  1. did you have it pinned in 6th? lol
  2. be careful with advanced timing...too much and the motor could pop REAL fast. Keep it at +3 to +4 degrees, and run the highest octane you can from the pump (not shitty cheap gas either). Listen for pinging/detonation. Check your plugs too for signs of detonation.
  3. So I guess it's a gamble.... just like anything else. But I might as well pull the crank, since my engine is half apart right now anyway.
  4. Heres the thing: I'm not porting the cylinder. Just .020 over, wiseco pistons, Bill's pipes, stock timing, stock reeds.....do I REALLY need to weld the crank ?
  5. Sorry to interupt .... But right now my jugs are off and are getting bored....how hard would it be to pull the crank real quick, and have it welded ? Yes I do have the service manual lol ...
  6. It'll run on 110 psi, but most people rebuild at that point. Could be OK....if he's at a high elevation....which would cause lower compression
  7. What is the compression right now, with the new top end ?
  8. Then he needs to sell the quad lol.....cause it won't be cheap to fix !
  9. lol.....some people have no brains
  10. Noob question: instead of welding the crank, would it be wiser to buy a stronger aftermarket high HP crank? How much power is the STOCK crank good for, if it is welded ?
  11. Do you ride at Pismo ? I think you might be OK with 280 main and 25 pilot @ sea level, but each quad is different. Have you done a plug chop yet? How do the plugs look? From the jetting thread: "In a lean condition the engine will surge and sometimes ping under acceleration. The engine will also be "cold-blooded" (hard to start and keep running) but will run better when hot. The spark plug will look bone white or burned in extreme cases. The engine may spit back or sneeze through the carburetor once in awhile too.. If the engine is running rich the throttle response will be fuzzy and not too quick. The engine will burble, miss and blow black smoke. It will start easy but will run funny when fully warmed up. The plug will be dark, wet or fouled (possible all three!)."
  12. Hopefully no metal dropped into the lower part of the engine. Time to split the case and inspect EVERYTHING.
  13. Did you do a compression test AFTER the top end rebuild ? Still seems like it's not getting enough fuel, creating a lean condition
  14. By modified I meant the cut of the piston that vito makes with the Wiseco piston. 8 HP would be a good gain, but I would like to see some dyno sheets to prove it
  15. maybe this will help:
  16. I just ordered the Wiseco Prolites, not sure if the Vito's would ACTUALLY provide more power do to the modified Wiseco piston???

  18. pull the plugs to see if it's lean or rich.
  19. thnx loco
  20. Take the jugs to a machine shop to have it mic'd, then you will know what size piston kit to buy. You can find Wiseco piston kits complete on Ebay for around $200....included pistons, gaskets, rings, everything......stick with Wiseco, they make really good forged pistons
  21. omg brand new never ridden? It's worth 3500 all day long....and if they are smart they will take that offer...
  22. Do a compression test first. I wish I had.
  23. I'm looking to buy new 10x5 rims 3+2 offset....my no0b question: will 21x7x10 tires fit those 10x5 rims? I'm asking because the rims I have now are 10x6... Thanks !
  24. I would say 5-7 WHP ...decent amount of power gain for a quad
