travis6767 Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 ok this is whats happening i have an ajustable timing plate and i cant hit the powerband unless it is set a +10 when i try it on +4 it runs but as soon as i get up in the rpms it feels like it is cutting out This is what is on my bike trinity mx port and polish cylinders trinity swirl cylinder head stock reeds stock carbs with 280 jets motion pro carb caps k&n pod filters toomey t5 pipes weisco pro lite pistons adjustable timing plate this all started when i had to tear down the motor and i seen that the stock timing plate was broken (it had fmf reed cages and reeds in it then) and it ran great until the timing plate broke so i replaced it with the rickystator timing plate and put stock reeds in it because the fmfs where getting bad So the 3 things i am wanting to know is 1 is it bad to run +10 all the time 2 why wont it rev like it should at plus 4 3 would the after market reeds make the difference Quote
Paddleboy Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 your main seems a little small? whats your elevation? also ricky stater have bad name for being junk. i dont really know anything about timing yet so maybe someone else can fill you in on that. Quote

Dinner Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 when i try it on +4 it runs but as soon as i get up in the rpms it feels like it is cutting out That is probably because your main is too small. When you start running out of fuel, your engine cuts out. What is your elevation and air temp? With those mods, especially being ported, etc. You should probably be at a good 300 or + Main, unless you are at a high altitude... Quote

Turn it back to +4, +10 is too much for that bike. How is your air gap between the pick up and flywheel, it should be at about 0.020" 280 does seem lean, what pilots are in it, what are the air screws set at, whats the needle set at???? I suggest 300 or 310 mains, needles at 3rd (middle) clip, 27.5 pilots and 1.5 to 2 turns out on the air screws. Make sure they're synced and keep an eye on your plugs. If your reeds are junk it will make your motor run shitty, but it sounds like an electrical (bad spark?) or carb (lean?) issue. good luck. *ps - do you still have the stock clutch perch and parking brake assembly on? It has a rev limiter that can cause some head aches, but if thats the problem you won't be able to ride it at all. Edited July 23, 2008 by AssWhore Quote

blowit Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 (edited) If you are concerned about a potential timing problem, you need to get a timing light on it and see where you are at. It is possible to have mounting of the pickup coil issues which ultimately decides your timing, not the plate itself. Also, if your air gap between the flywheel and PU coil is large, it will cause this delayed response and require more timing to work correctly. Brandon Edited July 23, 2008 by blowit Quote

Brandon thanks for all the help i will mess with the jetting and the carb needle and see what happens. but the pickup coil is a .020 and i have not really checked the timing with a light i just went off the marks on the plate, and i dont have that stock parking brake shit on there those are the worst thing yamaha has ever done thanks thanks thanks Quote
magz Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 you got the same set up as a buddy of mine, just he doesnt have the porting. 320 mains, stock pilot. 2 turns out on air. make sure your filters are clean and it will run perfect also +4 on timing. do that then check back in. Quote
MarineNYC Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 I had close to the same set up and was running 310 mains for sure and 30 pilots I think Quote
travis6767 Posted July 28, 2008 Author Report Posted July 28, 2008 well i put the 310 mains in and it runs way rich and not any better the pick coil was out a little to far but it still is acting weird Quote
