  1. post a picture of the motor or find out what year of sled it's out of and i can tell you exactly what it is. do the carbs mount onto the engine case or are they mounted on the cylinders. if they're on the cylinders its an old zr 700 motor. if it is the zr 700, aftermarket speed parts may be hard to find. you can contact Hooper racing, PSI performance, D&D racing or maybe Speedwerks to find out if they are still doing work on these types of engines. also try "american snowmobilers" site (www.amsnow.com) for any other info. i know that PSI had a 890cc kit for this engine that put out a claimed 187hp, but wether it's still available,i'm not sure. for the cost of the kit, you could probably buy a more powerful engine out of an old drag sled . i'd say run it and see what happens and have fun.
  2. arctic cat made two completely different types of 700 two stroke motors. if its out of an f-7 its a case reed motor.good power( 125-130) and lots of aftermarket stuff available to hop it up.responds well to porting, aftermarket reeds and twin or single performance pipes.lots of big bore kits available for them. arctic cat also had a piston/port(no reeds) 700 2 stroke.it is an older motor design and it came in the zr-7 chassis. still made fairly decent power (around 120 hp) but go fast stuff is getting harder to find for them. i got one out in the garage. was punched out to 800cc and ported by psi performance.supposed to be around 145hp w/ twin pipes and bored 38 mikunis.(bored to 39.5mm) the piston port motor was alot heavier than the new case reed 700. find out what type of sled this came out of before you buy it.
  3. some go up to 1200-1300 lbs or more around here(NS. Canada) and are probably bigger in BC. be sure to take some real firepower and not just grandpa's 30-30. a pop gun will get you in more trouble than it can get you out of.(you will probably be hunting in grizzly bear country). best of luck and have fun! oh yea, BC is overpopulated with hippies and there is absolutely no bag limit on them what so ever. they can usually be found out poop'in in the woods and grow'in thier stinkweed when thier not huggin trees. might as well blast a few while your there.
  4. for the banshee go +2 and forward+1 if you are making the a arms. better weight distribution.
  5. thanks for the quick reply. so cut the head up 4mil and port the jugs to match. wasn't sure if there was that much room to work with on the domes.
  6. will probably get shot and pissed on for asking this but ,...........Is there any way possible to run a +4mm stroker crank with +5mm long rods with oem cylinders without a spacer plate under them? does anyone make a piston for this type of application? trying to maintain a fairly stock appearance to the engine.
  7. probably any (reputable) machine shop with a lathe can bore them for you. had mikuni 38s bored to 39.5 last year for an 800cc arctic cat snowmobile.not a very complicated process.
  8. good explaination. thanks for the help! will check out the site
  9. what is the difference between a keihin 34mm and 35mm pwk except for size of the carb bore? what does pwk stand for?
  10. sleds and quads are like comparing night and day. they both have thier place. and no , you will not see these things dominate at your local dirt track or at the dunes.with the radiator under the seat there has to be some cooling issues and exposed CVT clutches do not like water, dirt, mud or sand.also, they'd have handling issues galore! they just don't look right without skis and tracks. even if someone gave me one of those kits, i would not do that to my sled!
  11. as far as trail riding is concerned it would be a good idea for an old beater sled but not for me. probably bumpsteer like a bastard. couldn't justify pounding the zr-9 over rocks and dusty trails in the summer.mud and dirt in the belt drive ain't cool! if these work at all, asphalt racing would be the place for them. they'd clean up at the track.as for speed, sleds are fairly quick. I radared at 117 mph last winter on hard packed snow/ice on a zr 900 with a few mods.it was far from being the fastest sled out there that day.(alot of deep pocketbooks around!)about 155-160 hp & 550 lbs. a prostock 800 ice sled is around 220 hp and weighes approx 350-375 lbs. if you could ever get it to hook up with one of those wheel kits it would be an interesting match against a moded banshee. the sled in the picture( 1000 tripple/255 hp) posted a qurter mile time of 8.7 at 149.3 mph.
  12. Wait! i've got a bridge i'll trade you for the banshee!!!
  13. by purchasing parts second hand you can save some coin. it usually works just as good as the new gear. but you will never be able to sell your bike for the same amount you put into it. if you don't have the money to waste, don't even bother. if your bike and mods cost $10,000 for example, you just might get $4500 - $5000 when it comes time to sell it.(probably less ). go fast goodies are a very bad investment money wise...........................but they are fun as hell.
  14. what area are you from?when was it taken/lost? i live in brookfield just outside of truro and know alot of the local dealership owners. will keep an eye open and an ear to the ground!
  15. $109.9 per liter or quarter gallon here in eastern canada. stopped taking the truck to work and now drive the wifes civic. commute about 120 miles to work and back every day.needless to say, it was getting @#*!ing expensive!
  16. as much as i hate to admit , these border guards really have thier shit together. they have really cracked down alot over the last few years.so heres a few tips to make things go a little smoother: they run your plate# and do an ID check so don't try to bullshit them, they know who you are and if you have a record (be honest with them). when they ask you a question don't hesitate when you give your answer. they think you are trying to a hide something when you don't answer quickly. and i know you guys like your guns down there, but whatever you do, don't try and take them accross the border with you. it's never a good thing when you get caught with one.
  17. They screen for anyone with a criminal record.as for dwi, i'm not sure if there is a limitation on that one or not. call Canadian Customs and Immigration and find out.1-800-461-9999. web site- www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca best of luck! The grinch.
  18. excellent point tim ! those banshee articals, unfortunately, will become even more rare as time goes on.
  19. i've never seen a post from "enforcer" anywhere on this site before. sounds like an idiot to me. vote him off the HQ island!
  20. i am interested in the front shocks and a-arms. pm me or e-mail at [email protected] with pricing. thanks.
  21. congrats. i got a transmission rebuild in my future so i guess i'll be a contributor to your dumb question collection!
  22. two or three years ago either in "4 wheel action" or "dirtwheels" there was a comparison of about 12 different banshee pipes.included in the comparison was the t-5, pro-circuit,fmf fatty & gnarly, bill's, ptr,dmc and a couple of others. i would kill for a copy or back issue of this particular issue 'cause it included dyno charts with hp and torque curves and write-ups on each pipe tested.it would be really helpful for someone shopping around for thier first set of pipes(or anyone for that matter). i kick my own sorry ass for turfing that issue!
  23. alot of the hippies have died off down here because of the unusually warm weather and lack of snow or ice. they had nothing to build thier igloos out of. unfortunately it will be a bad year for them and without a healthy hippie population, many of the polarbears will starve!
