Here is a quote from the Keihin Website describing their PWK series carbs...the last 2 sentences pertain to the Air Striker enhancement over the standard PWK model: "The motocross world knows PWK. Keihin PWK carburetors is the dominant carb on the factory motocross machines. Because of their great performance they come stock on a lot of the leading brand bikes. With these features you can take advantage of Keihin's superior performance. Chromed semi-flat (D) throttle valve for excellent response and more flow at high RPM. Throttle bores sized to give maximum power. Easy jetting with jetting parts available. Quad Vents: Eliminates post jump bog-down from fuel plugged vent passages PWK Air Strikers: Directs air to main nozzle for improved signal and throttle response." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have zero experience with these carbs but their concept of operation sounds good. I'm not a carb guru nor do I claim all my info is written in stone...but it works for me. That being said... You asked if these carbs are too big for your engine. Everyone has a point of view on this question because it is kind of subjective and balances out a lot of variables. First...It would be good to find out what size your motor is and what mods have been done to it because if it is a 400+cc ported engine, these carbs could be a good choice...but it depends on what your type of riding is, what engine performance mods you have, and what your altitude is. For instance, if you are running a pretty modified engine somewhere near sea level generally at a higher RPM and at a mostly open throttle position...these carbs are a good choice. An engine is just an air pump, so if you are moving a lot of air, you can run a larger carb. Think duning or drag racing. If your motor is stock displacement, mildly ported, has an exhaust that prefers lower RPM, are at a higher altitude, or are usually riding at a lower RPM trying to grunt around the trails...you'd be far happier with a smaller carb setup for the low end response you need. Less air across the venturi and jets hinder fuel atomization so a smaller carb gives the velocity it needs to mix more efficiently. A lot of low end performance is given up with the use of the larger 33+mm carbs on not-so-modified motors so these are generally used by people that are at WOT (Wide Open Throttle) a lot...like drag racers and duners. If we only had Power Valves.... Read the pinned carb performance notes at the top of this forum from SREDISH. He is a pretty knowledgeable guy about this jetting/exhaust thing and he has helped me out in the past. If you are "dripping fuel"...you probably are going to need more than a 10 drop on the main... A note on buying jets...they can get expensive!! I went to the local small shop near my home and borrowed 5 sets of jets...and returned 4 of them back to them--along with some beer!! It isn't like you will ever need the jets you buy, try, and will never use again... Everyone likes beer!!

You have to remember that jetting is relative to throttle position and "power band" is relative to RPM. Check the Keihin Tuning/Jetting Guide for jet overlap: http://www.keihin-us.com/am/_media/pdf/slide_valve.pdf The 35mm PWKs came originally with a 160 main, DGK needle, and 68 pilot. So you are 10 larger on your main and 20 smaller on your pilot than it was originally. Unless you are running the 35mm Air Strikers... Then it is a 160, DEK, and a 48. If that's the case...it's just running fat!! Keihin's are typically pretty rich to start. I've never seen anyone need to go larger than the supplied jets...only smaller, so your main is a primary suspect. As a reference, my 33PWKs came with a 165 main and I'm down to 150 now on the main and went from the 52 to a 48 on the pilot...and I'm still running rich. I'd think your first step would be to determine which carbs you have. The standard 35s will have "70R" on the carb body facing out to the side, on the flange just above the float bowl. The Air Strikers will have "S65" engraved there instead. Most people start jetting in descending order...starting with the main, then the needle, then the pilot, then air screws. Everyone's Banshee's seem to want something different though... Here is the carb ID. Click to see the detail. Hope this helps... Jay.

I want to pick up a new Electrex 250watt stator because I need a bit more juice than my 200watt RS stator puts out to run my lights. Just wondering what mine is worth if I were to sell it here...what do you think it's worth? Works perfectly and looks new. They are $190 new on (Fe)eBay shipped but they include a timing plate. Stator only...no timing plate. It's on my '02, so it should fit '95 on. Jay.

Kawasaki H2 motor in a banshee frame?
jayzx10r replied to sled's topic in General Banshee Discussion
I was thinking that.... -
You are supposed to check the float level with the carb on it's side and measure where the float stops while tilting it just enough to get the float to move until it tops out (closes) the float valve. Item #8. Parts List: http://www.keihin-us.com/am/_media/pdf/pwk_parts.pdf Carb Tuning and Float Height/Adjustment: http://www.keihin-us.com/am/_media/pdf/slide_valve.pdf I know what my expectation is when I buy parts...and it may differ from others, but it is the same one I use when I sell them too!! I believe in full disclosure of all modifications or imperfections and I expect parts to be the same between components that are supposed to be a mirror image matched set...like jets should be from the same manufacturer to remove ANY possibility of inconsistency...but like I said, that is just me. Personally, I'd want dual floater floats in my carbs. Their buoyancy is what regulates fuel from under or over-flowing your carb which can lead to inconsistent fuel levels...richening your A/F while you ride. So if you jet after reading/plug chopping an artificially rich run, you could actually be jetting significantly lean overall. I think this result will be magnified by how smooth or bumpy the terrain is, so you can never get your jetting as consistent as it can or should be. Plus, the main reason for 2 floats is that if you have a float on only one side is: say your float is on the Right side and you turn Left...the level remains relatively constant. But if you turn Right, the fuel sloshes over to the left side of the float bowl, unloading the single float on the right side...adding fuel because the carb thinks it needs it...even though it doesn't. You finish your turn and you are now running rich. We all know that jetting is one of the most critical settings on our motors... See my Avatar!! :yelrotflmao: I'm not trying to step on anyone...especially someone on the HQ, but maybe if you had been told of the mods before you paid...you might have made a different purchase or price decision since floats run about $35-$40 each.

Which have a bigger hi-mid/top end hit...SSTs or Fattys?

I especially enjoyed his disparaging comments about the bidders of his quad. Maybe part of the reason he didn't get anywhere near what he thought it was worth was because one of the first claims about his wonderful quad is the BS horse power numbers he's throwing around... Everyone knows that the '05 GSXR 600 motor doesn't put out much more than 105HP (with Exhaust and Power Commander). That's what my buddys race bike puts out with a $1400 full Ti exhaust. Even the 750 only makes 125HP. His '06 R6 makes about 10 HP more than his '05 GSXR 600!! Probably a fun ride...I just got a kick out of him crying about the $3250 the high bid was.....Wwaaahhh!! Note: there isn't mention of a Power Commander, engine performance parts, or dyno run. I bet that thing runs pretty lean!!

I broke it! Is it a part that can be replaced?
jayzx10r replied to RIPRuck's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Here is a thread to the exploded view: http://www.keihin-us.com/am/_media/pdf/pwk_parts.pdf I don't see a replaceable emulsion tube on a 38mm here...but #35 on the 28mm is what I'd be looking at... -
First...the why part of my question.... Why is the clutch of a 1000cc 165+ HP motorcycle easy to pull in while the Banshee one so much harder? Even with the 3 stock-3 HD springs, (thanks again, Hyperlite33!!) it is still a stiffer pull. It's not that I can't do it....it just seems that 1/2 the HP should lend itself to an easy pulling clutch lever. I can pull in the clutch on my YZ with a pinkie and my ZX10r with an index finger!! Now the what part.... I've heard of running an R6 clutch pack (is there a better one?) in place of the original Banshee plates. Is it only the fibers or also the steels? What is the benefit and why? Is this setup preferred over the Banshee parts? Would you also use the springs? Any special install notes? Thanks, Jay.

Being prior service...I know!! RIT is clothing dye. RID is to get rid of CRABS!!! Sweet plastic, man.

I agree with the info found on your link. I especially agree with your break in procedure of short shifting while running the throttle more open at lower RPM to seat rings. I've done that on ALL my new engines and have never had a compression issue. And yes, I run Yamaha 2R. I picked up a case of quarts from (Fe)eBay for $50 delivered!! 32/1 for me.

I have not used DHL, but what is the deal with UPS pricing now?? They wanted $15.00 to ship a 2.25 package to South Carolina and $11.50 to ship a 1.6 lb package to Florida. I went to the USPS and shipped each for 7 bucks Priority. \\\Losers///

:yelrotflmao: :yelrotflmao: Finally!! Someone in the WOrm foOD catagory!! That's cool. I'm 46 and in San Diego. Shoot...my daughter is 23!! Jay From SanD.

Is your code for 20 bucks or 20%?

No Prob.

It should haul... My '99 ZX9r put 131 RWHP to the ground with a pipe/jet kit/air filter. Just remember the carbs are set up for "ram air" so make sure you run the pressure line to the float bowls to balance the pressure.

So..... How old are you and where are you? EZ one, right??? I bet this piston is older than most of you... I pulled it out of my '74 RD350 (the purple year) when I blew it up in '83. Un  I just never had the heart to get rid of it.... I'll have 'em throw it in the box with me when I roll out!! :yelrotflmao: Jay From SanD.

All you have to do is spend over $150 and you can use this code for $20.00 off!! Pass it around...it is an unlimited offer... Code: GC2935 Enjoy  Jay From SanD.

Those Blasters have some thick cylinder walls. The stock bore of 66mm had to be "boarded" out to 88.5mm to get 350ccs. What is that....like 90 overbores?? :yelrotflmao:I mean overboardeds?? We get gypped on our Banshees...

I jacked up my back pretty bad and pinched my sciatic nerve...don't recommend this to anyone!! While I'd like nothing more than going to the dez for Bird Day/Weekend, I probably won't make it....unless something miraculous happens by then. I remain optimistic though. I've got Brand New S/K Hauler paddles I'm Jonesing to try out too....

First, i don't know if it is appropriate to post political POV on this site, so if it gets removed....didn't mean to get you as mad as I was when I posted this!! That being said...I live in a "border state" and am getting pissed at the blatant disregard for common courtesy exhibited by people that DIDN'T arrive here the way my Grandparents did...LEGALLY!! Dude cuts me off on the road, flips me off, then endangers others on the road so he can posture to his friends in his beater '80s Chevy with BC Mexico plates (that means No Insurance)...flashing his signs. Totally his fault, but hey...why take responsibility for your actions. I'm getting tired of the taggers, anchor babies, and bussed in gangs to the local schools. My mindset is becoming.....Get The Hell Out!!!!! So Here Goes: What The Government Needs To Do To Get Rid Of Illegals. 1. Remove the 14th Amendment from the Constitution. If ANY federal document should have had a 25-year "sunset" clause...this was the one!! This has perversely been re-re-misinterpreted to insinuate that a person born here of non-American parents is somehow an instant American. This amendment was inserted to aid the offspring of black slaves to become American citizens. 2. Offspring generated from the coupling of 2 non-Americans deposited on American Soil should be considered the fruit of illegal activity...and be treated as such. If a drug dealer or congressman buys a home, boat, car, etc, and are "busted," the government takes all these goodies away because they were purchased with illegally obtained money...the "fruit" of illegal activity. Illegal alien children are the "fruit" of illegal activity...they shouldn't earn citizenship for breaking and entering. Null and Void the Auto-Citizenship thing. 3. Any government program "for the people" must include wording stipulating "American." Case in point: "no child left behind" would be "no American child left behind." 4. Only Americans have "Constitutional Rights". Non-Americans have "Human Rights" which services are paid for by their host country. 5. Amnesty prior to 1986. (In Cali, they gave amnesty to all illegals in 1986) Anyone here illegally here since 1986 would have to become citizens through the INS. No exceptions. The "anchor baby" exception would be void starting from 1986. Got to have an actual start date for any program. 6. First day of school attending children and their parents require proof of American citizenship. No proof, no education. 7. Same goes for ANY taxpayer funded social services...no proof of citizenship, no service. 8. No driver's license without proof of citizenship in ALL STATES. 9. Gang activity/tagging = 2 strike law then deportation to your home country. 10. Working knowledge of English required. 11. Police can enforce immigration policy. 12. 2 year limit OK'd for racial profiling. 13. Drivers license required to buy gasoline. If someone uses his or her ID to obtain fuel for an alien, $1000, $3000, $5000, $7500, $10,000 fine-and jail time. Deportable offense. Children can buy 1/2 gallon for personal use. 14. Institute a "worker program" that tracks visiting workers. Require mandatory updates from employers. Ankle bracelets. No job...no need to be here. If there are 20+ million illegal aliens in America, that means that 1 out of 15 are a drain on our society. You have probably noticed that most illegal aliens don't integrate...they bring their misery with them. Crime, fenced yards, bright night yard lighting.... Ask yourself this...if illegals became the majority, do you truly believe they will treat you with the compassion and understanding they currently receive right now? Notice I'm not downing any particular race, color, or country of origin.
