eagle Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 I am in need of some case sealer. I usually use Threebond 1211 or Yamabond. I was curious if Felpro or someone like that sells a sealer that is similar or identical in composition? I really like the 1211 but it is pricey and always have to order the stuff. Quote
shanYE west Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 I use threebond 1104 I think its only about 4 bucks a tube. Quote
Screaming Yellow Zonker Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 Nothing really compares. You could probably get away with gasgacinch or some other non hardening sealer. Quote
LS1Inferno Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 hell all i use is some black silicone (sp?) it works fine, and comes off easy with a razor blade when i tear it back down. Quote

You haven't had any problems sucking air. I was told to never use regular silicone because it can gap and not hold the bearings causing premature bearing failure. Quote
rubberneck Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 I havent used it on cases, so take this for what it is worth, but this shit is great. Its called the right stuff, and it is the same shit they use at the oem on a lot of differentials and trannies in place of gaskets. It comes in an aerosol can like a cheese wiz can. It seals everything i have used it on really really well. I wouldn't have any problems using it on cases, i just havent needed to. It is very pricey though, so you may as well use the threebond i suppose Quote
wesw Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 ultra gray by permatex available at most parts stores works great Quote
jbooker82 Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 The thing with using RTV is gasoline eats it. Using it on sufaces to seal oil is one thing but it wont hold up to gasoline. Quote
2000twin Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 I think permatex is gas and oil resistant.I'll have to look.. Quote
mopar1rules Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 for crankcases, i use three bond 1104. now that stuff is called 1194. changed the chemistry of it a little. suppose to have a little more time before it sets. the threebond product is the same exact thing as the yamabond. a permatex guy at the local tech school said that permatex makes that stuff for yamaha, threebond, gm, ford and some other companies. the only thing different between the ford stuff and gm stuff is the color of it. they just change the dye. the yamabond and threebond are even the same color. yeah, that right stuff is the shiznit. its black and in that cheez wiz like tube. you put that on a valve cover on a car, or diff cover on a rear end, good luck getting it off...seriously. i can't imagine if you would use that on your cases, how you would ever get 'em split apart again. nvrhom Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 locktite makes an anerobic sealer that works great, meant to be used where there is no gasket. used it on my cases worked great, readily available not too pricey. Quote

Hey, i never said anything about removal, I just said it will seal like a mofo. LOL It might take a little work, but im guessing you could " persuade" it off. Quote
