  1. That whole bio-deisel needs refineries business is crap. I just saw a month ago on TV there is a kit you can buy to make it in your garage and it only costs about a buck a gallon. The only by-products are a little bit of french fry bits and glycerene that is so pure you can make soap out of it. The other thing is you can run straight corn oil in a deisel as well. You just need to add a heater to preheat the oil to a certain temp to allow combustion. You can buy corn oil in 1 quart bottles at Aldi for 1.60. That is a completely sanitary bottle in a bottling plant packaged and shipped to a retailer. There is no way that corn oil is not already competative with fossil fuels. And I'll also bet that by next spring there would be enough corn, soy, peanut, acorn, olive, rape seed (canola) to supply the need of the deisel market in this country many times over. In fact it would probably compete very actively with the drug market in warmer climates since it would be a sanctioned industry that would not harm the environment. And of course there's always ethanol/alcohol. BTW thanks for the votes guys... but you won't see me running for any office. It goes against everything I stand for.
  2. Isn't that what they are/were doing in Iraq? Killing looting etc? It seems the US government didn't have any problems sending all the weapons, supplies, and young healthy men and women to stop it over there. And wasn't one of the excuses "we're doing it for the people who have suffered so long and for the women who couldn't wear what they wanted and who couldn't even vote". I've got to say that it sure seems that chasing down Saddam and not finding Bin Laden is more important than our own people who haven't eaten in days and are wading thru their own toilet water. How civilized is that? I want you guys who don't undrstand the shootings to put yourself in the peoples shoes who are down there. These are in fact people just like you. I want you to walk away from everything you own, starve yourself for 3 days and drag around your injured wife or kids. All you have is your gun, which you have been told from childhood is the one thing that will get you out of any tuff situation and hunger driven rage. I'm telling you right now, if I miss a couple meals in a row, I don't just get upset, I get enraged. It's a sugar thing or whatever. If I didn't eat for days, even I would be wanting to take the law into my own hands and if my wife was injured or dead, I would have nothing to live for. It would be ON if you know what I mean. Just out of curiosity... Did these hurricane impacted states vote for Bush? I wonder how they feel about hanging chads right now. As was seen in the tsunami, if these people don't get out and get fed, the deaths that have been seen from the waves will be nothing compared to the deaths from disease and illness and deprivation. And this WILL effect the entire economy of this country AND the world. Since we have set ourselves up as the consumers that buy the TV and other crap from the rest of the world, when our extra money gets poured in the gas tank {I'm sure people will even be using their credit cards to finance gas just so they can keep their jobs} the world is going to start hurting. What makes this worse than 911 is that the actual fuel delivery has been impacted and it's not just panic. I predict that Bush will crack out his "just go shopping" speach he used after 911 but I also suspect that the majority of the people in this country are already tired of that song and dance. Disasters like this are what the government is supposed to plan for. Again it looks like it was caught with it's pants down.
  3. The blaster with this piston in it ran great. The guy that I bought it from never knew the entire skirt broke off and the crown of the piston looked great
  4. I was just curious if anyone has accurate figures on how much the war is costing per day.
  5. Yeah not fully sealed, that would be a disaster. Just single seal and have the seal on the side where the existing "seal" is. Might help it do it's job alot better. Anyway... does anyone have a crank for sale, seems I need one about now
  6. I stand corrected. And to prove how wrong I was here's a pic of the "seal" between the 2 cylinders. It is cast aluminum or pot metal and it simply has grooves in it. I guess the turbulence around these grooves slows things down more than just having a smoothe bushing in between. I really wonder why there is not a seal in there. Wouldn't it give better flow into the cylinder if this was able to be completely pressurized? Although from a maintenance standpoint, if you had one go bad, it would be really pricey to fix. But then again if it leaks a little over time so what. It leaks as it is right now from the factory. What if you ran a single seal bearing and you had the seals face the center? That would probably work pretty well. I don't know... just thinking out loud.
  7. That's all wrapped up in a neat little package of glorious capitolism. It's easy to say don't buy gas but if you have to go to work, you HAVE to buy gas. If you want to eat, you will HAVE to pay for the shipping which is part of the cost. So fuel is one of the few things that has an effect on EVERY aspect of life. It's not saying go without eating lobster
  8. Just like those guys that live in the mountains surrounded by pine trees. Every year the woods burn and every year there's some guy with a hose trying to hold back the flames. They should just sell their million dollar crib and move to a nice concrete highrise.
  9. How is that possible? When the piston goes down it is supposed to push the gas mix up to the top of the piston. The area is pressurized. If you lose the pressure from side to side when does it come back up? And what is this???
  10. I'm just trying to think outside of the "white boy on high ground in the suburbs" box and wondered what I would do if I was poor with no insurance and lived in a crime ridden area. It might be tempting to stay since there is a chance the hurricane would bypass my area. If I evacuated before it got really bad, I might reason with myself that every drug addict and thief would be in my house stealing everything before I even got to the end of the block. If I evacuate my sick aunt, my 6 kids and my old lady who is bustin' her butt working at the dollar store, 200 miles away to "safe" ground and the storm doesn't hit, how am I going to afford to get back or even how am I going to scrape up the money to leave town. If I'm 200 miles away and the storm doesn't hit, am I going to be able to miss work at my employer? Where am I going to stay when I'm away? All my family and friends live in N-O? If the storm hits, I may be able to get some help from the feds. If it doesn't hit I may lose my job and all of my belongings because I tried to be safe. It sucks to be poor, uneducated, and below sea level. I'm glad I only have to drive 15 minutes to the office and not 1+ hours sitting in traffic throwing hands full of dollar bills out in the street. N-O should NEVER have been allowed to be developed the way it was. Federal engineers have known for decades that the situation was ripe for disaster. Now the disaster has come. Politicians around here have allowed homes to built near the river. About 10 years ago the river flooded and ruined millions of dollars in homes. The politicians said "It's a once in 100 years flood" and allowed homes to be rebuilt and new homes to be added. A couple years ago it flooded just the same and even more millions were wasted. In fact the flood was even worse. They even allowed a church to build a multimillion dollar addition on the flood plane. Now they want to tear everything down {not the church because the politicians apparently go there } and put the businesses out. These businesses were strugling as it is. But they went thru all the work of restoring their properties and now they want to shove them out and tear it down. So much of this could have been avoided if people would have been smarter. #1 offer these poor folks a flat fee for their houses {by the looks of alot of 'em they should have gone cheap} #2 block ALL future building in thses dangerous areas. Not even mansions for the politicians. #3 turn the area into usable public space. Of course an ATV park and fishing ponds and walking trails and nature areas would be awesome {mostly ATV trails } #4 develop safer areas for residences which will have a much higher value because the city would mostly be a park and require new structures to be hurricane resistant so people can be safer. But now that there is no tax base, no income, and no residences, and no residents, the only money that will be spent there will be from insurers {most of that money is sucked up by the contractors} and the government {most of that money is sucked up by the politicians and their preferred contractors}. As far as I can tell, New Orleans is the modern equivalent of Atlantis.
  11. I've got some beatdown plastics. Send me an email and I'll let you know what I've got. I know I have some rear Maier's and some other stuff laying around.
  12. Holyman

    10" rims

Send me an email... IHRbearings@peoplepc.com You want the standard rear pattern and not the large pattern right?
  13. That's great info but it doesn't test if the crank seal is bad between jugs. In your case, you would have to pull off the crossover tube and plug it and run the gauge in the exhaust. Great pics... I'm glad someone finally put some up!
  14. The station that was $2.79 yesterday is $3.39 today. Why don't they just run some ships to the upper east coast where the "pipeline" ends and fill up the pipe from the opposite side. This isn't really brain surgery here.
  15. noo fones iz onlee 5 buks. innee wun thit wrks 2 jobz nose thaht. It should make any difference to her if youpost her info on the web. Her phone doesn't work and they never answer the door anyway. It seems they throw out all the mail too. Ask her for the persons name she spoke to at the post office, what the claim number is and send you a pic of the receipt for ANY of the times she said it was shipped. These are lies and now that he lost his backbone, he is waving his girlfiend in front of you hoping you'll let it go 'cause you're dealing with a girl.
  16. As a former homeowners insurance claims rep, I have to agree with Lee and the other folks who said that most of this crap is never going to work or is straight up dangerous. The only things that will not be damaged by the water is the only stuff worth taking to begin with. And that really comes down to jewelry. Pretty much EVERYTHING else is going to be destroyed by the water or contaminated. I would never condone stealing but most of the stuff that is being hauled away is going to end up in a landfill anyway. They might as well have these idiots who are going to risk their lives go in and help clean up. The only thing worth protecting is currency and jewelry and ofcourse the stuff that never got wet. Anything else touched by the water is history... especially if it's insured. I've seen people who get all emotional about their belongings after a flood and it's really sad. They want to make someone pay {suffer} for their loss. When even if they are un-insured, the ONLY things they should salvage are canned goods, bottled water, sealed medications and DRY clothes and bleach or chlorine. And after that, wait for the dozers and pray that some government agency will offer some money for the loss. All you accomplish by wading thru the sewage, chemicals and rotting matter is making yourself sick, more open to injury and exhausted. And if any of you guys are out of work and know how to do construction estimates and can handle eating prison food and working in HEAT and stench, go to your nearest major insurance claims center and ask how to apply for "storm" or "CAT" duty. The money is OUTSTANDING but you work 24-24. There will also be catastrophy companies already en-route to contract with the insurance companies. You can easily make thousands of dollars a week with per-diem expenses paid and bonuses. Some of the larger companies are... Inrecon Paul Davis Systems Service Master Servpro and there are others. Come to think of it, it will be alot like going to Iraq but the pay will be MUCH better.
  17. I've got an idea... why don't the folks that said superchicken was a "standup guy" pay MXdan his money and then go get the money back from him. MX was accused of not being patient and on top of that was accused of starting something when really all he wanted was his stuff or his money back. That's not too much to ask. In fact I think MX would have been happy {like most of us} if there was just some simple communication. But the chicken has flown the coop and all MX gets told after multiple hangups is that "the check is in the mail". That trick is as old as the human race. I would say that if Minkia, NYUK, BENBB, ChapmanMD, Wayfst, CEJ, Sredish and the dozens of other guys and girls I've dealt with and who are REALLY standup folks were not sending this guy his parts, then I would have no problem going to their house and finding out what the scoop is. Hey if superchicken is going thru some money problems, then so be it. If I had the money, I would cover the guys I've dealt with just so their GOOD name doesn't get trashed. But for a guy who is said to be "stand up" but who can only come out of the closet long enough to say the parts are in the mail, is bogus. And this kid, who is just trying to come to the HQ to get help where there is no back stabbing and decent folks who give real solid advice without all the petty juvenile crap on BTraxx and ATVconnection, is getting ripped by a chicken. MX... I say the guy has had his chance to come forward and make it right. It's time for deep fried chicken
  18. I am looking to convert the banshee to a trike and wanted a 22 inch or so tire for the rear. As it turns out, I think I may opt for a 325/30-18 which is about 26" tall and 13 inches wide. We'll see
  19. I just got the shock of my life... $3.31 for 87 {low grade} in Chicago suburbs. This is either massive price gouging, panic, or the beginning of the end of the US economy. The only plus side to this is with a failing economy the mortgage interest rates should fall drastically and I will be able to make some money finally.
  20. What I can't understand is WHY the prices are sooo high. The US has control of the middle east, got Texas and Alaska and Venezuela and Russia that all have millions of gallons of oil and now because a storm wipes out New Orleans {I'm not minimizing the tragedy there} all of a sudden prices have to get higher. I never knew that New Orleans was such a major oil shipping hub that it would cripple the supply of oil. This is plain ol' stupid. I have even been thinking of buying a deisel and running it on corn oil or biodeisel or something. Definitely looking into getting a knock around streetbike that I don't care if it gets trashed. Just to save $$$ on fuel.
  21. Showing your clenched fist in the pic was a nice touch. Really conveys the emotions behind it all. I'm sure on some level we can all relate.
  22. OK redlined... I see you like to argue a point. So do I. What you didn't factor in is the odds of debris in the crank causing damage to the individual engine and not the overall picture for everyone. The engine is not designed to run with the debris in there so unless there is NO debris in there, there is a greater than 50% chance of future engine failure caused by debris. On the other hand if it takes 6 years for a good engine in good condition to fail and it costs $200 extra to rebuild the crank to get 6 more years out of the engine, it would take 72 years to add up to the figure you came up with. (12 rebuilds times 6 years between). I'd like to think that this guy will live to be in his 90's and still riding but it's unlikely. Consider too his previous inexperience. He ran at low compression beyond the serviceable life of the parts. Now he knows better and can head off these melt downs in the future. So if you add in a single cost of $200 extra now and plan on never having that failure again over the next 12 rebuilds, he is only spending $16.67 per rebuild for peace of mind for the next 72 years. I'd say that's not a bad investment. PS NEVER use a shopvac for flammable liquids!!!
  23. $2.89 in the Chicago suburbs for regular. Lee's gonna have to start goped HQ pretty soon.
  24. I've got a killer Craftsman riding mower. Has all terrain tires, extra padded seat, awesome low end and electric start and reverse. It's all the thumper most people can handle
