  1. I'm using Kehin pwk 39mm because I'm used to set them up. I dont have any experience with the smartcarb/lectron stuff. As far as fuel, just tell the builder what fuel you will use. Your 97-100 ron fuel is the equivalent of the premium pump gaz (92-93) here, so that make the uccr in the 12ish range Mine was set to run Avgaz (105) , so my uccr is higher. I have 2 sets of domes, the 30cc are 178 psi kick compression and the 31cc are 168psi. I guess that 12.5 uccr will have something about 140-150psi, depends of the port timing and squish. Maybe you can look for the late RD 350 tranny, they have longer gearing iirc. Mine was done by Joe Morinali, and i have all the mods in it (pro mod) Envoyé de mon SM-S908W en utilisant Tapatalk
  2. Nope, never been discussed https://www.bansheehq.com/forums/search/?&q=Smartcarb&search_and_or=or
  3. Smart carbs vs EFI!!! I finally melted down my 600.00 kx500, so back to the Outlaw while I build the 500. The dirt bike world is really positive on the smarts. So I called apt up a few months ago thinking lose weight, less complicated, freshen up the motor and try something new. I saw a couple smart carb threads on here with quite a few guys interested and a few guys talking trash. Funny thing though, none of the trash talkers have tried the carbs on a banshee. I have ran the EFI kit Kevin Gigot built for about 4yrs now. Yes it was featured in dirt wheels, NO I did not toss the EFI kit! APT offers a money back guarantee... I figured give it a shot if I don't like it I can get my money back and still have FI! APT gave me a great deal! I went for it here is my take. EFI kit, bads really old and temperamental ms dos tuner, it does not compensate for temp or elevation, FI kit is not mass produced and it weighs more then carbs. Kevin is more then willing and capable to do upgrades (great guy).... just a long trip to get the bike to him. Now the goods absolute ability to fine tune, bike ran incredible, really no carb can compete with the adjustability of efi. Smarts, bads took longer to get then they said, had to figure out cables, didn't send the right fittings even after I showed them what it needed to fit from another thread and the 36mm carbs fit but it's tight. I read up before I ordered.... sort of expected the shipping and customer service issue's. Chadd did next day me the fittings once I called him! Hopefully it's just growing pains. Now the good from sea level to 7500 bike has ran near perfect, much simpler design, easy easy tuning and light weight. Which is better? For me so far (10 rides) the smart carbs. I rode dunes on Thursday, mountains on Friday and dunes again on Saturday. It was perfect, my bike runs like a champ. Smoked my buddies worked cr500af at our hill and left my four stroke buddies for dead in the mountains. I like the simplicity of the smart carbs and for my riding style (dunes, mountains, and mx) they work perfectly. The FI kit is a tuners dream, unfortunately it's not mass produced.... Yamaha has failed us! Thank goodness for bad ass's like Kevin Gigot and the APT guys for helping move tech along for us two strokers. Vids coming just have to do some editing!
  4. hey guys im looking for a thread on the apt smartcarb

  5. Lookin at the Smartcarb setup, I don't know how to jet or care to learn how to....anyone know anything about these for banshees? I have 34 mm flat sides currently. Bob
  6. SmartCarb? Pretty sure they didn’t work for his application. I think they might be around. Regardless. It’s 2020, if you’re still fucking around with carbs you need to crawl out of your cave. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Controlls I was doing some research on smart carbs, you should pick some 38s smarts up, and see if they make more power. They say up to 10% more power. If I wasn't starting a purchasing a business, and I had unlimited funds, I'd do it. https://technologyelevatedco.com/smartcarb/
  8. In the local bike shop today picking up some new jets, and they were telling about these new Carbs called smart Carbs. No jets, adjusts its self no tuning needed. Supposedly its suppose to better than fuel injection they said. Any one else heard these or ran these on their Banshee? http://www.powerapt.com/smartcarb.php
  9. Thanks,, yea,so far I'm only in about 680$ with just the 1 carb an cable, an this second is gonna drive it up another $8-900, with the carb, intakes an filters. Hope all works out this time around. If not I'm not too worried. I do think they'll give a refund if all is fucked. Just hope to be ready for the LSOK ride,,,, smartcarb or not.
  10. Hey, i can't wait any longer for my smartcarb to come so i am going to pick up a 38mm mikuni tm flatslide this weekend to tide me over. can some of you experts tell me where to start with the jetting. brand new engine never run and its my first banshee, 4 mil, ported stock cylinders approx. 127/200, 2 into 1 custom tube intake, vitos dual stage reeds, charriot head, 40 thou squish, 145 psi compression, +4 timing, 3000 ft elevation and -10 degree's celcius temp.
  11. Yeah, those are titties! I am blown away that guys even try to produce new billet designs. The cost involved to manufacture them is so high it just makes people bitch about marginal gains over current stuff for maximum dollar. Gotta admit, if there was something readily available I'd pay top dollar for something like the PSI carbs or the SmartCarb if I wasn't a guinea pig and didn't have to wait a damn year.
  12. Got another email. To Our Pre-Order Customers, This is an update for our SmartCarb pre-order customers on the progress of cast 38mm SmartCarb durability testing and production timeline. American Performance Technologies is pleased to announce that the in-house comprehensive durability testing phase is complete. External durability testing by riders in the field will remain ongoing as we continually look for ways to improve and refine our technology. Minor wear and durability related issues have been addressed and appropriate changes have been made to final casting and machining of 38mm cast SmartCarbs. Float bowl baffling has been markedly improved to reduce chances of fuel cavitation/bogging and new floats will minimize flooding issues and reduce part count and complexity. By taking the time necessary to complete comprehensive durability testing, we feel that we have satisfied our obligations to ensure that our product meets and exceeds the high quality expectations of our customers. Today our supplier has announced that we will not be receiving production castings on October 8 as promised. Our supplier has assured us that SmartCarb castings will begin arriving, fully machined and ready for assembly, starting October 22. APT will then begin shipping them out to pre-order customers as we build them on a first-ordered, first-received basis. As always, American Performance Technologies appreciates your patience and support. After APT receives this first run of 38mm cast carbs, we will quickly move in casting other sizes. Unfortunately, this means that there will be a considerable amount of time before we produce another run of SmartCarbs in the 38mm size. After current pre-order quantities are satisfied, we estimate that there will only be 100 cast 38s in this first run that will go into on-the-shelf inventory. APT expects that shelf stock of 38mm carbs to be depleted quickly due to high demand. If you want to get your hands on one of these remaining 38mm cast SmartCarbs, we encourage any who are interested to go to our website, www.powerapt.com, and pre-order. We will keep you up-to-date and a notification will be sent to your email once your SmartCarb has been shipped. If you have any questions or concerns, please give us a call at 1-877-372-3465. Best Regards! APT SmartCarb Team
  13. Just recieved an update earlier. Hello , We have been performing durability testing and finalizations on the 38mm Cast Carburetors. These are expected to be completely done and shipping by the end of October. The 36mm Cast SmartCarb production will follow the 38mm's completion. Below is an update from Corey: "During last week’s testing and evaluation the cast 38mm performed very well with observable HP/torque gains; and when installed on a YZ250 produced a very distinct sound. Nice. The latest billets with updated float bowl baffling performed great too with mostly flawless testing. What we are looking for is bogging in sudden g-outs and long jumps. In the case of the SC it can be caused by one of two things. Fuel being sloshed up the nozzle by float displacement or momentary loss of venting caused by a tip over valve. Admittedly this is mostly for the Endurocross/MX folks and a large percentage of riders will simply not put there bike in these conditions where it becomes an issue. However the factories are very keen to this as it has been an ongoing issue for years with float bowl carburetors and we are certainly no exception. It really is a major safety issue, as one can attest if having found yourself in a situation where you need a handful of throttle and it’s not there and you wind up on your head, face plant or worse. Liability is what keeps me awake at night and other than the fear of really hurting someone or burning down the pits at some national event I sleep pretty well. So you get my point. The fuel sloshing is easily fixed by a plate baffle with a series of small holes to dampen the oscillations and provide a tranquil area for fuel pickup. The tip over valve of course poses unique problems of its own and the reason this type of circuit hasn’t been used before. We debated leaving it out but we had to be substantially better than our competition in altitude/temp correction and fuel economy. We’re glad we stuck with it. The internal tip over valves has required us to make several changes to the depth of the valve passageway and the surface finish of the ball seat. Last week’s testing was inconclusive because we could not generate enough speed to hit the really large jumps to see if we still had an issue. So I’m sending one or two to run Red Bull Fall Classic this weekend to hopefully finish the test. Other than that your carbs are being built as we speak and all changes have been included thus far. We are just making sure we have no other issues or machining corrections to make before we release and then have a big problem not easy to correct. Nobody wants this done more than I do so I appreciate everyone’s patience. Corey" I apologize that this has been a long process, but we are so very close now! Best Regards, Liz Harvey
  14. Emailed them askin what's goin on with this and what's goin on with the smart carb.. Here's what I got back,,lol Michael, Steve Tutt forwarded your inquiry to me. Due to the nature of public transactions, we cannot comment on any corporate possibilities that you may have heard of in public forums. No need to worry about the SmartCarb. 15. To Our Pre-Order Customers, This is an update for our SmartCarb pre-order customers on the progress of the cast 36mm APT SmartCarb development. Testing and validation of 38mm Revision B pre-production castings have yielded very positive results. APT is now satisfied that the cast manufacturing process we have selected is suitable to cast SmartCarbs of the highest quality while maintaining all the excellent features that our customers have come to expect. We are now fully committed to move into a limited production run of cast SmartCarbs in the 38mm size. Now with a clear understanding of the casting process and the development of crucial relationships with vendors, we will be able to fast-track 36mm cast SmartCarb production and testing. This will greatly shorten the time necessary for pre-production testing of 36mm cast SmartCarbs. Our casting tool maker will be supplying us with a timeline for production within 30 days. At that time we will be able to announce an accurate date for the 36mm SmartCarbs release. As always these options will remain available: Upgrade to a billet SmartCarb Purchase a cast 38mm SmartCarb Wait
  16. Pulled this off of thumpertalk Here's the latest... To Our Pre-Order Customers, This is a report of the Revision A cast 38mm SmartCarb analysis as well as an update on Revision B production castings. 1st SLA process prototypes 38mm SmartCarb cast prototypes were experiencing signal loss because air was leaking past the slide, bypassing the metering rod. This was due to body/fork/slide misalignment and fitment issues. These issues lead to a loss of idle control. However high speed settings and top end power met and in some cases exceeded our expectations. Revision A Tooling Prototype cast carburetors provided sufficient data to proceed with creating a permanent mold tool for investment casting and hopes of meeting pre purchase production timelines. The carburetors produced from hard tooling were expected to exceed the quality of SLA prototypes. Revision A Analysis This week the Revision A carburetor samples were again deemed unacceptable due to distortions in the castings and misalignment issues in the slide cavity area that cause improper sealing. Assembly of the carburetor castings required excessive custom fitting, also considered unacceptable for mass production. Revision B Tooling Rev A analysis requires changes to be made for a Revision B tool. Every effort is being made to improve idle control and accurate air/fuel metering in the cast carburetors. The fork will now be pinned into the body and a “chilling block” will be used to reduce body distortion. Check valves have become a mandatory addition to the Rev B tool as well. Current Actions We will follow through with Revision B tooling and produce pre production castings to test. We are currently working with our casting supplier to make changes to the tooling. If Revision B cast SmartCarbs meet our quality standards, production 38mm cast carbs can now only be released as early as August 12, 2013. The following options for pre purchasers include: 1. Full refund, no questions asked 2. Upgrade your purchase to a billet carburetor with a $50 manufacturer rebate 3. Wait patiently for the best fuel system ever developed
  17. Ditto. I ran a single for the last 4 years. Single best mod I did for trail riding outside of some works shocks. Everyone who rode my bike couldn't believe how snappy it was and how hard it pulled. I'm only pulling it off to go efi. Otherwise I'd keep the single and pick up a cast smartcarb. My "little" 355cc motor doesn't live on the drag strip or a dyno so I could care less if I'm losing 3hp at 9500rpm (as some claim).
  18. Just read over the whole thread, I'm so glad to see someone do this with microsquirt! I've had a set of R6 throttle bodies sitting around for this project exactly. I bought them back in 2010 off fleabay for $9 and change shipped. Figured I couldn't go wrong at that price even if they ended up as a wall decoration. Life got busy and I was out of the banshee world for a few years till a month or two ago. I was seriously contemplating a Smartcarb after reading all the reviews, but considering what the last few years have taught me, I'm seriously thinking EFI as it won't be that much more than a new carb setup. Just more work obviously. I have used (but good) wideband 02's from customers vw's laying around, a good cannondale fuel pump off a buddies bike when he was chasing power problems, GM/LS electrical parts laying around like beer cans, and my bike already has a dc conversion with a battery..... Damnit. Looks like the writing is on the wall now. I think I'll start mocking things up tonight instead of working on customer projects, need a change from turbo diesels anyway. I'm sure I'll be contacting you once I get the setup together for tuning and calibration tips. I'll have to make it up your way sometime for a ride and donation of few cases of beer! BTW, that dyno graph of the pathetic 44hp is mine haha. Bike was down to 100psi of compression and had butchered cylinders that a 2 year old could've ported better. It's basically been sitting ever since, I think i took out for 2 or 3 afternoon rides in the last 3 years for the hell of it. Never realized how crappy that motor was inside till I tore it down the other week. Finally getting the love it deserves now with lots of upgrades!
  19. Dirty- rumors are that they will have a cast version in spring to summer 2013 and they are supposed to be in the 400 range. However billet does look nice, so maybe I ll still consider them. Toofast- what's your big bike? How do you think they will do on a banshee setup from your experience so far? I go from Nor Cal to Vegas to Utah to South Dakota, so I'd liked a more versatile setup, what do you think. Thanks for your insight. Nieskes- that's not bein a dick, it's a legit question. This is my second 2 stroke. Honestly just got back into ATV s last year and haven't had one since I was about 14 (17 years ago), and that was a kx 125, and I only really rode one place in Utah, so jetting was not really necessary. With my Banshee I ride in many locations and had a lot of money put into it while I was in Kuwait, I don't want to hurt the motor by being too lean, and its a viable concern because of my lack of experience. So what I do is pay someone to jet the thing for me. While I wait for that to be done I ride my Polaris Predator. Hence the reason I have looked into items like the smartcarb. Thanks all for your replies, any more info or thoughts would be helpful and appreciated. Bob
