. Quote

locogato11283 Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 what is your fuel/oil mix and what oil? Quote
makenzie71 Posted February 23, 2009 Author Report Posted February 23, 2009 what is your fuel/oil mix and what oil? I don't know what was in the tank. IIRC this guy runs 40:1 on everything. Quote
