lambchop Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 Hy everyone new to the site, but loving it. So i got my first Shee and am really excited, but don't know that much about it. Heres what I do know: 1999 Yamaha Banshee with T5 Tommey pipes. I traded an older truck of mine site unseen. I was told that it has had a lot done to it. It is at my parents and have only seen pictures of it so far. I'm trying to arrange freight for it. It's killing me I really want to ride it. It's at my parents house in TN and I now live in Phoenix. As soon as I get this I will be looking for people in AZ to do some riding with? Anyone?? Anything I should look for. Anyway to tell if it's had good mods vs. bad mods performed. He said it has been bored, but from my past dirtbike/snowmobile experience that can mean cylinder damage. from the pictures on my phone I can see it has after market nerf bars, front bumper, and rims. I was asking 2K for my truck I feel like I got a pretty good deal, What do you guys think. Since I was 13 I always wanted one of these just always had bikes instead. Now I'm 33 and as excited as I was 20 years ago about it. From all the searching I've done, it looks like everyone is getting away from Shees and getting thumpers. That sucks. So do Shees still rule or are they getting their asses handed to em now by all these new bikes coming out. I rode a CRF450 quad a while back and wasn't that impressed. Any thought or words guys? Any thought or words guys? grats on the shee, its a nice ride, got a stock one 2 days ago, and think its really fast stock, cant wait to mod mine. yeah its a great deal imo, i got mine for $3700, and having some minor problems already with it Quote
NitroTate Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 You'll love it and welcome to the site. Banshee's still rule the roost for sure. Thumpers are definitely coming around but there's still nothing like the rush of a Banshee powerband! I'll never leave Banshees or 2-strokes for that matter. I'll own a thumper some day but not without a couple 2-strokes around. Quote
dragbanshee Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 Basically the only guys getting rid of them are the ones that know nothing about them and aren't willing to learn, just want to ride with least amount of maintenance. After you ride one, its hard to walk away from it. You will have a blast with it, guaranteed!   I have owned 4 stroke, banshee, 4 stroke, banshee, 4 stroke,4 stroke, banshee and now a rhino and a banshee, I love my banshee! It all depends on what kind of riding you want to do. With a few bolt on mods the shee can pretty much hold its own in drags and flat track, thats the only thing I want it for. Well, I do like to trail ride also but not racing through them. Quote
278 Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 You'll love it... My suggestion is set up a bank account the misses cant touch and start saving for mods because youll want more power soon lol, its an addiction. As far as them being king whats a new 4-stroke cost like 8,000? You got yours for 2,000... Put 2,000 more into the whole machine not just the motor and you'll have all your 4-poke buddies going WTF are you hiding in that engine Quote

What I can't figure out is some of these youtube videos I'm watching of guys racing shees vs 450's, is that most of these 450 are either beating them or staying right with em. The 450 I rode was quick, but I feel my cr250 was alot faster than the CRF 450 I rode. I rode my friends Shee years ago and havn't rode enything that made me tear up like that thing did. I still get a smile on my face thinking back to that first ride on one. Edited January 16, 2009 by lambchop Quote
vulvafan537240 Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 you cant go by youtube videos man. it could be a stock banshee vs a big bore stroker 450with head portwork or simply differences in rider skill in some of those vids. all i can say is just wait till you can get it shipped out west, then youll see for yourself. if yours has pipes, reeds, and k&n pods on it at least, you should own the 450s. welcome to the hq by the way and like 278 said start saving money cause theres some pretty sick shees around here. theyll make you sick! we all want to go faster. it just costs money. lambchop Posted January 16, 2009 Author Report Posted January 16, 2009 I just received a quote of $500 for shipping. I'm about to book it (my wife is going to kill me) I won't be able to sleep until that thing gets here if I don't though. Do you guys think the jetting is going to be all off with the climate change from TN humidty vs. AZ dry climate? Quote

The previous said that it has been bored out for whatever that's worth? I'm starting to think I might just take the top end down if nothing else and just re-ring it. At lest that way i will be able to inspect the heads and jugs to know if anything has been done to it for real. Thanks Quote
nigels_world Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 Do you have any idea what compression should be on a stocker? What's your elevation? Quote
Facetious Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 Sweet man, grats on your new toy. I myself am a Banshee newb as well. It is a 97 banshee that is bone stock, ridden hard and put away sopping wet. It's amazing how some people can just let things go to shit. It was actually given to me two years ago but with little kids and a demanding job, I just never got around to foolin with it. That situation has changed though and I'm glad I found this site. I haven't posted much cuz that little search link at the top right corner has pretty much answered all of my questions so far. Find it, use it, love it!! lol. These guys are awesome on here and extremely helpful. I have a lot of work ahead of me on it and I will be here daily mining for info. Cheers! Quote
AKheathen Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 wellcum, and congrats  the funny thin about thumpers, and shees, is that the faster they make the 4 stroke, the more shit that comes out to make the shee even better. i grew up with a blaster, and, too, have idolized the shee, untill i finally got one. unfortunately, when you change temps 20-30 degrees, or make big elevation changes, the jetting will be different. and, yes, do start a banshee fund. modding is addictive as hell, and so is this site Quote
lambchop Posted January 17, 2009 Author Report Posted January 17, 2009 What's your elevation? Pretty sure it's around 1100' Does elevation affect compression? I never knew that Quote
fastrthnu Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 Pretty sure it's around 1100' Does elevation affect compression? I never knew that you should check it may or may not need to be changed,. it might have been in the same elevation but jetted in the summer,. ect. at 1100` maybe a 300 main. Depends on your air induction too, if it has an air lid stil installed, off, filter type, or just plain pods. If you know more about it, some can help out. and your temperature. Im assuming its unported. Air gets thinner at higher altitudes, so runnig leaner jetting than lower alts is needed. Colder air contains a denser oxygen molecule content,. so more fuel is needed to not run lean. In heat air expands and less molecules enter needing less fuel mixture if you get my drift. Quote
