  1. none of the service techs i used to work with went through that shit. the only specialized training they got was when one went to racetech school for susp, which the service manager teaches. i was on my way to being in the service department when i left for school, 3 months later and id be in. so, in this case, id say skip schooling. going to school for racecar motors is one thing, but to change oil on a sportsman 500 it isnt necessary. go start applying at local dealers to do setup/assembly type work. its nothing fancy but you make around $10/hr (around here anyways). plus its a great way to build your tool set, whic youll end up with over 10k in really easy. so the more you can stagger that cost, the better. craftsman is ok for the handy man, but youre gonna want something a lil better if youre using it to put bread on the table. good luck.
  2. its 14 in OK, if you want a 250. 16 otherwise. the bike is more reliable than your riding skills, given the proper maintenance is done. and keep those things off the limiter. ive seen more than one piston go sideways in a bore cause the douche thought: "i thought thats what the revlimiter was for, derrrrrrrrr" its good for a second, but not a freeway mile.
  3. superchicken seems to be a grea guy, so try everything before you run him through the mud. if he still doesnt respond, the HQ will black list him.
  4. get in wiht your dealer. and then ask them for a crate. i bet we threw 10-15 quad crates away everyday. get one of them and your shipping woes are over.

  10. I was wondering where the hell you went.
  11. oh, id steer away from that shit too.
  12. the large primary on the clutch basket is riveted on, if its a factory basket. dunno about hinsons. im unsure as to which gear you are talking about. but in that whole complex there are only two har gears to deal with. the one on the basket, and the one on the crank. the one on the crank is removable, but its got to be pressed on. impacts are the only way to go on that nut bro. on and off. replace the bend washer behind the clutch basket nut too!
  13. whats a bracket swingarm?
  14. no shit. i wish i could afford coors all the time. sadly, for now, its keystone.

  17. it is a plug on the left side of the cas, i believe ther is one just in front of the countershaft. you can slide those shift rods out from either side, but the other one is just a c-clip holding it in. my guess is that there so yamaha can mill that to very closer tolerances with out some vey expensive tooling.
  18. happy birthday, thats a fucked up blister by the way. pretty cool.
  19. no way chief. aluminum doesnt spark.
  20. anytime. id bet they are rediculously overpriced. so like $5 maybe?

  22. just put them in place and then switch it around to se which looks right.
  23. i bet you are talking about the plug that lets you remove the rod the forks slide on from the left side of the case. am i right? cause i lost one, and all my oil, once too. luckily the oil mixed with the sand i was in and it kept the plug in place. go to the dealer and tll him to let you look at the parts fiche. itll be under transmission probably. OR GO HERE that link is to the yamaha online parts diagram. follow these prompts Step 1: ATV Parts Step 2: any year will do Step 3: bansee then go down to the section for shiftcam/fork. check out part 18. is that it?
