  1. Has anyone heard of running the complete front end of the YFZ? Arms, tie-rods, spindles, etc. I tried doing a search for a complete YFZ front end but didn't find anything. I would think that'd be the best setup as you'd get the wider front for cheaper than aftermarket.
  2. They must be bored out by Keihin or someone that has the capabilities of stamping it onto the carb because on both the carbs is stamped 30mm. I have notice that they are extremely rare though. Anyway, I finally got everything together and it started on the first kick! Gave it no gas, no choke, nothing. Needed to turn the idle up a little bit and I need to go down on my mains. Other than that, she runs absolutely awesome. Never had this much throttle response on my Banshee, I could lift the front end up no problem which is something I've never been able to do on my 'Shee without jamming the throttle and standing on the grab bar. It bogs out once it hits the mains so when I get back from my riding trip (decided not to bring the 'Shee along, don't have it registered anyway) I'm going to drop down to 165's and see how it runs then. Right now it's 52 pilots, 3rd clip on the needle, and 175 mains. Like I said, runs absolutely awesome until you get from half-WOT.
  3. Weird, that just sounds way too lean for a pilot. What's your needle set at? I'm just getting close to getting mine all together (had to make custom carb boots so it'd fit onto the airbox). I've got the clip in the middle (3rd position), idle set so it's just starting to raise the slide, both slides pull up at the same time so it's synched, air screw set at 2 1/2 turns out (recommendation on that?) 52 pilot (guess I'll see how it starts, I only have 50 and 52 which is what it came with) and I have 175 mains in right now.
  4. I'll have to run out and check what I got in there for clip position and main jet but back when I had the other engine in with porting and clamp-on filters it ran awesome from mid-top end, it's just that I couldn't get it to idle or run on low end. I'm going to be running the airbox now and the porting is stock so hopefully I'll be able to get it running good. I don't understand why you're running the lowest pilot size available and the leanest clip position. My carbs came off eBay with jetting supposedly for a Banshee and the pilot was a 52 I believe and I believe the mains were somewhere around the 150-160 range. Like I said before, with the porting and clamp-on filters along with the full exhaust it ran great mid-top, just couldn't get it to idle or run in the low range worth crap.
  5. Anyone? Need to get this jetted by tomorrow...NO clue where to start with the jetting and I've tried searching, didn't come up with anything useful.
  6. I finally got my Banshee back. It was stolen over a year ago along with my 400ex by some meth heads and it was found rotting away in a woods nearby the meth lab. I had to buy an engine off of eBay because they trashed my freshly rebuilt engine (over $1000 invested) so I finally got that in and running. It runs like crap on low end until you get into the powerband and it just takes off like it's supposed to, but I feel it could be a little bit stronger. The engine came with stock carbs and they are jetted for a T-5/6 exhaust and I'm running the FMF Fatty series, so I'm guessing it's off anyway. I decided that I'm just not even going to mess with the stock carbs as I hate the TORS and I have a set of 30mm Keihin carbs for it. My problem is before the Banshee was stolen I bought the 30mm Keihin carbs but had no clue what jetting to run in it as the sizes are different from Mikuni. I tried getting help from this site before but I don't believe I got it. Now I'm back as I'm bringing it along on a riding trip this upcoming weekend and I need it in tip-top running shape. The only mods done now (old engine was ported) are pretty much the FMF Fatty pipes and PowerCore II silencers and the 30mm Keihin carbs. I'm at about 1000ft above sea level and the temperature is anywhere from 50-80 degrees (night to day). Could anyone give me a good starting point on main jets, pilot jet, and needle clip positioning? Thanks, - Neal
  7. After a year of my Banshee sitting, I'm getting ready to start a complete rebuild of it. I'm also looking to sell my '05 YFZ450 SE soon. One year ago a few meth heads stole my 400ex and Banshee and to make a long story short, we eventually got both of them back. But as we all know, meth heads don't take care of stolen machines. The 400ex wasn't beaten up that bad, but I sold it to a friend for cheap just to get rid of it. About a month later the police found my Banshee in the middle of a woods slowly rotting. It appears the engine seized at low RPM (probably idle) because only one cylinder was seized and there was minimal damage to the cylinder. The head was badly damaged on the seized cylinder side as there are small pits all over it (detonation?). They must've been running low octane non-mixed gas. Well, as you all know, when a machine is sitting in the middle of the woods open to all elements for a few months, mother nature isn't easy on it. It's rusted all over and everything is shot (what pisses me off the most is that I just spent $1000 rebuilding the engine and that's all got to be gone through again and my new FMF pipes and silencers are rusted). My question now is, can someone give me a COMPLETE list of all bearings and bushings, etc. that I need to replace to get this in good rolling condition. Also, what should I look for when going through the engine? As I said, this engine was completely rebuilt just a few months before and only had been broken in. My next question is, is there a reputable company that makes good bearings/bushings and possibly sells a complete rebuild kit or just all the individual bearings/bushings for a decent price? The bearings/bushings will be for all stock components (still running all stock suspension/a-arms/swingarm). Thanks, and yes I did a search and couldn't find a complete list for this and any company names were given about two years ago, so I wnat to make sure they're current and still around.
  8. Move your needle clip up a notch or two, check what pilot jet you are running and go down a size or two on your main if it's running rich. Make sure to do a plug chop to see where you're at for jetting in the different ranges. Also, your air screw should be at 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 turns out depending on what you're running. What are your mods?
  9. If I sold it right now in the condition that it's in, it wouldn't go for more than $1000 . Working on shit doesn't piss me off, it's just that when I have gone through everything and nothing changes...plus the fact that there's two to everything, gets tedious after awhile. Well, just an hour ago I put the stock carbs back on and took it out for a ride. Now the problem is exactly reversed. Doesn't too well on low-mid (like it's almost flooding out) and then it screams on top end, I mean it really pulls like a mother f'er. Guess tomorrow I can mess around with the jetting and see if that's the real problem this time with the stock carbs, considering I did have it ported and I still running no airbox, but I plan on putting it back on.
  10. I would do that but I am in the process of getting them back. I was working on the 'Shee over at a friend's house and he let someone else take my carbs for free...as you can probably guess it pissed me off pretty bad that he would give my own things away for free, but hopefully I should have them back tonight.
  11. Have you read any of my posts? I started out at 175 and worked my way down to 150. And I must've forgotten to mention that I have went up on my pilot and it didn't help at all. Also, I don't think I have enough room to do a 6th gear WOT plug test because I can't get up there fast enough.
  12. Try messing with your gearing before you go into expensive mods. What gearing are you running right now? Sounds like maybe you need to go up a tooth, especially with the mods you have it should have no problem pulling an extra tooth.
  13. Oh wow, that would make a lot of sense considering I did take off the cover to my flywheel to change my front sprocket...hmm I guess I'll have to check that out. Thanks!
  14. Nice story there, made me laugh. As for the coil, it's a new coil and I can't seem to find my replacement that I had lying around...so I'm not going to go out and buy a new one just yet. *EDIT* I just got inside from switching the coils (found my spare) and it made no difference, so now I'm back to I still have no clue as to what the hell is going on....
  15. What are these needles you guys are talking about? I'm having a problem with my PWK30mm's where it cuts out at half throttle, basically feels like it's flooding out and falling on it's face, but leaning it out hasn't helped and richening made it worse. I have gone from a 175 to 150 and I don't know if I should get more leaner jets or not, anyone have any ideas? My clip is at the top position (leanest) and I don't know what to do now.
  16. Amazing that even on a Banshee website, I have not found an answer to my problem...man this sucks .
  17. I would think that, but I replaced the coil just a year ago and I would think that it would act very poor throughout the throttle ranges, not just 1/2-WOT. I was going to try switching my coils around with my spare, but somehow I've misplaced my spare set...
  18. Could it possibly be because of low compression? The rings were put in correctly and it doesn't have very many hours on the rebuild, so I don't see how my compression could've dropped...but I'm just trying to think of anything that could be wrong. I suppose tomorrow I could try a compression test to see where it's at. Has anyone else had problems like this??
  19. I just got in from working on the Banshee and I have decided that I am just going to part this piece of shit out. Can't figure out for the life of me what is wrong with it. I've changed the pilot jet, main jet, needle, air screws, several sets of plugs, checked to make sure I was getting proper spark, etc. I can't figure out why this thing is just falling flat on it's face, at idle (won't idle on it's own, have to hold throttle) it is just fine..bring it up to 1/4 throttle it's fine (not as good as it should be though, I remember it used to sound a lot better) but once you open it up it just falls on it's face. I'm trying to run every possible scenario through my mind about what could be going wrong...I can only think of the mains, that is the only place it is really being affected. I even checked the reeds, perfectly fine...I suspected that one of them had broken and had caused it to bog out as this same thing happened to my friend's Blaster. Anyone want a pair of 30mm Keihin carbs w/ throttle cable?
  20. I suppose I could check that, but these silencers haven't had much use. They have probably only 15-20 hours on them, if that.
  21. Is it possible that it could be a cracked reed? It seems to be only fouling bad on the right side, even though everything is the same and I've changed plugs 3 times now. The coils are new and I've tested the spark with new plugs and the spark is strong, so that's not the problem. Tomorrow if I have any time I will probably take it apart and check out the reeds, if they are cracked I guess I'll be saving up for some V-Force reeds.
  22. The problem is as of now I have no where to do a plug chop and the fact that I would never be able to get up to 6th gear with this problem going on, as when I go past 1/2 throttle it bogs down and fouls the plugs.
  23. Would it make that big of a difference? I know for a fact that it's running rich because it's fouling out the plugs if I hold it at 1/2 throttle or more. I guess tomorrow I could try that out and see what the verdict is.
  24. You're kidding right? I sure hope so...
  25. Yea, I don't have an inline filter but before I put all this back together I had cleaned the petcock and my carbs are brand new, but I did check to make sure the jets weren't clogged because I thought it might be the problem. I'm totally stumped...I'm just going to stop by the dealership tomorrow and pick up some smaller jets.
