I would start with a 180 main and 52 pilot, needle 3rd clip
mine ran like a beast with that set-up, I moved to Reno (4500' above sea-level) and it ran perfect with a 170 main and the same set-up, plug chop was dead-on
**this was with a 38mm PWK though**
I like Pro-X, they are a nice OEM style replacement piston, they do not expand like a forged piston, this CAN extend bore life. The pistons that got me 20,000 miles on my RZ350 were not Wiesco
sounds like the same thing to me, I got it running good and reving out nice after I put a 225 in it. I will get a EEK needle and keep tuning. Thanks for the help!
just got her back together...new everything on top
I was running a 180 main with the stock porting, and I can't seem to get enough gas to this thing. I keep going up on the main jet and it signs off too early. I have a 205 in it and it pulls strong up to around 6500 rpm then the power falls off in a hurry.....plug looks good, but there has to more pull left in it. Any of you guys running a 2-1 with porting have any ideas? I'm going to pick up some bigger jets tonight.
trinity intake---38 PWK
trail port
dek needle..3rd clip
52 pilot
4500' elevation
205 main ....pulls strong but does not rev out far at all
I just put mine back together with an agressive MX port, I am running a trinity intake and a 38 PWK. It runs very strong so far, but I have alot of work in the jetting department. It pulls the front wheels up on the pavement at half throttle through 3rd gear. It revs out alot farther than it did with the stock porting. I think when I get it dialed in it will be very impressive for a single carb set up.
There is a place in Apache Junction on Ironwood Rd that rents some quads. This is about a 1 1/2 hour drive from Tuscon if you take the backroads through Coolidge. I'm sure there is a place that rents em in Tuscon too. There is plenty of good riding up that way so I have heard (never ridden there myself) If I was you I would take the 3 hour ride to Yuma and rent ya a shee or slowhundred EX in Brawly they come paddled up and ready to rock
you can buy direct from Elka, but the price is going to be on par with what the distributors sell em for. around 450.00 sounds about right. But at least when you buy em from Elka there is less of a chance of getting them valved and sprung wrong.
air down to about 10psi and give her hell, I went all over buttercup without ever putting my yota in 4wheel drive. try and keep moving in the soft stuff
cool thanks for the help bro...I didn't think that filter was as big as it is from looking at the pic of your set-up...fuggers massive! Dennis said he gets another 3 ponies out of his bikes using these.
I thought about just taking one of the bolts out of the relocation bracket and swinging it the side up against the frame but It might look cheezey. Do you just run the overflow line out in front of the swingarm with the carb vents?
I bought that huge K&N filter from Packard like you suggested, and it's too long to run without hitting my overflow tank. How did you mount your overflow?
hard to find motor....and stock they don't really hang with the newer 6 hundos, I think the RZ put out around 86 hp. But the sound, look and smell more than makes up for the few ponies it's lacking on the 600's. Now with some mods (and an old GP race tech helping you build) you can make em fly.
I am running a 38mm PWK on my trinity intake, runs awsome! no complaints at all, I should have my cylinders back from getting ported next week, so I will see if it still cuts the mustard.
very nice bikes, my little bros 525exc is like a caddy over the rough shyt at 90+ mph. best advice I have is to take the whole bike apart when you buy it and locktight every piece of hardware you can. He's selling it in AZ for 3500.00 if you are intrested let me know. it's worth alot more than that but he's racing his crf450 more now because of the weight.
