Guess I should switch that to Shearer Pipes right?
-
Nope I think I'd say what you said above. ^^^^^^^^^^^^ Classic. Funny......ever since these dyno sheets posted.........I'm not hearing anything from the "Fit and Finish" cheerleaders.
-
Did I say something funny or did you just enjoy finally getting an answer? He runs alky in his triple now and if you want a laugh...you should see him with his 5 Gallon fuel jug strapped to his back like a Camelback. I takes a lot of commitment to dune from camp all the way to olds hill and back with a triple on alky.

Mailman was running 100LL = to 110 race gas. They interchange.

Correction - I said "Remove your lock-up AND get a Pro Mod type tranny." Once your making the 95+ Hp you are.....shifting is a real issue. With a stock length swingarm your not going to be able to hook the bike hard enough to put all that power to the ground on a launch. For the riding you do an override isn't an option. When you put a lock-up on a stock tranny it doesn't want to shift very well. (Most have to totally get off the gas, fully clutch it and then shift.) So my suggestion is....Call Cameron at Redline and have him mod the tranny. (If you want a non-override neutral down 1-6 that's your call) then get a Mull Engineering shift pro bearing. Remove your lock-up and go with 6 heavy springs and see how it goes. You can always put the lock-up back on if you want later.

Your right. I'm not setting records. But neither is Dave5.0 But I bet he wants his Banshee to make as much power as it can for the money spent. I run the strip casually because I'm not willing to run a bike with no front brakes on the dunes. I'm also not interested in building a bike for drag only. I want a bike with Elka Dune Editions not shaws or struts. I want to run gas not alky cause I dune and don't want to have to fuel up every 20 minutes. If I don't strip my bike down to nothing and run alky....I wouldn't be able to set any records or even be competitive. So I'm not measuring my bikes performance based on your way of riding. I was at the dunes for the HQ ride...were you there? I was running against everyone. I lined up with whoever was there. I enjoyed racing JOHNDEER10 (I think that's his screen name) and my gas 10 mill was giving his alky full drag bike a run for his money. (Quite a few alky bikes for that matter.) But that 18mill DM shark tank bike from Quality Powdercoat wasn't even going to need to worry about anyone. LOL. Can my bike run with Jeremy and Lindsay ? No....not many can. I've known them for years. I just sent Lindsay a video of her cranking a 3rd gear wheelie in their new V-8 sand rail from the HQ weekend. So I'm out there....... The testing I do proves what parts are capable of. If you were at the HQ ride and had met me you would have had a chance to see the prototype part that's about to be released from a major Banshee parts supplier. Most of us are running one of their previous models right now. (Dealers will be told in August that it's coming.) But you don't know me........so I'm nobody in your eyes. Do I talk? Yeah I do. I did a big post about how bad Trinity is and you mock it to this very day.......but now it's common knowledge among even the newest noob/rookie members that Trinity domes are junk and I've been willing to also inform people about why and what to do about it. So you said you believe in results on paper...the paper on the track. Not tied down in some caged room. Well then why the hell would anyone want to hear your dyno test results? Why is dyno testing YOU DO on these pipes something we should all look forward to? You believe in race results. I was really looking forward to the HQ dune challenge as the real throw down test. But that didn't happen. So I've looked for info about these pipes and so far it's all from Passion motor owners or guys who went from T-5's or FMF's to Snipers and many are OOF pipes as well. Mailman posted some quality info. It was real world testing done on the same kind of dyno's that are used in this sport. Then he also included runs from a car dyno. ALL of the runs show a Passion 4 mill DM making very low numbers. Jim is going to talk about air fuel numbers or intake resonance. Dajogejr is all about tuning by ear & plug at the track, thinks dyno testing is a waste and has more than likely never measured his A/F ratios in most of his bikes. I'm suposed to sit here and "Let the racers talk"? Fine. Why don't you all start with talking about a 554 DM that makes .20HP per cc.
-
ATV. You want to properly put a load on your machine to lengthen the run and allow you to see your tune stretched out for a longer time. With an ATV dyno you can do that with gearing or a eddy current load cell. The Car dyno does that...but to an extreme. But Chris is familiar with tuning on both kinds.
-
The one was an ATV dyno = less heat. (99HP) Compare these runs to others you have seen posted The other was a CAR dyno = more heat (113HP) So the Sniper liked heat build up. (More heat helped) But only at the very end of the dyno run. Before that the Shearers are making more power. Plus those Car runs were on different days....so Go back to looking at the ATV runs. They were done back to back the same day on the same type of dyno your use to seeing numbers from.

I'll be back again 17-18-19. Staying at The Silver Lake Resort and Campground. Usually sites 128-130

What does ever having run into you have to do with anything? I've been up there once a month since at least 1996-1997. How would you know if you ever saw me? How would I know if I ever saw you? You don't know who I am......So? Do I need to pass some test with you to "Be somebody?" You don't know 90% of the members of this site. I'm a guy with a dyno who doesn't believe anything till he sees some real evidence. I believed all the talk about how CPI pipes were better for duning and all that fairy tail stuff. But after getting a dyno...many of those myths quickly fell away. I've watched as members of this site drooled with anticipation at the thought of a new pipe hitting the market. (I was one of them.) Now you see dyno runs from a well known member who has about as many dyno runs as anyone has ever had, and his results are showing that Shearer pipes came out on top. Unless your so desperate to see positives that your willing to toss aside the ATV dyno runs (The only kind you've ever seen posted before, that favored the Shearers to the tune of +10 HP) and wrap your hopes around a CAR dyno pass that shows the Shearers making more power for the almost the entire run till the last part of the run where Snipers made 3 more. Those runs were not even done on the same day! I didn't say that he claimed they would work on every motor.....I was saying that if your one of the many members who were hoping that these were going to be pipes that might make your SS 4 mill, or Serval, or Cub run like the wind.....you better sober up and wait for some better independent test results with some smaller motors. Hey is Jim or Gary going to fly out and tune your motor for you for the test? After all....results don't mean a thing if he didn't tune it. No I'm commenting on these runs. Yes they are OOF pipes. But the point is that these OOF Snipers were built for THIS motor. The Shearers weren't "Shearers best drag pipes". They were just what Doug had hanging on the wall that happened to have the large exhaust flange. No where near the pipe Matt would recommend. Those ATV runs were at least 5HP lower than his old 492 Cheetah runs! They HAD to try something....so the shearers got put on.
-
-
That's funny......because they didn't hold a candle to the used Shearers designed for an 18mill that they had hanging on the wall over at D+M. I would have thought that if this new pipe builder had a revolutionary software program that was so cutting edge that he could make the claims of superiority over the entire industries designs......that R+D wouldn't be so necessary. I don't think that Chris had envisioned sending his pipes back time and time again to be modded till they could run with some off the shelf Shearers. Don't get me wrong....I firmly believe that R+D and feedback are needed in designing a great pipe. But I would imagine that since the guys over at CPI and Shearer have YEARS of experience building pipes for many different cylinder designs....that time and experience would lead you to believe them more capable of finding the sweet spot for just about any pipe design. I'm sure that plenty of time was spend developing the 421 pipe on a 421. But the reality is it was developed on a Passion 421. So I'm not sure I'm willing to except that the Sniper pipe slapped on ANY motor is going to show the performance gains we have been told about. (After all this was a Passion 4 mill DM and Sniper had all the specs of the motor....so why is a Shearer pipe that WASN'T designed for a 4 mil DM or even a Passion motor out shining it?) We're talking about a motor with porting, compression and domes designed to work best with the Sniper pipes........Could you test Shearers on a motor that was any more biased towards making the Snipers shine? Everyone keeps saying they want to see independent testing because they are afraid that people will test the Snipers on a motor that will favor a Shearer design.......... This is a test where the motor should clearly favor the Sniper pipes that were custom modded for this specific build........yet some borrowed, mismatched, used Shearers lead in every dyno pass on both style dynos. NOTE: We keep hearing about how the Snipers hold less heat in the motor....but those Car dyno runs are like full pulls up the hill with a heavy load and the Shearers look to hold less heat than the Snipers. I'm wondering if you slap some Snipers on any motor other than the 421 cub that they were designed on.....will you see the same loss? Will you need to mod each set to match the motors needs? How many years till your R+D catches up with the other pipe builders out there? Can you really promote Snipers for use on a SS 4 mill, a Serval , a 370 motor, or a 10 mill cub and still think you can hit the +10HP promise?
-
Why was the motor able to breath better up the entire curve with the Shearer pipes on it? The motor clearly was making more power even before you get to a perceived max carb flow point. Why aren't the Sniper runs above the Shearer runs at ANY point in the curve?
-
Your seeing the info Your reading the info Your understanding the info It's just kind of hard to let it all soak in isn't it. I'm looking forward to the Sniper/Passion response. I sure hope they don't try to throw Chris under the bus because he tried everything.

CPI or shearer for my mods?
WINDYCITYJOHN400 replied to marcboy62's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Well a lot of people are brainwashed into thinking bigger is better. I had BB CPI's on my 472 motor and it was only hitting 81 HP. We installed the BB Shearers and the motor jumped to 95 HP. We called Matt and he said to run the SB pipes to see an even better front side curve. So I bought (used from a site member here) a set of SB pipes and Matts predictions about the curve were spot on. It was hard to walk away from the strong performance of the BB pipe. But after dyno testing them all......I was happy to see that Matt was correct about the peak numbers being the same as his BB pipe, yet my torque numbers were even better down low with the SB's. With the Shearers....535 is the cutoff point between SB and BB. The guys who are running the BB's on smaller motors and prefer them over the SB pipes are usually running a lot of timing. This tricks the pipe into acting like a smaller pipe. But the reality is that in many situations.....if they were willing to go with the smaller pipe and take timing out, they would see an overall gain in power. But that's just some feedback about the great drag pipe debate......We're WAY off topic here. LOL. I've found the FMF's to be very strong running overall pipes in all my dyno testing. Sometimes pipes that have a "Strong Hit" are flat on the front side power and just finally kicking in in the higher RPM's. The FMF's might not HIT like the T-5's........but they might have better overall power. For MX it's a little hard to beat the predictability of the FMF power band. Others also like PC's. -
I'm confused.....I was looking at your post in the dyno section showing your 465 on gas making 113HP and 62 ft. pounds of torque. Now looking at this big 554 DM motor I see 113 and only 59 ft. pounds as a best. Now I know Chris is the king of dyno testing. (He's got quite a few runs over the years.... there are well over 350 at this point.) I think he's made more runs on the dyno per year than runs on the hill. He dyno'd the snot out of that bike to try to find power in that combo. As you can see he's willing to double check his info on multiple dyno's to verify results. He's so into the testing and tuning that he's dynoing dynos against each other to see how weight differences effect results. But I also know he tests in the real world too. So he has radar runs at the hill to confirm the whole dyno vs. real world results too. (As I recall his hill speeds were very close between the 492 and the 554) I have my own theory as to why the heavier car dyno runs differ from the ATV dyno pulls. I also have some thoughts on why your dyno testing runs ramp up so fast. But I'd sure like to hear your thoughts on these results because he tested his 492 on the same dyno as the 554......so the HP numbers are apples and apples.

CPI or shearer for my mods?
WINDYCITYJOHN400 replied to marcboy62's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I had CPI pipes for my 472-492 cheetah. I had called and talked to him about how his pipes would work for my porting and he said my motor was ported great for his CPI's...so I bought some. Then on the dyno the motor only hit 81HP and I was devastated. The dyno owner had a set of Shearers that he threw on my bike and it jumped to 95HP. I had heard many people claim that CPI'd had better low end and were "More user friendly"...but in looking at the dyno curves it showed that the Shearers had a front side curve that matched the CPI's perfectly. They just pulled another 1100 RPM and had better over rev. So my personal testing experience would contradict your statement...but every motor is different. I was just surprised that when CPI tells me my motor is ported perfect for their pipes, that I'd see that big a difference switching to Shearers. Either way......this guys motor has no business running a CPI or Shearer pipe as he's set up with an MX port. -
CPI or shearer for my mods?
WINDYCITYJOHN400 replied to marcboy62's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Nobody is pushing Shearers in the post. Not even me! What you talkin' bout Willis? -
Good. Now that you have a new drive gear you should be good for a while. (We tend to forget just how OLD some of these parts are.) A friend just had a front brake hose break. He was pissed cause it killed his ride day. I was like....."Your bikes an 88..... your brake line is 24 years old!"

CPI or shearer for my mods?
WINDYCITYJOHN400 replied to marcboy62's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
ride.race.live makes an excellent point. I love Shearer pipes as you all know. But for an MX port...the FMF Fatty's will be a better choice. The T-5's make about 2 more peak HP...but the FMF's will have a better overall curve. I run FMF's on the wife's 370 long rod motor and it's got a very nice dyno curve. For your set-up.....I'd say run FMF Fatty's. -
NO! Tim posted on here that he's over booked and might not take new orders for a while. (He's willing to miss out on new orders to put his current customers as his top priority.) That's different than you sending someone your tranny and not getting one back till the end of the season. If you need it now and he's not answering phones...your free to order elsewhere. If your ordering custom A-arms or a Swingarm.......you should still have your existing stuff to run till your custom stuff is ready. The WCR thing is about people splitting cases and shipping their only tranny, then him not getting it back when promised. Greg is a great guy who does nice work but just has trouble getting things to people on time. Tim is a great guy who does excellent work and stops taking new work so he can focus on getting the products to people that are counting on him to deliver on time. Once your lucky enough to be able to place an order with Stellar...you won't get a strung out delivery timeline.

Mah Tew Tousan Tew bansh 100+ MPH
WINDYCITYJOHN400 replied to SyKo's topic in General Banshee Discussion
That bike is "Too Clean" for that owner. He stole that shit 2 nights ago from a 30 year old white guy 2 towns over. That's why he's only mentioning the parts that have brand names on them. -
Replace the impeller with a billet one. Once they boil over like that the pump impeller likes to warp and that takes out the plastic drive gear again. (Mull sells a metal drive gear.)
-
If you want to talk to the wizard..........your going to have to wait in line. Custom means CUSTOM for a reason. CUSTOM = time. But it also means Quality. My Stellar Arched swing arm is doing great!
