Smoked by a ltr450

Recommended Posts

So I was out on my 2nd trip with the new banshee Saturday and these two guys pulled up my friend points out that one of them has a ltr450. So I get this bright idea to see if he wants to drag. After the proposal he tells me its got a pipe, cherry bomb, and one other thing. I figured since Im not that great of a ridder, and my bike is bone stock that he would win, I just wanted to see how my shee would compare. It was no contest, he walked all over me! Both times I just gave up in third gear. He would be at least 6 bike links in front. So my question to bansheehq was whats it going to take to keep up. My plan was to get the t-5 package, K and N pods and bigger carbs. Will these adds get me close? Thanks for your imput.

save yourself some money. forget all the bolt on low hp getting mods. talk to a builder, fast, passion, herjugs, whoever. let him reccommend a port job, pipes reeds and filter. you will smoke the thumpers with your feet up on the fenders.no contest.

I'm an excellent rider with a pretty much stock 'shee and lost to a yfz450 by only 2 quad lengths...lol!

I dunno, guys... I think that the T5's/bigger or better carbs, and some timing advance will get him real close--at least close enough to make it a rider thing versus a faster bike thing. I basically have "bolt on mods," and my Shee feels faster than my KFX450 (but I don't really know...).

I'd recommend you proceed with the bolt-ons, then see how you like your bike. You can then decide what type of riding you prefer and build from there. And with the right bolt ons (like those you mentioned), youwon't have to upgrade them later. Just my .02

i have raced a few. im a decent rider, but not a true racer.....anyways, when we go for equal, piped for piped. i can run dead even with them 4, 5, 6 races in a row. give a stock 450,a dn i cna beat him. give me some heavy modded thing, and i just cant do it no matter how hard i try. they just seem to be fairly equal quads when you have fairly equal riders.

but i would say the first thing i would do to that, is get some tires.....then make sure its set up for you, handlebar, shifter location, clutch adjustment. things that make you feel at home, that will make you faster with out spedning money. then just log all the seat time you can. i learned how to ride better by being left behind all the time. i was forced to ride harder and faster to just keep up.

just my .02

good luck, you will beat them in time

I am not bragging but I think I am n good rider, I've got pro circuits, v force 3 and K&N on my bike with 4 degrees timing advance, My friens has an LTR with cherry bomb, full system and DMC TFI, we run next to each ohter, the YFZ also, right next to me, you won't be beating them with bolt ons. Get a port job with the bigger carbs, game over...

i know 450s are fast but you said you quit at 3rd gear. all four strokes are going to pull ahead of you untill 3rd because of the hook up there weight gives them. do a full drag through all gears then see how far he has you. and he will still have you but maybe not as bad?

What order would you guys do things, also how much does a good port job cost. Yeah I heard the tires do make a difference.

1 Pipes & K&n filter

2 V force 3 reeds

3 Porting + cool head with the choice of domes (call a builder for dome size) + stroker crank

4 Carbs

5 suspension (front)

6 Suspension rear

7 boost bottle :yelrotflmao: ... just joking

oh yeah and when your money dry up and you think its enough, then...

9 4mil cub

10 bigger carbs again

happy for a few months

11 sell 4mm setup on ebay

12 10mm cub

14 bigger carbs for 10mm cub

15...

16...

100...

101...

everyone on here will have their own opinion.

But thats the nice thing about banshees... or maybe not so nice thing

I went to St. A's over the 4th of july, I was beating and competing with most of the shee's there with my LTR, which has CherryBomb, 13t sprocket, no airlid, removed baffle, and 110 octane race gas. Like what was said earlier, these are no joke, it takes a little more then just boltons to beat some of the new 450's. There was also some YFZ out there running that were cleaning up, i only saw a couple people with highly modded quads run with them. Rick (from wyoming) on his modded 700 rapy was even havin a hard time run with some of them.

but as far as money goes, you cant beat the banshee. cheap power.
