    Is this only when the engine is cold? If so and you adjusted everything properly like you said, it normal. You may be able to eliminate the problem by switching oils.

    I would think that with the incomplete combustion it would actually run cooler and poorly.

    You'd be throwing away your money unless you mods called for it, ie more than 7* advanced timing or compression above 160# or so. List your mods and these guys will be able to give you a better answer.
