  1. thanks guys. sounds like it should be ok. one less thing to worry about while riding.
  2. i'm like you and get out maybe 1-2 times a week, if i'm lucky, and ride mostly trails and farm areas. my average summer has been a few oil changes, a few plugs, a set of brakes on the rear, about every other year on the fronts, but the most costly seems to be axle bearings and some other linkage bushings or shock bearings about once a year. i've replaced my a-arm bushings once in 4 years, swing arm bushings last week after 4 years, new chain and sprockets once, (after 2 years, about due for a set again). anything else has just been minor mods that weren't really necessary, just wanted. i've put a total of about $2500 in repairs and mods combined into mine since i bought it new in the spring of '01. so yearly, my average would be about $625 per year. i keep it in good shape, but then again, i don't get to ride near as much as some others either. oh, and i haven't had a reason to tear my top end apart yet.
  3. i'd suggest the float bowls being mixed up, or the crossover tube between the carbs not being on, before diving into a rebuild, or more complicated issues. start with the simple things.
  4. my chain was almost out of adjustment, and the sprockets are barely worn, and the chain doesn't seem to be stretched to bad, by play around the rear sprocket. so i figured, what the heck, i'll do the old trick of removing a link. tried to put it back together, and now it's too short not enough adjustment. i had an extra master link that i had bought once, and put it on to make up for it. now i have 2 masterlinks side by side. it's held up good so far, i have about 40 miles of hard riding on it. is it more at risk of letting loose, or will it be fine? i don't want to get a new chain just yet if i don't have too. thanks.
  5. i rode my buddy's raptor, expecting a comparable ride to my shee. both are lightly mod'd, but it wasn't near the rush of crackin my shee open. i didn't really like the feel, the blaahhh sound of the 4 stroke, and it just didn't seem to want to pull out from underneath me if i didn't hang on, like my shee does..... no regrets with the shee!
  6. strangely funny not something you would think about normally, but something probably everyone can relate to. i have 11 guys on my crew, some of which treat the shop bathroom like it's a barnyard. i'm the foreman so i have access to the office area restrooms, which are always clean and i work nights so none of the office people are around. so i have no problems doing the deed at work. unless the cleaning lady happens to pop in then it's embarrassing cuz she has to wait till i'm done of course, to do her job. i've learned her routine and avoid the restroom when she's in that area. it's hard to bs with her as usual after she has to clean the bathroom after waiting on me. i usually avoid her then too.
  7. a guy at work asked me what kind of atv he should buy. i asked him what kind of riding he did and so on, then made a few suggestions. he kept saying, no not one of those, i want an atv. i finally figured out his problem, and i went round and round with thim till he understood that 2wd quads are atv's too, not just 4 x 4's. i ended up telling him to stick to bicycles/mtn. bikes.
  8. that's great! i love women, and respect them for all they deal with, but i thank God that i'm not one. life is so much easier! especially now with my wife being pregnant. thank God i don't have to deal with that, just her complaining about it.
  9. that's some funny shit! my little girl was watching me play, and one escaped from the night vision. mj's pic came up and she jumped back and screamed ' oh my, what's that?" i about fell out of my chair!
  10. one of my favorite hunting seasons is rabbit season. so yep, we shoot'em , cook'em and eat them every year. nothing new here. i can't believe people are stupid enough to send this guy money. it's a rabbit for cryin out loud!
  11. sounds like it's time to have a good guard dog in the house. my german shepherd would have taken a leg off of someone before they got away with any of my stuff. i'd like to see them try to run away with my shepherd attached to them!!
  12. i'm not really sure what caused it but each side is cracked around the eye, one side in the front, and the other side in the rear. i've towed my trailer with 3 quads on it before, but that's the worst load i've put on it. i was in a wreck towing the trailer last summer with 2 on, but i didn't think that would crack the spring eyes. it was only ft end damage that i knew of, and nothing major. i'll do some more searching here with your suggestions. thanks.
  13. with the cost of it new in '01 + mods, repairs, etc... about $8400. i can't imagine tossing thousands more into it just cuz i felt like it wasn't good enough yet. besides pipes and a few other minor mods, i upgrade when things break down or need replaced, that's pretty much it. i guess that's what having a wife and kids and a mortgage does to you. but i can honestly say that i wouldn't trade any of it for all of your sweet banshees combined... well, ok, maybe the mortgage.
  14. i have a '93 full size blazer and i need to replace the rear leaf springs. dealer wants roughly $450 per side, and the only aftermarket stuff i can find is suspension lift kits, most of which don't include the complete leaf spring set, and they cost so damn much for ones that do. i'm just lookin to fix it, not turn it into an offroad monster. stock equivalent would be fine, but i cannot find that anywhere. anybody know of any sites to check out, besides 4wheelparts.com, jcwhitney, etc... i don't want to hit up the junk yards either. thanks.
  15. make sure the e-brake isn't on, or the wiring isn't messed up. also the TORS can throw fits that will give similar symptoms also.
  16. i was assuming that was done already sorry.
  17. again, understood, BUT... concerning a two stroke motor in which the gas is premixed, rich or lean most commonly refers to gas to oil mixture for the purpose of lubrication to the top end. rich or lean can be changed without touching the carbs and adjusting air flow simply by changing the ratio of the premix. if you are premixing way rich, and say, fouling plugs or smoking a lot, adjusting air flow won't solve the problem. premixing way lean cannot be compensated by restricting air flow either. the premix is still lean meaning less lubrication for the top end and will still seize up or cause part failure. fuel to air ratio is carbeuration, which falls more into the jetting phase of things. yes, if you have more fuel (properly mixed fuel) than air flow, it is rich. or higher air flow than appropriate, it is lean. the key thing to this is that in this topic we are talking about the premixing ratio, not carbeuration/jetting. i could run a 400 main jet which may be rich in the sense of flooding the engine with fuel, but if i am premixing my 2-r at 100:1, i am still running LEAN for lubrication for the top end. it just depends what your'e talking about, premix or jetting, as to what you call running rich or lean. hope that clears this up.
  18. why would the info from RM in the link say "' motorcycle only" ??
  19. no problem sredish, i know what your sayin. sounds like a good plan to me.
  20. go ahead and overfill it and let us know what happens
  21. UPP well worth the $$ for the kit. but you may have to drop the swing arm to do it the first time to get the old stock stuff off. unless you can very carefully remove the old dust cover, etc. i dropped the swing arm instead. it's really not that bad to do.
  22. yeah, ride it... it's probably just a little overfilled and blowing out the overflow tube. keep an eye on the res tank. shee's usually do spit a little out everynow and then.
  23. understood, but in general speaking, referring to rich or lean is referring to oil content, not gas content. too rich on oil, or too lean on the oil mixed. the gas is what it is. rich or lean mix of oil determines the effectiveness
