  1. I've recently done a new motor install. I painted my frame and forgot to sand the areas where the motor makes contact with the frame. Now I'm getting weak spark. Whats the best way to ground the motor to the frame? I don't wanna loosen the wrong nut and get leaks.
  2. The stator i installed worked on my 87 motor. Spark is only sometime. Like every other kick but sometimes on every kick. Carb slides are bottoming out. Reeds are good. I cleaned the pilot jets. I even tried spraying carb cleaner on my filters to get it to start. Nothing yet. Have you ever heard of anyone running a separate ground wire from the motor to the chassis? Where would be a good place to do it? Thanks
  3. So you think it may be just a bad ground? It sucks cause I don't have any spare electrical parts to swap in. I do have the stator that came with the motor but it has a different connector end. I would have to hard wire. Both stators have the same resistance. I think Maybe I'll swap out the flywheel today from my 87 motor since I'm using the stator from my 87 motor. What do you think it may be?
  4. I've had the key out to swap the stator. It looked fine. I had to take the stator from my old motor and mount it in the new motor because of the wiring harness. I left the flywheel tho. Would it be a cdi going bad or a bad coil? They don't usually work half ass tho...
  5. I have cut the wire back ½". How do you replace the wire? It's attached to the coil. Both caps metered at around 5k ohm
  6. I had brand new plugs in at the time. Pulled then out and gave it a few kicks. Dried the plugs off and tried to start again. Still nothing! My plugs only seem to have a weak spark. And they don't spark everytime. Where is a good place to run a piece of wire to ground the case to the chassis?
  7. Okay i have spark now. I had to take the wiring harness apart and re-wire it. It had a bunch ob butt splices i got rid of and soldered. Now my problem is it won't start. I've been kicking it over for the past 2 hours and nothing. Flooded it for a bit. Any ideas. I will probably try and pul it behind my truck if i have to. The only problem with that is a live in the city. lol.
  8. Ive done continuity tests on both switches. They're good. I don't see anywhere to ground the coil. Is there supposed to be three wires off the coil? Its got a black wire that runs into the harness. Its taped up pretty good. Is that the ground for the coil? Where does that ground at?
  9. Do you think the cdi failed due to the rod bearing giving out? The right jug on the older motor had pieces of bearing welded to it.
  10. I adjusted the air gap. It was way too big. Could have fit 3 cards in. But I still have no spark! Any other suggestions?
  11. How do I measure that. The gap is so small. I've got the cover off. I measure 3 volts on the yellow and black wires from the stator when I kick it over. Does this sound right
  12. Sorry I'm new to the site. Just thought if I had it under two categories I'd get more help. So I ran a ground wire from my frame to the engine. Still no spark. Is there a way to test for voltage from the stator? I have the stator that came with the motor but I would have to hard wire it
  13. oday, 05:52 PM I own a 1987 Banshee. The bottom end rod bearing gave out on me so I decided to just buy a complete motor, something newer. I got a motor from a 2005 Shee and slapped it in the frame. I noticed the stator harness was different so I swapped the stator from my 87 motor. Put oil, anti-freeze, and fuel in and kicked the shit out of it. Pullled a plug and found I was getting no spark. Tested the stator and got all the rights resistances. Tested the coil and got .6 ohms on the primary side and 5.6k ohms on the secondary(plug cap to plug cap). I have tested the voltage out of the stator and i get around 3 volts between the yellow and black wire when i kick it over. Do you think its the CDI box at this point. I don't have a spare to test with and don't want to buy a new one if thats not the reason. Also when i had the motor out I spray painted the frame but didn't take any of the components off, just tapped them. I don't know what to do next. Any suggestions? Thanks. By the way the Tors has been removed
  14. Where is the engine grounded to the chassis? I may need to take the engine bolts out and sand the mounts down? Ive just tested the ignition switch and it's good. I'll check the kill switch next. How to I check the gap?
