After the Bac stuff, guys are terrified of the Carbon Fiber shit. Guys need to remember what Indy and Formula One teams have been doing with Carbon Fiber for years. If it's done by someone who knows what they are doing it is an impressive material.

If I have something completely unknown in front of me, well then it's obviously time for math. But if Joe Schmoe can't tell you what's inside, you would definitely have to pull the head and acquire a few measurements to calculate the compression. At a minimum, bore,stroke, and CC the head. If it looks worked over, take porting in to consideration when doing said math. Question RU. I was re reading a previous post and you touch on a two strokes ability to dump volume before it's compressed, but then the supercharging effect kinda comes in to play and stuffs it back in. This definitely never shows on a gauge but when the motor is running it is happening. Any way to really calculate that additional volume? -
All just concept at this point. Agreed that there would have to be some form of finish. The raw blocks I saw are just that, RAW. It is a concern trying to figure out whether surface finish should be attempted on parts that may need tighter tolerances. I am trying to find someone who already has programs for some decent parts to do a few test parts. Worst case I send them to a buddy with a decent modeling arm of some sort to create a 3D model, and tweak from there.

No no no.... There was some hesatance about doing any structural parts, but I am only wanting it for flat track and hoping the drag guys would help generate a little interest as well. Remember Hiper has done well, however they use enough material to rival any comparable aluminum wheel's weight. These are the same Carbon ingots that Indy car teams are using. I've been looking at the shit people are CNC'ing with good results and am blown away. The bicycle stuff seems to have trouble on pinch points, which is part of what I believe causes the Bac failures as well. Carbon Fiber can take some abuse, but it does not like being clamped on or squeezed together, especially if it's hollow. The hubs and brake stay I definitely am going to try and test out though.

There is for sure. The point I was making though, is that with as many of these things I've put together I know when someone tells me what a particular combo is cranking at, with a little past education it's pretty easy to know what fuel something may need, and I would assume there are several other folks qualified to do the same. You're pretty fluent in the Honda based 250 motors right? So if some guy says "My 01 CR has FMF pipe, V force reed, 18CC head with .052 squish, and Eric Gorr MX port, and it cranks X psi on the compression gauge", wouldn't you be able to just know if it needed race, blend or pump fuel based soley on your experience? (Not trying to be shitty) I'm all for being precise and really figuring stuff out, but sometimes it seems that things around here are far more over complicated then necassary. Yes there is a proper way to figure out compression ratio, and that alone isn't always enough to determine fuel type. You can have a heavily ported motor making a calculated compression of 16.5 to 1, but then cranks at 140. So most guys just belch out 140psi is fine for pump, when in fact it could just be a drag motor with heavy exhaust work and a conservative squish. Of course I could name different variables off all day. But the point I'm trying to make is that I agree it's best to calculate, but with a little knowledge on a combo you can totally use cranking compression to tell you what a motor might need. Is that for anybody to determine? Probably not, it's obviously better for someone with a bit of experience to make that determination. I don't think you'll agree with all that, and I see why. I just think it's a little far fetched that people don't think you can use cranking compression as a sort of baseline to see what a motor needs. However I say that only if someone knows what is inside a given motor. I will agree it is just a useless number if you don't have an engines specs though, and just blindly kicking a gauge and dumping fuel based on the gauge could be asking for trouble. -

Carb angle and location. Some actually happen to be thought out pretty well and situate the carbs in a way that helps with filter clearance. Other then that, it's nice to get rid of the cross over tube. Some are waaaaay better then others. You get what you pay for. -

I am doing a new chassis and there is a very strict diet going on this time. I have been doing a lot of hunting and came across a company that makes "Billit" style carbon fiber chunks. These said carbon fiber chunks are available in pieces large enough to CNC machine a variety of parts from. I have spoke to a few guys who machine Banshee parts and they are only willing to do small product runs at best as it's not worth the time to tool up for one part. I have a small list of parts I think we can get made if the interest is there. Mind you this will be exactly the same as what a company already offers in aluminum. Same program just cut from carbon. Let me know what your thoughts are guys. Add to the list if you have a cool idea. -Spindles (CF block with hub taper pressed in) -Hubs -Misc. levers (kicker, rear brake, front brake & clutch) -Front Master ( don't expect the drag guys to be in on that) -Rear master rezzy and cap -Gas Cap -Possible Round House Rear Brake Stay if required thickness is strong enough. Might need metal inserts.

Ok, this gets to I depth every time this topic comes up. While everything RU posted is legit, people need to remember this is not just some new combo that needs to be figured out. The Banshee platform has already been subjected to just about any combo that can be dreamt up. Meaning that all the foot work has been done. At this point, if you stay up to date, it's pretty common knowledge that a stock cylinder banshee is on edge at about 150-160 psi depending on machine work. Now start throwing variables at it like porting and dome changes and that number may be lower but still need race fuel. Or vice versa. However, in OP's case whether he did a calculated compression ratio or not at this point I don't think it matters because no way no how, will any stock cyl motor cranking 175psi be ok on pump fuel. Remember it's making that even with a little exhaust work. -
Get it in there. It locates the bore and keeps it from moving.

HS Customs Hood. Looking for their hood with the regular banshee style profile with the point over the Radiator. (Not the Screamline) Preferably Fiberglass, as I want to paint it White. I have seen lots of killer Carbon Fiber stuff, but hate to ruin one with paint but I would consider one if it was priced right.
