  1. i always have used Kold Kutter screws and put 3-4 per lug on a XC style rear tire. use a fairly new tire so they have more of a lug to screw into. you will not need tubes as long as you do not puncture the carcass of the tire. there is big difference between regular "zip" screws and the ones that are designed for this stuff. the head of the screw is designed for ultimate traction and tested over countless hours
  2. shit i knew i got the wrong banshee! mine wasnt nearly 80hp stock
  3. ran some clay drags this weekend and after blowing the tires off all day, i want an alternative to the sets of paddles. i would prefer something with a fairly flat profile to the top of the tire. im only pushing around 80's for HP, so i dont want something with 100+ studs in each tire either. might be interested in a set of studded/unstudded terrain tracks, or other sets that can handle me throwing snowmobile studs in them.
  4. thanks for the info guys, i like the ones that fast toys sells actually
  5. what kind of hangers is everyone using? i have a rigid drag quad that just ripped the rubber on the factory hangers and looking at new ones. does everyone use the ones with rubber in them, or will the "solid" ones work just as well? i dont want it to vibrate and break the tab on the pipes is my only concern
  6. what are the specs on the snowmo setup??
  7. in order to run times close to what is arguably the fastest street bike on the planet, you will also need one hell of a fast setup on a quad as well. either massive twin or decent sized triple. that zx-14 puts down 200hp and you will need 160hp+ out of a quad to hit a flat 5 second
  8. the propane injection setup is more suited for mountain sleds where you are on and off the throttle often. keeping that turbo spooling is harder to do when going from WOT to idle and back to WOT. powering an engine with propane is entirely different. i know a local guy running a 502 in a lifted jeep that is fed propane. local cops caught wind of it quick though and he doesnt drive it down mainstreet much anymore lol
  9. if you get a chance to use it, let me know how it works!
  10. never seen it done on anything 2 smoke actually.. but sleds do run it, and run it reliably and efficiently in 300-400hp range.
  11. yeah i realize its not the safest fuel source by any means either. im not trying to say anyone else is wrong in their comments or ideas and im not looking to run into my garage right now, pour the nitro into my tank, strap on a gorilla suit and 60's leather football helmet and assume its going to run on it. i didnt post the original question. all i was originally saying is that it CAN be done, and has been attempted before and that i at some point in my lifetime would like to say i gave it a worthwhile attempt
  12. see, now i commend your comment because you are actually attempting to back your claim instead of just saying it cant be done. i know it would not be an easy or even cheap investment, and at some point in the future i would like to try it. it wont be anytime soon as im already busy enough with sponsorships and multiple forms of racing, but i think at some point ill do some research on it. i wont comment more on the propane subject, because that area has been proven to work for a few years now in the high HP sled world.
  13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAQdo5rD-jg sure they are. propane is becoming fairly popular in the large HP turbo 4 stroke scene with sleds lately. do some research, the stuff flat out makes power
  14. i dont think i ever said propane and nitro.. i simply was comparing the ability to safely run alternate fuel sources besides gas. i also never stated that i would run gas with nitro either.. i would make the switch to alcohol before considering toying with nitro at all.
  15. im running 116 race gas currently. 220lbs per cylinder on my little 4 mill. i would like to try it for these reasons.. 1. it makes ALOT of power, hence the reason top fuel engines are on nitro. 2. people like to say it cant be done, mostly because they havent seen it been done well.. yet 3. i dont like simply following in others footsteps
  16. i am not a doctor, im a mechanical engineer. challenges to me are designing things that challenge the current way of thinking in terms of performance and design. i may not have 40 years of experience in anything, hell im only 23. i am simply saying, it can be done, so why hasnt it? i know a handfull of drag snowmobiles that run nitromethane, so why cant a quad? hell 4 stroke sleds are running propane now if setup for it.
  17. i was never stating that nitro was simple, i know it is not. nitro is highly corrosive if not purged OFTEN. it can destroy fuel lines fairly easily, loves to rust pistons, and burns HOT to say the least. that and 20% is going for around 40$ a gallon last time i purchased it.. i was never saying it would be easy to run nitro in a quad, hell its not even easy to run it in the RC cars specifically designed for it. the way i see it though, if challenges were easy, would they still be called a challenge?
  18. i have been running nitro powered RC cars as a side hobby for years now, and i have always thrown around the idea of trying it in my drag quads. if i can get 6-10 gallons of 20/80 nitro/alcohol mix in those, then whose to say you cant make a larger, more well built engine do the same? or even last longer? only thing that has stopped me to this point is the fact that my quads only run race gas at this point and i dont see it worth the switch to an alcohol setup just simply to "try it out"
  19. i already have the tire to be used for the bar, its off an open wheel on road go kart. ill just have to figure out a way to mount the 3 bolt hub for it. leaning more towards the 4 bar setup now i think, just need to get the tubing for it and start fabbing. not sure about exact 60ft times, our local tracks dont register that time, but the chassis likes to carry the front wheels through second gear and forces me to sit over the tank when launching.
  20. interesting idea with it being a rudder. i was thinking about a 5 ft bar. chassis is stretched 13 over the front and 4 out the rear. not the lightest chassis in the world, but it hooks HARD
  21. that is what i was thinking. when a drag quad hooks and lifts and puts pressure on the bar tire, most of that force pushes up on the top bar and pulls on the bottom. my thought is that most of the support would be needed on the top as opposed to the bottom. if i went with 2 bars on the top, the bottom bar would simply mount to an adjustable plate on the bottom side of the top bars, then the top bars would continue a bit farther and mount the tire on the end.
  22. the swingarm angle on your stock frame bike is just about where i would start with this one
  23. throwing around some ideas, sketches and testing with wheelie bars. what is everyone running for bars? length from swinger, tire dimensions, rear hub setup, 3/4 bar? i was thinking 4 bar, but a 3 bar with the single one on the bottom seems to be catching my eye as well. throw up some pictures and insight on the topic if you have any
