how do i fix this, never seen one break like this
slothman replied to Burt Reynolds's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
holy balls batman ! -
^^I agree Why get bigger carbs when you don't have to? Just clean this sh1t out of those carbs, and get some 270-310 jets for the pipes.
-
you need to figure out what caused the failure in the first place....or the rebuilt motor will just pop again...
-
Compression is too low, time for a rebuild
-
This is definitely a no-fuel issue. Either one of the jets is plugged up, or one of the hoses is swapped. I would take apart the carbs and inspect every nook and cranny. Tripple check all of your work, and take your time. It's definitely not getting fuel from the carbs causing a lean condition. Are you installing brand new jets, or used ones ?

I am in the same boat. Best thing to do, as mentioned, is to take it to a reputable machine shop so they can mic it and tell you the current bore size. If the jug walls are "clean enough" you might get away with just a hone and get the 64.5 Wiseco prolite pistons. If the machine shop recommends a bore, you would go the next size up. So take it to a shop, or send it to one of the forum vendors (such as F.A.S.T) and they will take care of you. For the jet size, every motor is going to be different. This is mainly do to factors such as elevation, outside temperature, and engine mods like air intakes or exhaust pipes. Elevation plays a huge factor, because the higher up you are, the LESS fuel you need (meaning smaller jets). There is a thread on this forum where people have posted their current setup with elevation, mods, and jet sizes. You can find someone that lives around the same elevation as you do, and try those jet numbers. But basically it's trial and error. There is a test called "the plug chop" which will tell you if you are running lean or rich. It is definitely better to run rich versus lean. A lean motor will cause detonation, which will fry your pistons fairly quickly. For this reason ALWAYS run premium 91 octane. I would recommend buying a few jet sizes, ranging from 280-310 for the main jets, and 27.5 on the pilot. Start rich with the larger jets, and work your way down. Hopefully this helps you out a little, keep reading this forum, and you will learn very quickly (as I have) ! Also- be sure to DL the service manual - just do a search in the search bar and you will find it !

Left cylinder doesn't fire below 3/8 throttle
slothman replied to TWILES's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
if it's running rich from the pilots the plugs will be pretty black/oily. -

good or bad pistons for top end rebuild with 4mm stroker crank
slothman replied to LawDog's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
most people go with Wiseco because they are known for quality forged pistons that last -
New top end break in questions
slothman replied to 06bluebanshee's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I would let it warm up to operating temp, ride it around for 10-15 minutes but do not go WOT. Then let it cool down, re-torque the bolts, and you'll be good to go! -
Thought I was buying an O'Ring Chain but got this
slothman replied to Poolman's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
anything under $100 for a chain is a "good deal" lol -
used pipes from ebay..... lol
-
go ahead and buy this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Banshee-RZ-350-CHEETAH-CUB-SUPER-CUB-4mil-421CC-BIG-BORE-ENGINE-STROKER-MOTOR-/120868971813?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c245a2525&vxp=mtr Your motor prolly has tons of metal at the bottom end....I wouldn't even touch it

D.I.D makes some good shit. I would keep that chain. Run the piss out of it !! -
sweet mother of gawd ....those are some huge chunks of metal !
-
Ya that would make sense because the mufflers are bills. Is there any stamping on the bills pipes ? Mine are still in the mail.
-
could very well be Bill's pipes, I know for a fact the mufflers are Bill's because they have a plate label on them.
-
I know it will be tough finding the correct air/fuel ratio and the correct jetting, but in a nut shell, exactly how will I KNOW the jetting is fine ? I would rather run rich than run lean and blow the motor.
-
From what I have read the Fat Bastards are made by Shearer and sold by Vito...but I don't think Vito sells them anymore. I should get the pipes tomorrow...I'm going to polish them up and see if I can find a stamp on them. What jetting would be a good start for : those pipes, bill's mufflers, K&N filter inside closed box, .020 bored over, 300-500 elevation ?
-
I bought some pipes with Bill's mufflers .... seller stated he didn't know the brand of pipe. Any guesses ?
-
Got the jugs checked out- they were @ 64mm- I'm going to have it bored .020 over with 64.5 Wiseco Prolites. I'm going to pull the carbs and check out the jets. The p/o had a k&n filter installed with some pipes (which I don't have) so I'm wondering if he leaned it out too much causing the low compression/worn motor. What carb rebuild kits do you guys recommend ? Also, should I get some aftermarket reeds? Do the reeds really make a difference?
-
Spoke with Larry at Fireball Racing (central CA sponsor) and he seems like a cool guy. He made a valid point: If the exhaust side has in fact been ported and the head is stock, the compression will be lower. Which might be giving me 80 psi in each cylinder. I'm going to have him look at the jugs today to measure them.
-
Well, I'd rather have forged Wiseco pistons rather than cast shitty ones lol I'm just trying to figure out why she had low compression.....pistons don't look too bad, cylinder walls look pretty clean...rings look ok ?
-
Ya I actually watched your video earlier today. Looks we are in the same boat lol. Tomorrow I will scrub off the black carbon from the pistons and see if I can find the mfg and piston type. I'll be calling around my area to see what reputable shops work on banshee jugs.
