  1. Raise your needles to the 4th clip from the blunt end, turn the air screws in to .5 turn from seated....order some pilots..30's....This should help out a lot, once you get the 30 pilots, then readjust the air screws for throttle response....It must start really hard w/ stock pilots...It did for me when I ran pc pipes...the larger pilots will help that a lot....
  2. Well put it this way.....you have 3 large ranges of carb calibration....Idle, WOT, and everything in between......If one of those ranges isn't right, then it'll cause hesitation and bog....If the pilots or idle range is running rich or lean, then when you go into another range, it takes a second for the air/ fuel to change over to a different mixture that the motor likes better.....thats where your hesitation comes from....If the pilots are perfect and mains are perfect, and the needles aren't, then again, you'll have a hesitation when coming from 1/4-3/4 to wot.....so you can see that not only mains are important, but everything works together...All 3 ranges must be perfect to get great response...This takes hours, but well worth the hours of great riding after..... How often are you totally off or totally full throttle??? 20%?? The other 80% is in the needle range, so now you see why the needles make such a huge difference...Next time you ride, think about how far the throttle is being pushed, you'll be amazed how you hardly ever open it up fully.....
  3. Start rich and work down...Too lean and BOOM.....
  4. Try both. I'd start w/ 175 mains and 48 pilots for the 34's.....Go up a couple of sizes for the stock carbs...
  5. Jet it for the lid off, you'll be a little rich w/ it on, but at least you won't be lean w/o it...
  6. I'm leaving Sunday afternoon for Cali to ride in the dunes....wanna go???
  7. Its hard to just put in jets according to someone else, they could still be off and different areas will also affect jetting..these are only baselines and you still have to fine tune it...
  8. I'm running 300 mains, needle in the 5th clip, stock pilots, K&n no lid....0 elevation and temp range of 40-80 degrees....I'd do a plug chop, you might be a little lean on the mains..make sure you run it wide open in 6th gear before you pull the plugs...
  9. I'd run 280 mains w/ the lid on and 300 mains w/ the lid off, stock pilots, needles in the 4th or 5th clip from the blunt end...try both and decide...the reason one smokes more than the other is because your carbs aren't in sync anymore....you should sync your carbs after you pull them apart..
  10. Raise the needles one more notch, might take out some more......
  11. Keep the stock pilots in there for now, run the 280's w/ the lid on and snorkel removed, raise the needles to the 4th clip from the blunt end.....If you get some 290-300 mains, then you can run w/o the lid or modify it...
  12. Cut the last 1.5" off the end of the lid so you stilll have all four clips...Works just as well as no lid and keeps the mud from getting on top of the filter..
  13. Are you even getting spark?? Check the plugs and not the headlights, two separate circuits...
  14. Ptr mids have the most low end and midrange w/ great top end for twin pipes....
  15. Make sure your slides are all the way down and the throttle isn't hangin up a little...
  16. ???? I run mine in the 5th notch from the blunt end......I have no problems w/ jetting..... You just have to find the best combo for your bike....
  17. Best pipes I've owned for my type of riding.....Every pipe has its purpose, and PT's have my vote....
  18. Try a larger pilot and go from there. Jetting is trial and error, find what YOUR shee likes....let us know how you make out...sounds like your almost there....
  19. I'd guess around 300-310 mains, needle at 5th clip from the blunt end, stock pilots or 27.5........
  20. Powder coating does work if you use the high temp powdercoat....I had the option of either 400 degrees w/ any color or 1200 degrees w/ black only.....I did mine w/ silver 400 degree and it peeled by the cylinders, but held up in the rest of the pipe....The 1200 degree would hold up w/ no problem...
  21. Pipes are the most important mods for putting the power where you want it I have an incredible amount of low end and love it...still pulls hard on top, but low end to go w/ it....The 2 best mods are pipes and heads for low end.....
  22. Its either you needles or pilots. when you back off, your loading up on either the pilot circuit or needles.....Try dropping the needles one clip and go from there.....
  23. I agree w/ Holyman....I'd also check to see what size pilots you have...
  24. Depends on mods......some pipes like a richer needle and others like to be leaner. Depends on where the power is designed for in the pipes. Also different reeds will make it run richer and about = to 1 clip position....thats why a lot of people will say how much better the reeds were, but in actuality, if they would have just moved the needles, they would have got the same results and saved $200..
  25. I'd say you culprit is the needles...move them to the 4th clip from the blunt end...also try adjusting the air screws, that'll help a lot too. most likely they will like to be at .5-1 turn out from seated...you should notice a huge difference.
