Pods and there effectiveness
WINDYCITYJOHN400 replied to sheerider11's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Picture drinking from a straw. If it's a wide straw that is long, it will take more time to get fluid up to your mouth. Smaller and narrow will get it to you quicker. The interior space of a filter holds a volume of air. This is a time buffer to air needing to flow thru the filter material and into the filter to replace the original air. This can cause a hiccup in the flow as the motor now stumbles in the transition from easy to use air to having to suck the needed air thru the filter material. Hence the use of pod style filters on bikes you ride. (Like on and off the throttle type riding) You don't want a little bog each time. Drag bikes tend to get reved up enough that the really big filters are drawing air before a clutch is released so it doesn't really effect them so they run monster filters. I put some 6" PVC pipe extentions on my carbs on time to move some pods back for more clearance for some BB CPI pipes. Right away I had a bog. -
Do you lift? Are you into guys who do? Do you Crossfit? What are you wearing? Do you enjoy building furniture from scrap items? Things of the nature......

Shipping a complete Banshee engine
WINDYCITYJOHN400 replied to 1CrazyBastard's topic in General Banshee Discussion
I tried the Rubbermaid container and cooler approach. But with a lock-up cover, it wouldn't fit. The ones that did, didn't offer any room for padding. Shipping insurance doesn't cover damage because they blame poor packaging. So if you want to be SURE it doesn't get trashed....a real crate is tge only good option. No promise they won't lose the damn thing. But loss IS covered by insurance. -
GBC XC MASTERS Why buy Ambush and have thinner sidewalls? You can't go wrong with the XC low price and proven design. Virtually identical to Razr 2's at 1/2 the price.

new Wiseco 4 mil pistons?
WINDYCITYJOHN400 replied to south street speed shop's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Well.......regardless of the debate on when reeds begin to open......how does having a LOWER piston window help? It's my belief that timing the release of the stored and pressurised intake charge to be closer to the actual reed flow is good. Before we spiral into a complete motor theory debate, let's get back to the part of the discussion that these pistons effect vs other pistons. I think a raised window offers a better action than a lower window or even a modded window. It can time the release of stored pressurised charge stored in the intake so it acts more like the front side of the soon to be incoming flow from the reeds. It will basically flush and refill the underside of the piston and leave the mixture pulled in on the intake stroke to do the job of filling the cases. It moves the flow closer to the top of the piston providing a cooling effect as well as lube for the pin. In the end......I think a raised window is a good thing. Obviously HOW good is debateable. If anyone feels a lower window has a benefit, I'm open to hearing that point of view. I'm not a believer that a raised window will do any more for PEAK power than previously tested modded pistons. (1-2 more HP can typically be expected) But I think stronger gains can be seen in the low and mid RPM's when the pipe resonance is not in effect. When you're running on motor design alone. I see it as a torque mod rather than a HP mod. So......raised window......thoughts? Adjusted pin height.......input? -

Funny how one guy talking smack can create more heat than light. He isn't involved on the Banshee community. He may build street bikes with RZ power plants….but he chimed in with ZERO posts and tried to talk like a top player. Pissed off so many with off the wall comments, that people want to associate this dude with the pistons. This guy is NOT involved with them. He just has a set and wanted to flex for us all. And YES Tricked……clearly there is no way anyone is going to see 7HP. What we WILL see is still left to be determined. I would like to stick to talking about peoples thoughts on how these pistons might be beneficial for the various parts of motor and port layouts. Carry on…. -

We have been working with pistons designed for the STOCK location of a piston in the cylinder. But stroker motors change the original alignment of the intake windows and the actual intake. This is something that builders have just not tried to address that much.. While it's TRUE that piston windows have been modded in the past. This was largely for the DRAG crowd. So low to mid RPM gains were not widely noted. If you think about the availability of latent gases stored in the intake area, the sooner they are released…..the sooner a suction force can occur in that area and begin to trigger the opening of the reeds. -

Well…….this is an inanimate object. You either find the design to be beneficial for your use or you don't. Who thought it up is really irrelevant. But you can go a head and take a few guesses…. -

Shanye your a big player in Michigan. How do we have 2 sets of these in house for testing and you're still wondering who designed them? He's in Michiagn and a lot of you already run some of his parts…….. (No it's NOT minky) HE was just smart enough to see what these could be and bought up damn near the whole batch. Doesn't really matter to you though. You don't run a piston this small. LOL -

Actually if you think about it as a whole process, when the reeds snapped shut there was an Air Fuel charge caught between the motor side of the reeds and the piston. That charge is still under pressure (the same pressure that pushed all the other A/F mixture up the transfers) As soon as the piston intake windows line up with the actual intake (as piston nears BDC) flow begins due to that charge having stored pressure of it's own. So there IS flow even as the piston stops and changes direction at BDC. In reality, not ALL the fresh air and fuel make it up the transfers. There is always a raw fuel/air charge in the bottom end. Having a motor with a section of it's cycle that DOESN'T involve an intake of exhaust action just leaves a gap in the resonance action. (Like a cell phone signal breaking up during a conversation) That's why you want all the chances for the motor to breath/exhale almost non-stop. This is a NEW design built by Wiseco for the distributor. (Not Minkia and NOT a one off custom run) Minkia is simply a vendor who saw the potential and bought up nearly the entire first batch. So for now Minkia is the only vendor. But he does not have exclusive rights. So the Distributor will be selling them direct in the near future. Is the design public? Well YEAH….we're talking about it aren't we? (All the specs of this new design have been released) Who's the Distributor/designer? Well I'm told I'm just a nobody….but even I know. Won't take long for people to find out. Many of you run his gear now……. We have 2 sets of these in house right now and I'm working on getting a third set for myself. (I think the first set will hit the dyno NEXT weekend.) We'll see……. -

Right now the first batch was mostly bought up by Minkia (Rattle can Ray) to sell with motor kits he's putting together with cranks and cylinders he has. (Yes he's using them as a real basic slap together 4 mill kit.) But the piston design has it's merits and additional batches are planned as the first batch sells. Minkia has the first round of sales, but soon the distributor will be selling them as well. (Possibly here) I'm not sure what the OP's point was, but I don't really give a crap. I'm not a fan of people with ZERO time on the site coming in and throwing elbows to look important. (And he can't manage to answer a PM) What I do know is this piston is a nice item to have at our disposal for setting up motors. As I've said, I'm planing a build with a set right now. Just the fact that the windows are laid out to MATCH the needed location for a 4 mill build is a big deal in my eyes. I think it will really shine in the low to mid RPM's with slight gains on top. I'm not saying everyone needs to tear down motors and start over…….but for a scratch build 4 mill like I'm about to do, it makes perfect sense to set the motor up with these instead of the usual 795's -

Yes, the OP is thinking that the changes in the PORT TIMINGS in HIS application might see HP gains. (And he's guessing high in my opinion at this point and it is NOT a claim made anywhere else) But I don't think anyone is claiming a number based off of Window placement either. At this point I'm guessing 2 maybe 3 HP at BEST over a motor without the properly aligned windows. Easily 1-2 But like I said, with the vast majority of dune/drag guys jumping into Cubs and the interest in Servals for other types of riding……if this piston in ANY WAY offers better low end power along with classic 4 mill top end power without having to go with aftermarket cylinders……. I'm all in. -

Ok, let's clear something up right now…….Whoever posted the 7HP comment…..it was HIS guess. That is NOT a number presented by anyone in connection with this product. Let's not focus on that number any more because it's not realistic based off the testing builders have done over the years. (Piston window mods are obviously not new. This technique has years of research.) In MY opinion 2-3 PEAK HP is reasonable to assume we will see. The nice part (That Shanye touched on) is now there is not the extra cost of getting windows machined and we have a piston that come with the intake windows where the BANSHEE cylinder NEEDS them when running a 4 mill crankl Again, nobody is saying any previous builds are wrong or junk. But future builds with this piston offer some real promise. With the windows raised up, they allow the windows to match the floor of the intake with the piston at BDC. That would/could/should allow intake flow to begin sooner and improve overall flow. Will that lead to peak power increases of 2-3HP? I would think so. To think any higher would require actual dyno testing to verify. (You all know I don't shy away from that.) But I'm more intrigued at the possibility of better low and mid RPM power. This is a factor most don't look into. But if I could see a 3HP gain at 6000 or 7000 RPM, I would take that any day over 3HP at 9000 I'm curious how this piston will aid the power of the motor when your "Off the pipe" like when riding woods and trails. Seeing any gain in 4-stroke or Serval type torque in the low end would be amazing. Especially if it can come without sacrificing the Peak HP. I think I've about talked myself into doing this build. Kinda sad. My little 370 motor was a real strong running heartbreaker. -

At the very least having the widow in the right spot eliminates needing custom machined pistons. Plus a modded piston starts life with widows in the wrong spot. Elongating them only cuts down on piston material and strength. Before everyone starts doubting performance claims…….keep in mind an INCORRECTLY PORTED PASSION CUB MOTOR makes 5 LESS HP. Also it has been tested to show that the V-Force 4 reeds that everyone was so quick to doubt actually made 7 MORE HP in the mid RPM's. (Just because a PEAK number isn't way higher doesn't mean the motor isn't stronger in the useable RPM's) In the end, too many people are already somehow feeling like their motors/builds are being insulted. This is a NEW product! Nobody's saying anyone has a motor done wrong….but maybe now there is a way to do them a little better. I'm pretty sure that this new configuration will at least offer alternative options for people. Sure you can be a NOOB and drop in a 4 mill crank, slap these pistons in with a nice thick base gasket and you're ready to roll. Think about this…..How many time a week does someone come on here and ask about porting and everyone tells them to just go straight to a 4 mill build? How many times does that guy tell us he can't afford a good bottom end right now? THIS piston let's them at least spend the money on a good bottom end first. They can always get porting later. This is the ultimate budget build piston. (There is always the Vito's SuperStock pistons) But this design has some possibilities. I know of 2 motors getting these soon. One is a balls to the walls, go for broke, top number 4 mill build. The other is a 4 mill dialed down a little more. I may just be guy #3 and jump in with both feet on a 4 mill torque build using these……..
