While you already have the crank out,I would definitely get it welded. That crank sure looks like it needs some work.Just my opinion.
-
I wouldn't worry about it,it's normal for the pipes to be hot.I burn alcohol and my pipes still get warm.Try getting the jetting right and they will still heat up.You probably won't be letting it idle much anyways.Running lean not rich will burn it up.

Need help with tire choice
race-a-holic replied to williamjernigan's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
4-snows hook up really well, but I don't think that's what you need.If you ever run on gravel or pavement,I would not use them. The razer 2 looks like it should hook up pretty good, although I've never used them. -
Bad company, you're right. If it will hook up I think high 7's is possible.I was using stock banshee tires because right now I can't afford better tires. There was a guy at the track that wanted to know when I was going to be back out there. He said he had a 450R.He wanted to race me.I think we all know how that race will turn out.I think he knew he couldn't beat me.He didn't seem like one of those guys that think they are unbeatable.I say that because only banshee riders have that right to think that way.

I took my banshee to the dragstrip today.Leaned the jetting down a little since the first time I took it.The first pass,it run a 8.56.It was spinning the tires to at least 1/2 track.Smoked a mustang in the process. The second pass,I slipped the clutch to try to get it to hook up.It did.It was pulling very hard. When shifting to third as I opened my hand to pull the clutch lever(this might sound crazy) I couldn't reach it.Had to let out of it for a moment. It still run an 8.64.On that pass I broke one of the wheels off of my wheelie bar.Not bent it a little,BROKE IT OFF! Had a good time.

For just duning,I'd probably get the 250R.There is some very fast 250's.Well ok,they are no longer 250's.They are really built to beat me.My banshee loves feasting on 250R's.If you get a banshee,do some porting, change to bigger carbs,etc...I think you'll like it.Pull in the clutch, rev it to the moon, then dump the clutch, you better be hanging on for your life. It's awesome. The only time a 250 can hang with me is before someone says go.I'll keep my banshee.

I once owned a piped raptor,so I think he'll beat you.Pipe your banshee,and he won't.

A stupid question is one not asked.

I once tried a trinity head w/20 cc domes. It might have helped a little. If you have not already, get your cylinders ported. That will make a big difference.

should i split the crank cases or not
race-a-holic replied to combro's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I agree. You should split it.Get the crank checked out and have it welded while it's out also.Cheap insurance. You'll have to pull the flywheel.DO NOT USE A PULLER THAT HAS THE ARMS THAT HOLD ONTO THE OUTSIDE OF THE FLYWHEEL.I did and it screwed up my flywheel. They're not cheap either.Use the type that screws into the flywheel.Lesson I learned the hard way. -
If his has a really good port job especially a drag port,if both of your riding skills are close, you will most likely get beat.Porting really helps the banshee.Bolt-ons help a little.
-
The timing is set at the stock setting, and they are expecting to rebuild it.Thanks.

Hey superbanshee,Think no one else races?Lot of people viewing, just no replies.

Thinking about geeting some different pipes
race-a-holic replied to williamjernigan's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
I can still ride trails with my shearer pipes, but it is not much fun. These pipes really like to run wide open.Of the other pipes I tried(FMF Fatties,Toomey T-5's and T-6's),I'd have to say the T-5's.They are a really good pipe. -
My experience is that bolt-ons really didn't help all that much. When I had it ported, the bike really woke up.There is alot of power to be gained in porting. Most bolt-ons will only gain you 1 to 3 hp.Except for pipes. It's pretty easy to gain at least 10 hp with porting.I love my shearer pipes, but to me the T-5 is better than the FMF fatties I had on it before.Just my opinion.

A friend of mine blew his banshee up this weekend. When they took out one of the plugs,The tip that the spark jumps to,part of it was gone.Like it was burned away.Anyone know why?
-
It will surprise you how much a good port job wiil increase the power of a banshee.Mine was actually easier to ride due to increased torque as well as horsepower. Also get rid of the airbox and just use the K&N's that clamp onto the carbs.Having the crank welded is a little added insurance also.Don't forget how important the right jetting is.If you plan on doing alot of riding and not just racing, you should probably stay away from alcohol carbs.Just my opinion.
-
The stock carbs do ok with mild porting.A set of 34's should help for more topend.

Hey superbanshee,It's a good thing your buddy didn't wear a helmet yesturday(Please no hate mail,I know you should always wear a helmet),I think it would have taken all of us to get it off his head.Especially the way he was running against my brother's quadzilla.LOL.I would like to see the video.
-
I meet superbanshee03 on this forum.I live in Paragould,Ar.,and he lives in Wynne Ar.We got to talking and said we should meet up some time for some drag racing. From Paragould it was me(banshee),my brother(500 quadzilla and a 700 v-force),and my dad. From Wynne it was Kasey(banshee) and his friends had 250R's and a 440ex.We all had a great time, and the weather cooperated.Anybody else on here live close to us,or has anybody ever tried this. It's alot of fun.
-
I tried nearly all the bolt-ons with little results. If you want to see a real change, save your money and get it ported. It will really wake your banshee up,even if you still use stock carbs. All the money you spend on bolt-ons,you could have got it ported.A lesson I learned the hard way.
-
I tried nearly all the bolt-ons with little results. When I finally got it ported, that helped alot.Definitely get porting.Just get the head shaved.FMF's are ok,but there are better pipes.Shearer,cpi,etc...Bigger carbs(34 or 35 mm.) Gearing is also important.Your bike will be alot faster with these mods.It will surprise you. You'll probably need a longer swingarm.Really.
-
Hey MOD,that gearing sounds really high.Dirt or sand?Tires make a huge difference also. The next time I go to some dirt drags,I'll either run a 13/41 or 12/41. 300 ft. is not very far.The last time I went to the drags,4th was the highest gear I would get to (using 14/41).I'm hoping to launch in 3rd and make it to 6th.I might be wrong, but it's only trial and error. There all so many factors:hp.,torque, tires, track conditions,etc... I think I'd try 13/41.Just my 2 cents.

Make sure you get the port work you need for the type of riding you do.If you just dune or trail ride, then you should probably stay away from the drag ports.Be very specific to who ever does your porting what type of riding you do.Getting the crank welded is also a good idea.RDZ done my porting. He's high compared to some, but I'm very happy with the results.Stock carbs. do fine with mild porting.Although bigger carbs. help more on top end.Make up your mind the type of engine you want and don't let someone talk you into something you don't.
