  1. I'm in, with a new set of reeds and hopefully some new cylinders. Maybe an overide. I'm getting more and more where I hate to spend money on these things with the problems people have with aftermarket equipment. Almost have to be an engineer to get it all to work together. Just ask Wes, lol.
  2. Good reliable bikes overall. Main problem though is handling. One of the worst handling sport bikes I've ever rode. A good handling bike boost's the enjoyment factor a 100%, even if your just using it for transportation. You should be able to find a good bike 600cc cafe a lot newer for around those prices.
  3. If it needs paint work you ought to rhino line the exterior. My buddy did his blazer that way and it looked sick. Nice ride and killer buy!!
  4. Get some Zinc plated or stainless staples. I can't stand rusty staples.
  5. Thanks for the input Firehead!! No Wes, the crack is just that, no pieces loose or anything. You have to look at the pictures close or a person may think the actual bottom of the boyesen port looks like a crack but it's a shadow. The actual crack is about 1cm up from the base. I don't think this will have any effect on performance as the rings never go that low. Glad I pulled the reeds though. One was shot.
  6. It's not quite at the bottom but close. The crack is no thicker than a hair and it's perfectly straight. I emailed Calvin and sent him these pics.
  7. Yea it's the boyesen boost ports. You can see the line, it's small in the pics and really need to click on image to see them. Opening it up would not be a good thing.
  8. I pulled off the v-force 2's to find out why it was not running well and this is what I found. I found a crack at the base of the left boyesen ports (looking from rear) near the base on both cylinders. They are identical on both sides. Hopefully you can tell by the pics. This motor has less than 10 hrs on it and this shouldn't be happening. This was my initial problem. That piece broke off the cage and was holding a cuple of the valves open.
  9. For you guys that don't want to spend a ton for polished bolts nor spend the time, just get one of those vibratory shell case tumblers or borrow one from your buddy. They work awesome.
  10. I'd personally like to see the single into double with the T like Galfer does. The dual lines just makes too much to pass around the bars and shroud. Also it provides a cleaner look with less clutter. Performance between the two styles I doubt could be measured.
  11. If that motor has been taken care of meaning regular oil changes etc... Those miles are nothing. It's not unlikely to see those motors go upwards of 6 digits. I've seen a 929 with 70k on it and never any problems other than typical maintenance. I have 24k on my bike and runs like the day I bought it.
  12. That is way low miles for the age of the bike. Seems like a really good buy as well. I still have a 929 I bought new in 2000 and they are great bikes. Things I would look for is any road rash on the hard parts, tweaked subframe and check the fork seals (they go bad quick if wheelied a lot and are costly to replace). If all checks out I'd snag it for that price.
  13. Powder. Though I'm sure plenty have sprayed them.
  14. Yea was a good time, was great to meet up with other hq'ers. Was awesome to ride Jeff's raptor and also for Wes putting me up and treating me like a king and Shawn for letting me try out his rides. I was totally impressed with his new motor, ran very well. I'll have some pics up soon. Had to get some stuff done around the house since I was gone and preparing for the ride.

    Why I'm Tired

I was working when you posted it. Now you have to work while I read it.
  16. Man I loved that site and hate to see it go. I think a few of us could of helped fund it for you. I loved some of your specs page stuff and walk through's, they were great. I've always wanted this site to have an area for just that to no avail. Anyway Dennis, just a little thanks for what time and effort you did put into that site that many of us enjoyed for quite some time.

    +4 swinger

Cascade make's some really nice looking swingers. They were my second choice but I wanted quad pinch bolts for the carrier.
  18. Well you have to think that not all people running those motors are running the same length swinger and chassis set-up. There's never a consensus as to this is "The Best". You will have to get the info and figure some of the details out for yourself. This is what keeps the competition going between different set-ups and builders.
  19. Tyler, I would look at the Alpine units, like a d300 or something close to your price range. I've had one for 5 yrs. You also have to buy the bypass circuit that they use for display boards and such and I think they can be found through pacparts.com. Also check etronics.com for the head unit. I've purchased from them in the past and they are hard to beat.
  20. You have to think of where we are today compared to just 40 yrs ago. They wouldn't show Elvis Presley below the waist because of the way he moved his hips. Today there is practically nudity on over the air broadcasts. So censorship is not getting out of hand at all, it is just the opposite. Another 40 yrs and your daughter will learn about sex on Saturday morning cartoons.
  21. I have a lot of work to do myself!!! I was going to tune it today but it has been raining all day. I put my summer jets in so it should be close. I will either be there Thursday early or late and possibly early fri morning if I can't get off work Wed night. I am shooting for early Thursday though.
  22. I never heard any of the sort prior to his death. I know there were many many kits sold here to members and I've yet to ever hear of a complaint till just recently like a few months ago.
  23. I have no problem with it personally. The thing I don't like is some of us have kids running around the house at times. I also like to browse this site on the big screen in the living room but I have to be careful when the kids are running in and out. For the most part everything has been tasteful, but I don't expect a quad site to be inundated with porn either. There's plenty of other sites for that.
  24. They must have changed their supplier after Russ died, they had to. I've bought 3 kits over the last 3 yrs. 2 from Russ, one for my truck and one for the shee and one from fastnerguy for the shee. I don't like fasnerguys because they weren't polished to my satisfaction so I replaced all of them with Alloyboltz kit. Never had a problem with strength on any bolts from either company. I've had them several years so some of them have been on and off a few times. All of my case bolts were all torque'd to spec as well though. I just cannot see someone twisting one of thhose bolts before they strip some internal threads. I cross threaded one in my tail light and ended up having to cut if off cause the thing was so hard. I did get the bolt to twist a little but the torque I applied was pretty major for a small bolt like that. I was actually surprised of their strength. Another thing, I talked to Russ several times on the phone, he was a talker for sure. He always mentioned that every bolt his kit replaced was stronger than the factory grade bolts. I assume if they weren't, this could be a great liability issue. Anyway that's my 2 pennies.
  25. Been there done that. I kept dislocating me knee till I had surgery, got to the point that it would slip out just walking. Good to go cept I'm suppose to wear a knee brace when I'm jumping my quad or playing soccer.
