  1. It might depend on your state. If you built it from scratch and have all the receipts for the materials and parts then you might be okay. Build pictures help tons as well. For California you have to take the bike to the DMV and get it inspected. Then they give you a form that you have to take to the highway patrol along with the bike, your pictures, and receipts. They'll xray it n' stuff and then issue you a VIN number and rivet the tag on. Then its back to the DMV to turn in the paper work. Dunno about an engine number though, you may have f'd up there.
  2. Personally I feel that anything more than +4 and the handling gets so bad that its not as much fun for general riding. If you do some motor mods and you can't keep the front end on the ground then you need a longer arm. You want to run as short of an arm as possible.
  3. For drags of any length go with a 9 paddle hauler or 8 paddle extreme. If the drags are REALLY short (as in barely make it to 4th gear or less,) then go 10 paddle hauler or 9 paddle extreme. If all you do is drag then get an 8" wheel. If you want the bike to handle better for duning, go with a 10" wheel.
  4. Not the final version but:
  5. It really sounds like a cable issue. Take off the filters and look into the carbs. With the engine off, watch the slides open and close as you give it throttle. They should be going all the way up, and all the way down.
  6. Yup, you lost a nut. I did this out in the dunes once. Had to tip the shee on its left side and pull the clutch cover to recover the nut and save the oil for the ride back to camp.
  7. Why wouldn't you want to sand it? I've done it before. Just don't attack it with a pneumatic spinning 80 grit. A piece of 220 grit and your hand will take off the paint just fine without sanding out the numbers - well unless you sat there sanding the one spot for 5 hours. It should be on the lower frame rail, just forward of the left footpeg. And yes, they had VIN's in 1988. Also you shouldn't have a problem with the DMV. Since its been sitting for so long any record of it is long gone. Worst case you might need to get it inspected by the CHP, but I doubt it.
  8. 14" 6 paddle: CLICK
  9. Like me, she got bored with the site. The people that made this site great all left a long time ago. Just a matter of time before the few interesting folks that remained got bored with the same arguments, same questions, and left as well.
  10. Your stock head will need to be cut to accept the added stroke. So compression will depend on how much they cut and will also possibly be affected by the porting. Yes you'll need race gas with that timing advance. 28mm carbs will be too small, try 35's. Top HP and speed numbers will depend entirely on the porting
  11. If you're looking at the Explorer Pro Comps don't bother. They're pretty cheaply made and will only last a season before the rivets begin to fail and the whole light begins to shake. Otherwise, 35W is what you want. Don't try to go with a higher wattage or the lights will be dimmer and very yellow.
  12. Sell the +6. Drop in the stroker crank and get some porting, 35mm carbs, V-force's, better clutch and 6 HD springs, stroker cut domes and a +2 or +4 swingarm. Go with the +2 if your mostly a duner, go +4 if you mostly drag. Don't forget to get the rear shock revalved for the longer swingarm. While you're in there, change out the water pump impeller and drill an oil return hole in the bottom of the clutch side of the case. Get a 15T front sprocket and a case saver for insurance. Run that setup with 9 paddle haulers or 8 paddle extremes on Douglas Blue Labels. Keep the dome size mild and you can run pump gas. He won't touch you.
  13. I've seen them in person and they look infinately better than the IMS tanks. Unfortunately, don't have a pic.
  14. Yes that's correct. I agree 100% with GlamisDave. I do some pretty decent jumps on my shee and haven't bent a blue label yet. If I hit something hard enough to bend a wheel, I'd rather it be 4 nuts and $50 than a hydraulic press + an axle.
  15. Nope I didn't make Halloween this year. Plus I just got that trailer a few weeks ago.
  16. I'll be out. Camped in the same spot as always out in the dunes off 78/Gecko:
  17. My last trip is usually Mother's Day weekend. After that its Pismo only till Halloween.
  18. Click the link in my signature. Oh and I agree that "kits" are an f'n joke.
  19. I dunno about "love having it done". I did mine, and it was a mild PITA, but tolerable. Do I love having a DC system? Uh, well its pretty similar to the AC one, just cost more. Do I love my HID's? Absolutely! Was the conversion worth it? Yes, for something as nice as the HID's. I wouldn't do it if all you want is to be able to turn your lights on w/out the engine running or something like that. If having those alarms is important to you, then go for it. You'll need a 200w stator since you lose some wattage in the conversion. I was told that you shouldn't exceed 170W or so once you switch to DC.
  20. Yeah, but that's a f'n small ass area up Azusa Cny. Covina ain't a bad drive to several spots. Texas Cny, Stoddard and El Mirage are all about 60 miles away.
  21. Gaaaah! I can't believe nobody has used Protect-all. I used to use plexus, then I tried the honda stuff. Protect-all works way better than any of that shiz. Its less streaky than plexus and has UV inhibitors which most of these spray cleaners don't have. Basically its better than anything on the market right now. I've used it on all my vehicles for the past several years. Website
  22. Apparently you didn't see the trebuchet I made...
  23. Never been to Gormon actually. Texas is connected to all the other spots out there (eventually). Drinkwater, Warm Springs, Ruby Canyon, Sawtooth, Burnt Peak. And of course good ol' Del Sur - that thing has ruts that'll swallow a quad no problem!
  24. Stoddard is out the 15 just passed Victorville. SCV or Santa Clarita Valley is up the 5 near Magic Mountain (just over the hill from the 14). I grew up in SCV so know where all the semi-hidden riding areas are. Loads of legal riding up there if you know where to look.
  25. Huntington or Redondo Beach here. Live in HB, work in RB. Ride 95% Glamis, 5% Stoddard Wells, El Mirage, Johnson Valley, SCV, Dumont, & Pismo.
