  1. Yep, I disconnected that a long time ago. Do you think it could be the reeds? They are still the stock ones from 2000 so I'm sure they need to be replaced soon anyway, but I was thinking that maybe decaying reeds could cause it to bog way down at half throttle. But then I come to think that it couldn't be that because if I hold it at 1/4 throttle it eventually gains RPMS and starts to kick in, but I can't push the throttle in anymore or else it will bog down....what the hell could it be?
  2. Well, today were the ice drags...lets just say I didn't get to run. Last weekend the jetting seemed perfect, it almost ripped my arms off when I was riding it. Today rolled it off the trailer onto the lake and it seemed extremely rich. Bogs down horribly after 1/2 throttle, I then tried leaning out the needle (didn't have any mains with) and it only helped a little, if at all. I then ran it without the clamp on filters (ran pantyhose over the carbs, clamped down) and it seemed to run a little better. I am just wondering why this sudden drastic change? The temperature only changed 5-10 degrees (warmer) and we are at a 100ft increase in elevation. I am just stumped, once a friend of mine gets done working on his 416ex in the garage I will be heading out there to try and change the mains, that is if I have a smaller size. If that doesn't help out I'm going to try and see if it needs to be richened. Is there anything else that would cause this? This is the second year in a row that this thing has crapped out on me, this spring I am getting rid of this pile of sh*t! Thankfully a friend of mine let me drag his Raptor, I have never ridden anything with that much torque! Only got 74.7mph in a 1000ft drag but I wasn't used to the gearing and riding it yet, but I guess that's pretty good for about 1/5 of a mile. Of course it had a full HMF system and aftermarket cam so that might've helped out.
  3. I don't think you'll need to rejet for changing your oil mixture.
  4. I'll have to run outside quick and see what size my extra pilots are, considering I need to run out to my truck to get my drill battery charger anyway for my ice tires. Almost got those babies done, they look pretty nice...especially on the HiPers . I've tried both ways on the idle screws and it doesn't affect it at all. I'm completely confused about this.
  5. Well I took it out for a ride tonight after putting my stock 14 back on and it is running perfect. So I'm guessing something was rich because it was about -20 degrees out without wind chill. I'm having one problem though - it won't idle. How can I get it to idle, I've tried adjusting the idle screws and the air/fuel mixture screw and nothing seems to work. But it does idle with the choke on until it gets too warm...this is confusing the hell out of me.
  6. Are you guys having problems with warm weather up there or what? It's been around -40 with windchill here as a high. Tomorrow morning I'm putting screws in my holeshots and going out on the lake right after I check my pilots, it seems to be running rich.
  7. I got the Banshee basically running extremely well, except for the fact that it sometimes backfires while under hard acceleration and letting off the throttle. Have I leaned it out too much? I dropped down to a 150 main and the needle is in the middle position, a 155 is too rich though. Should I try changing the pilot to a smaller size? I was trying to take the pilots out by just twisting the carbs, I'll have to try to take them out by having the carb completely out. As of right now, I won't be working on my Banshee at all because the highest temperature for this weekend is supposed to be -5. Not exactly my kind of working environment.
  8. Yea I saw some of that at the hardware store, I'll pick it up sometime but I will be running the pods for the ice drags. It's so much easier to work on the carbs without it hooked up to an airbox, this way I only have to unscrew one thing and I can move the carbs around. I'm having some trouble on the jetting still. Right now the clip is at the 3rd setting (middle) and I'm running a 155 main (started out at 170 and moved down). Right now it runs good at some spots, but mainly just applying the throttle it bogs a bit and backfires after awhile like it's getting too much fuel. Should I try adjusting the needle leaner? I'm having a problem with the pilot jets, I was going to take them out to see what size they were but I couldn't get them out...When it was eventually unscrewed it tilts a bit and gets caught on the threads of the bottom of the float so I can't pull it out. Confusing to try and explain. Tomorrow I'm going to give the jetting another try by adjusting the clip, and if that doesn't work I'm just going to leave it and hope all goes well. Could my pilot jet be too rich? Would that cause a problem with 1/4-1/2 throttle? Also, how do I adjust the idle on these carbs??
  9. They fit on the stock intake actually, I recommend going with an aftermarket intake just to be safe but it seems to work fine. You NEED to get different carb boots for connecting to the airbox though, so I just used a pair of clamp-on filters from my father's motorcycle. Worked like a charm!
  10. What elevation are you running at? That doesn't seem to make sense because you are running a leaner oil mixture and your jetting is leaner than or close to stock jetting. Mine came with 230 main jets when it was stock and ran just fine and I'm at about 800-900ft above sea level. Is your air filter clean? Try taking off your airbox lid and see if that helps.
  11. What's so great about the older pipes and why did they change them IF they were so great?
  12. I haven't checked the pilot jet yet, didn't have time to mess with the jetting the other night because I was messing with my HiPers...I realized tires do not cooperate well in very cold weather. The carbs come with 155 main jets stock, then in a little baggy it also came with 150's and 160's. Tomorrow morning, FOR SURE, I am working on the jetting...I have the day off of work and I am going to get all of this jetting crap out of the way so I know for sure that I'll be ready for the ice drags. I bought pairs of 165, 170 and 180 main jets at the dealership...they raped me on the price though, $5 a main jet...they said Mikuni is a lot cheaper and "better", but then why do people always get Keihin aftermarket carbs...hmm...
  13. If you want more torque go with a stroker.
  14. Those are what I'm running on my Banshee right now, my PWK30's wouldn't fit with the stock airbox. I took those filters off of my KZ400 streetbike that isn't being used for the winter...fits perfectly.
  15. I used carpenter screws that are about 3/4 of an inch long and run 2-4 in each piece of tread, depending on the tire. This provides great hook up on ice as I used this on my Banshee last year and am doing the same this year, except I might add studs. I don't know how many studs to run though...all I know is they give A LOT of traction. If you have the studs too long I think it makes it too hard to pull on top end.
  16. Okay thanks, I'm just heading out the door to go work on it. I'll have to stop by the dealership tomorrow because they close at 4:30...bastards.
  17. I believe the only difference between the V-Force 2's and 3's are the bolts used to keep it together, I guess the 2's had problems with them coming out and causing damage. So they eliminated the need for them on the inside part...so basically I think the 3's would be worth it, considering that the price has been dropped from 250 to 216. I've heard nothing but good things about the V-Force reeds, except from people who run Boyeson or some other brand who want their stuff to be the best. I have never ridden anything with V-Force in it but I plan on getting them for my Banshee sometime soon, considering that I got bigger carbs and porting now so I'm sure it'd really wake it up. From what I hear, keyword: hear, it really wakes up your engine...especially with porting.
  18. I didn't have enough time to do a plug test or anything of that kind because a friend of mine was hurrying me to bring his EX home (he doesn't have a truck). So I was only able to ride it around for a few feet seeing how it ran. It did seem to run good on the main jet but the needle felt like it was lean. I closed tonight so I didn't have any time to work on it, but tomorrow night I don't have to work so I'll be in the garage fine-tuning it. Where would I be able to find jets for this carb?
  19. Hold your kickstart still and see if the sound stops. Do you have enough oil in your tranny? Is it the right weight, maybe that could cause noise from it being too thin or thick? Idk...just throwing ideas out.
  20. I got the Banshee back together and running, but it seems a little lean on the needle and gas is flowing out of the overflow. Do I need to adjust the float level or do they come already set? What do you recommend for the clip setting on the needle? I think it's right in the middle right now...which way is richer, moving the clip up or down? I can never remember that. The carbs came with jets but the highest main jet is 160 so I stuck that in there, seems to run good when the throttle is opened up.
  21. If it's the end cap, then he should at least rejet if not replace it..I've heard about the valves eventually being ruined because of no back pressure? If it's part of the pipe, I'd definately just replace it instead of risking damage to the engine.
  22. I'm running XCR's also and they have awesome hook up! Haven't used them long enough to see how the wear is, only put a few hours on it so far.
