Banshee Chad Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 So my banshee is pretty new still. Only got 5 rides on her. I figured it was time to change the plugs, well they were black as shit. put the new ones in and it seemed to run a lot better. Just wondering how often i should be changing them (my bike is completely stock 2006) Thanks guys! Quote
Bansh-eman Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 i properly jetted motor you can run a set of plug for many years. your where black because your jetting is too rich and or your premix has too much oil in it. Quote
Banshee Chad Posted March 23, 2008 Author Report Posted March 23, 2008 im mixing 24 to 1 like the manual says. i know most people are running 32 to 1 or less. but id rather give up a little power and rebuild less often. is the jetting too rich gonna hurt anything? i havent messed witht he jetting even, kept it completely stock. plus im not sure what to jet it at. our elevation changes so much from the dunes to the mountains, and i didnt wanna be messing with the jetting everytime i ride somewhere diff, or is that something i need to do? If so, i think ill get a tors removal kit while im into the carbs, and check my float levels. Thanks, Quote
locogato11283 Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 shit, i cant remember the last time i changed my plugs. Quote
Banshee Chad Posted March 23, 2008 Author Report Posted March 23, 2008 ya, i dont need it to be the fastest thing out there, hell i gotta lot of catching up to do if i want to come close, and i aint got the money. So shee is staying stock, maybe get some pipes next spring. I do a lot of all around riding, proly 50/50 sand, mountains. so its fast enough for me, coming from a warrior its pretty fast. so with the plan of keeping it mostly stock, i figure the gains id get from running leaner, doesnt really matter a ton now. With the jetting being too rich, thats not gonna hurt anything will it?? Thanks. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 all your doing is wasting oil at 24:1 bumping it back to 32 or even 36 will not do anything to the motor. your still getting enough lubrication. all your doing is wasting oil. you can only lube the metal so much. Running rich will not hurt anything, you will just foul plugs and have to replace them. But if the bike sits for a while you can end up gumming up the jets which could make the motor lean out and blow up. Quote
IrideA250R Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 many good oils even recommend 50:1 or more. If your plugs are black, that isn't good. It would really suck to foul a plug out in the middle of no where because your jetting is too rich, wouldn't it? Quote
shee rips Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 i run 32:1 and its no special brand oil, but my motors still look good every time they are apart. i just carry spare plugs with me. i fouled one on my dirtbike in the middle of but fuck nowhere, luckily some campers were nearby and bummed us a rope to tow me home, but since then spare plugs stay with the bike. another idea if its not the oil foluling your plugs, is to take the snorkel off the airbox. that would let a little more air. RollinRhino Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 (edited) During the break in period I always run my bikes rich on the Klotz. 20:1 knowing that the plugs will be toast in short order, but with the heavy lube I get a good break in on the bottom end. Then after I get that over with I change the plugs and go to 40:1 from then on. Synthetic oil has changed everything on these two strokes. Way back in the day of Bel Ray and leaded fuel you would be lucky to last on 32:1 or leaner. Edited March 23, 2008 by RollinRhino Quote

You want the metal to have some friction so it will wear together and seat the rings properly. Quote
Banshee Chad Posted March 24, 2008 Author Report Posted March 24, 2008 ok, maybe im being too careful. ill mix the next batch at 32 to 1. im running regular yamalube 2r. thanks Quote
