  3. ive seen a butt load of KTM's out here in the desert, its a stout very well built bike, great suspension great motor, runs kinda like a good running Kawasaki, real husky on the low end, but the 125 wont beat a built shee in a 100 yard dash, if the shee hooks up, the 125's take alot longer to wind up, than a twin 350 does, a good CR-500 on the other hand is a hard bike to beat in a drag if the guy can ride..........
  4. with stock gearing a CR-500 does 86 mph, mine does a 100 cause i droped 4 teeth in back(from the stock 51 to a 45) and raised one tooth in front, and it will smoke the KX500, in open riding races.........and theres no freaking yamaha 350 twin two cycle motor in any frame ive ever seen pop a wheelie off at 80mph ive gone through the gears on a wheelie on my shee geared tall and as soon as i hit fourth, down it goes on a power wheelie, to balance one, on the top of 5th or 6th would be freaking insanity and id like the guy who did it to autograph my bible.....

  12. id go for the elka shock.......and sell the stocker to someone whos not as serious a rider, unless you want a plush shock for the pits, then rebuild the stocker, a shock thats going to soak up hits at 70 mph is not going to feel like the Works shocks you have up front, it wont be soft or plush but the faster you go the better it will feel, but will feel stiff hitting shit at low speeds, and the plusher rebuild will feel great at lower speeds but will pitch you off the bike at high speeds, i havent found a great all around shock yet............
  13. its pretty goddamm hot right there at the exhaust port, ive never had any bike with chrome pipes street or dirt not blue for about the first four to six inches, id say its normal jetted lean or rich, hot is hot.........

  20. i think with stock jugs and low compression your better off with leaded pump fuel its when you start getting into the 155 psi and higher compresion, you have to start running 50/50 or straight av fuel......i have to run at least 108 or risk detonation, so i get the 118, i like it, it burns real clean when i do a plug chop my plugs look good and wet yet still have a nice golden brown burn to them, you could run your stocker on av fuel but i dont think it would run any better.....id be more apt to run your stock motor on unleaded 91 or 93 and add some trick racing fuel to it, making it high octane unleaded.........
  21. heres the way a friend explained it to me.........i have a 425+ cc stock banshee, and you have a race ported stroked 370.................thats why you jump out of the whole 3 bikes in front of me................with out being to technical he pretty much hit the nail on the head for me.........
  22. mine 2 Pro, just fresh rings before an implosion and your set, actully after your in sync with your bike nothing feels better than a fresh top end ........i broke my fresh rings in on 10 laps of short burst's of the throttle at 20:1, toped off with 50:1 and when out and held it wide open, for a 20 mile shot across the desert, i have the same pistons too, they looked great, runs like a damm champ................Jim builds a great motor........
  23. yeah i think it will help it, cooling it down is a smart idea, friction and heat make for wear, keepng clean coolant and oil that hasnt broke down is key, but rings are metal and so are the sleeves in the jugs, so at some point the combustion chamber will become sloppy, thats why a compression tester is key........you can change the rings every day if you want and maybe never seize, thats why guys pop new rings in at the first sign of wear its so much easyer than a piston exploding on you, or crappy gas and oil scratching your sleeves because theres debris in your fuel or oil...........thats why theres that little screen in the petcock........
  24. i have a stock shee that droped 20 psi in the left jug and ten in the right after 60 hours.........i just put rings in my passion motor after 45 hours of wide open desert racing, because i went from 180 in each jug to 165 psi, didnt even hone it and i was back to 180 psi in both jugs...........the compression tester is your best friend..........i have a cooler and a temp gage and i can pound my bike and it doesnt exceed 165 degrees that could have something to do with it.......you could eat out of my air box, i allways run fresh 118 race fuel and change my gear oil every other moto, i agree with pro quad, fresh fluids helps friction a whole lot, adding life to the rings, but he and i both, when we take the shee out we pinn it for the entire time were on them, i have a little honda 70 i go fetch beer on, its got about 3 million hours on it i wonder if it needs rings yet
  25. im sorry im not sure what "taken care of means" i have fresh oil, fresh 118 octane fuel and a clean air cleaner, but when i race i do hold my she pinned for the entire race, does taken care mean i haul it out to the dunes and go up a hill or 2, then go fetch more beer?........im confused to.........
