  1. OOOOOOOOOK , I stand corrected, this would be the first.
  2. I have an 87' and I'm waiting on a cdi box as I type. I found it here from a member. And yes, the oem is $499, I got mine for $50(used of course). The guy was parting out his shee. I went to the For Sale forum and found mine. Go there first, then go to Repairs forum to the word search at bottom of screen and type in cdi box. It will pull up all of the cdi topics and every-now-and-then someone will mention in there topic that they have an extra cdi for sale or other ways to find one. I have yet to have someone on this site tell me to buy any other cdi than the stock. I guess they are suggesting that our money would be better off spent on something else. If this is true, you've gotta love'em Hope this helps, keep us posted.
  3. Welcome to my world. I'm sparkless myself. Buy a Clymer manual, it's the best $20-$25 you can spend. The manual will walk you through step by step. You are going to need an ohm meter, it's a must have. With the manual and the ohm meter you will be able to chk the key switch, kill switch, and statar. Even though the manual states that you can chk the coil with an ohm meter, they would be incorrect because you can't get a correct reading. You need to take it to a steelership, they will chk your coil for free. I chked mine w/a meter and it claimed that the coil was bad. I posted here about all of my meter readings and a couple of members mentioned that I wouldn't be able to chk the coil myself and they were correct. Took it to the dealer, they chked it and shee was fine. There is not a tester to chk the cdi box. The only way is to remove it and install on another shee. According to the manual, my statar was shot I replaced it last wk and I still don't have a spark. So, the next thing I have to replace is the cdi box . So, good luck and keep us posted.
  4. Any autoparts store!!! That's where I picked up mine. Good luck!!!!
  5. PM me for pics and price if anyone is interested.
  6. Thx, I will attack that this wkend.
  7. absolutely
  8. Came OFF in about 5 secs not OF Sorry for the typo
  9. I also had a hard time getting mine off. What I did was 1. Get the flywheel puller, I got mine from Alba for 9.99 2. I put my foot peg back on and used it for a brace. 3. I also used liquid wrench around the rusted area. 4. Screw in the flywheel puller counter-clock-wise all the way in and then back off one half turn. 5. Put some oil on the end of the center bolt so it will turn easily with all that pressure being applied. 6. I used a cresent wrench on the outer area of the flywheel and turned the whole flywheel until it met the footpeg(that's my brace), that way the flywheel (engine) will not turn as you are applying some serious torque. 7. Then I used a half inch rachet on the inner bolt and most important a 3ft CHEATER-BAR. If it were not for the cheater bar I believe it would have taken me to other methods, headaches, and newly invented curse words. 8. Have someone tap on the flywheel as you apply the pressure. I tried and tried for a couple of days to remove the flywheel and failed until I thought of the brace and cheater bar. Came of in about 5 secs. FYI: My shee is an 87 and sat up for about 10yrs. The flywheel was really rusted on. Hope this helps
  10. Thx for the advice on the seafoam, I am going to chk this out for certain. I'm sure alot of others will too. Thx-a-mill
  11. What about the cdi box?? How much???
  12. 87 or 88 cdi box????
  13. how much for the cdi box
  14. Also, how is the 88' better
  15. When you figure out what you are going to do, let me know about the cdi box. I'm looking for one now.
  16. Nate, did you have to replace your cdi??
  17. How much for the cdi box???
  18. I didn't measure b/c it about 1/8" from it. To be on the safe side I will. I was wondering if that played a role in spark other than timing being off. Thanks alot
  19. Is there an aftermarket cdi that is better. Or just try to find a stock on here or ebay .
  20. Good luck . I'm restoring an 87'. If I can help you along the way I will b/c the 87' and 88' models have certain innerchangeable parts only such as the cdi box and so forth. I would be on cloud nine if I could just get a spark. But right now I feel like doing this .
  21. Is that not the biggest rip-off. Yamaha new what they were doing when they didn't make a tester for the cdi. I guess it can go bad over time just sitting there.
  22. Just got my flywheel back from boonman lightening it. I also have a new statar from RickyStatar. According to Clymer and few responce from members in the forum, the old statar was shot. I installed both and still NO SPARK . I had the steelership chk the coil and they said it was working. According to Cly. my ignition and kill switch is working. I'm praying that the CDI box is not shot, so if there is anything that you guys think that I may have not done yet PLEASE let me know. My luck, I will buy a cdi box and the problem was fixed with a $20 part . FYI 87' Sat up for about a decade Nothing is frozen up It was running fine when parked Broken throttle cable was whe shee was parked After a yr of not riding b/c or throttle cable shee had no fire.
  23. Thx for replying. For the rest of you, keep the suggestions coming.
  24. Hey People, shee has sat up for several yrs and I'm restoring her back to life. I was wondering if there was a way to clean or flush out the trans/clutch oil completely. I'm not sure if condensation has built up or not. Is this one part that you don't screw around with and just let it drain for several days. I also can't crank it to heat up the oil. Clymer does not have a suggestion on this one. Any help at all THX
