b-nasty Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 Building a 421, 4mill cub motor and I just picked up a 1-4 overrride transmission for it. Should i have went with a different trans for my setup. Bike is gong to be strictly for drag racing. any input would help. thanks Quote
jbooker82 Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 I probably woudl have when with a dunable over ride. That way just incase you back load the transmission it isnt as hard on things. Quote
gregrob Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 I have a 2-5 full override for sale. PM me if interested. Works great where I ride. Quote
flyhighprerunner Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 I kinda think that if you go with the 1-5 you have a wider range of sprockets, but if you run the same track all the time then a 2-5 will work just fine...In the 1-5 you can start out in 2nd but if it bogs off the line you can change some gearing and start in 1st. Hopefully this makes sense. Quote
dajogejr Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 1-5 duneable override is the way to go. If you only, ONLY run 300 foot sand, 2-5 is best, but....if you decide to go to pavement, or the dunes and run a 400, 500 or longer race...you'll need 5 gears.... I run 300ft 98% of the time, but...when I go to the ice, it sure is nice to have 1st gear. 1-4 will work, but for launching hard in 1st gear, it is tough due to how low the ratio is. I can get you the best deal on the net on override tranny's... I've had a 1-5 N down dunable in mine for 2 years, flawless.... Quote

J-Madd Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 YOu won't like the 1-4. Like Dave said..you have to gear it to launch in 1st so you don't run out of gear, and that just doesn't work very well. Quote
b-nasty Posted October 31, 2008 Author Report Posted October 31, 2008 I talked to some people today and they said its more than likely a 1-5 overrider becuase no body really does a 1-4. When i bought it the guy said he was selling it for his friend. I guess i will see when i get it here. Any idea on how to tell what override it is? thanks Quote

tedd1 Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I run a duneable 1-5 neutral down I got from HJR. I generally launch in 1st at the drags and ride it pretty much like a stocker in the dunes. I would highly recommend it for anyone, not just high horsepower machines. They are very durable and shift like an automatic. Quote
