  1. If the head is mangled that bad id just buy a nice used stock head and be done with it. they are cheap and lots of them around heck i have one i just took of my bike if your interested. a leaking head gasket could also be a cause of low compression id get a different head or machine your old one then run a compression test again and also a leakdown just to make sure you weren't losing compression due to a blown gasket. if they come back the same then i would look into rebuilding your top end. What condition are your cylinder walls and piston rings in. any pics? some times a quik look at the obvious damage will tell you enough. good luck with your bike.
  2. I think at sea lvl on a fresh stock top end you should be around 125 - 130psi. So seeing how your topend isn't new I'd say your fine. I ride at 5,000+ ft and a new stock topend up here is only around 100psi new. So I would just ride it and enjoy it maybe play with your jetting and get it really dialed in. Besides if you hang around on this forum it won't be long before you want more power and tear it down for port work and other mods anyways. So ride it and enjoy it.
  3. I've talked personally with several of the site sponsors that offer porting and they are all great. awsome customer service and they take the time to answer some questions for me. Now that being said Kevin at HJR seemed the one that stood out for me so once I stop staring at jared's (BigRed350x) drag bike and cheetah and actually get something done with my build Kevin will be the guy that i will go with Just down to earth and quality work.

  13. Wow tough call. I grew up with both of those bikes around and I think you would be fine with either of them. I've ridden both on the sand and the dirt and I do agree stock to stock i feel like the 250r handles better on the dirt and track riding, but the banshees are a LEGEND in the sand and will always be the kings there in my opinion. In my opinion both bikes are awsome but if you are going to have to buy alot of parts already for the 250 and the banshee is ready to go id buy the banshee and and at least you would know what its been through and there might not be any of those unpleasent after purchase surprises. I was in the same boat you are looking at 250r's and banshees and I settled on a pair of banshees and I have never regreted the decision. Good luck with the Purchase

Good thread. i was wondering myself what it was like i see pictures of the dunes and they look awesome but then i watch all these riding videos from there and it looks like a complete zoo. it s nice to hear its not that way out there all the time. id love to go but have always been deterred by the opions that these riding moves have put in my head.

  17. I bet we can make something happen. i have faith. you know im going for sure we just need to pick a weekend and get Tylers backing and i see a pretty cool event going. Heck if we could even get ten people to go that would be awesome. that's more than the total people at the dunes on a given weekend lol.
  18. I won't make it this year but believe it or not I grew up riding there! Maybe next year though who knows. I haven't ridden on that sand in 15 years. Snake hunt was always a fun time when I was growing up but all I here from my friends down there is that the park has changed alot and its not has much fun has it used to be but heck id sure love to go down and ride those trails again they were a blast has a kid.
  19. It's rare these days to find a forum with so many nice people willing to help a person out. I've only been on this forum for a few weeks but I have definately learned alot and even got to meet a fellow member and Banshee rider who is willing to share his knowledge and exsperice to help me in my build. So keep the good posts coming and thanks to all you vetrans for helping us noobs out! I hope to meet up with more of you this summer out on the dunes in Wyoming, Colorado, and Idaho.
  20. I'm gonna be doing the same thing on my frame soon. I'm curios to see how much wieght i will lose getting rid of all the brackets and such that I don't need.
