_Hex* Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 (edited) well i was putting a motor back together and my stupid torque wrench wasnt reading right.. digital so the number 11 bolt from the cases snaps with the tip getting stuck on the bottom half ... le sigh hahah any ideas of getting it out without messing up the cases open to suggestions Edited May 22, 2008 by _Hex* Quote
KaosBanshee44 Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 I got this little set from Craftsman that gets stripped and broken bolts out. I don't know if that bottom case bolt is two big but you could probably drill a little starting hole and use this bit to unscrew it out. Kinda hard to understand what i'm saying since you can't see the drill bit i'm talking about. Quote
locogato11283 Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 thats why i dont use torque wrenches. i dont trust them. i trust my arm and wrist though when wrenchin shit down. one time i torqued a head to the stated 22 pounds and it leaked like crazy. never again will i use one of those torquing devices. At work we use these like you described.... drill a hole in the broken bolt and then insert a special reverse threaded tap and unscrew the bolt. Works pretty good. Craftsman may have a different name for them. Quote
LS1Inferno Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 i dont know about yours but my studs (factory) are in WAY to tight to mess with and easy out, youll end up breaking it, is ther ANY bolt stickin out to weld to? ive done that a few times. Quote
250psd Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 Are you saying the case bolt broke below the top half? If so your best bet (even though you don't want to) is resplit and use visegrips or an easyout. I just may be misunderstanding you though. Welding is a good option too since it won't stick to the aluminum if the stud isn't buried in the case. Good Luck! I hate stupid set backs like these! Quote
