This may have been covered before but I couldn't find it.

Are the cheaper K&N knockoffs as good as real k&N. I'm talking about the PODS with the box removed in this case.

I have stock carbs.

I would say as long as you have Outterwears with them there's nothing to be worried about.

outerwares are junk. they can and will clog up in dirt riding causing youre motor to not get enough air. only time i run outerwares is in the sand. otherwise, youre better off without them.

I agree. I assume he is riding sand and that's why he is putting on K&N's. If he is riding dirt I would say a better set up would be, as others have stated, pod uni's.

My main riding is sand, since this is FL, so I'm going with the sand & K&N pods side.

I'm not sure how they would perform in other people's environments, though.

Go with K&Ns and outerwears then.

Factory preoiled + slip on outerwear = ready to install, no mess.

Easy to clean too.

fine grain sand yes....

Well Oiled + Outerwear + Maintained = Not To Worried

I'd be more afraid in dune type sand than the sand we have here.

Had the uni's without the filters on my raptor and it started to suck in the fine sand. Moved to a K&N with outers and havent had a prob yet. The outers are a key in filtering... Helps keep the water off and blocks the bigger dirt and sand from entering your filter so it stays cleaner longer.

found this on the net..

Why pay $30-70 for prefilters or outerwears (air box lid covers) when there must be similar material available for a fraction of the price. I headed over to JoAnn fabrics and sure enough, there is this "black casa sheer" material that is the EXACT same stuff as the Prefilter material! However it's only about $6 per yard....and the material is doubled up. So basically you can make over 10 prefilters for about $6. I grabbed some elastic and my hot glue gun and tried to make a cover by measuring the box lid and cutting the material oversized and wrapping it around the elastic. It doesn't look perfect, but once you stretch it over the air box you can't tell the difference between mine and the $70 one.

Just use women silk socks, fold them double, been doing it for years, oil them lightly... works like nothing out there!!!

Thats what i do before i can have my mom build me an outerwear...you got to love giving them something to do!!!!
