Dinner Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Hey Guys, Soo I'm finally getting some actual porting done and a bit of motor work done. I'm sending my engine off to RB Racing in Michigan, going to try Bob out. I'm going to be getting Aggressive Dune Port, Shaved Stock Head, Cases ported and then have my engine re-built with a trued and welded crank, all that fun stuff. Now I'm hoping to get my engine shipped out Monday if all goes well. My questions are, I'm thinking of buying some larger carbs obviously to feed this thing. I was thinking a set of 33 PWK's from FAST and then the necessary jets. I've never really had to deal with Keihin's so will these carbs be a good size? Also getting chain, flywheel puller, clymer manual, spark plug caps, etc from Jeff. So will those carbs be fairly good on a Dune ported engine? I will probably ask him (Bob) as well, need to still talk to him about some stuff. But I just want your guys opinions as well. And how much difference will I notice with this engine work I'm getting, compared to what I have now? Thanks Guys, Dinner Quote

WALLACE84 Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Before my clutch went out on my play banshee I tried 35's on it (has an agressive dune port) and it ripped pretty hard. I had Denny (Flotek) do my port work but 87sheerips had RB do his and he loves it. Lets us know when you get it back Quote
wacko2000 Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 when I was getting all my motor work done, while it out, I dod alot or research on this site and on a mild motor 33pwk seem to be the token, I had my motor done by Jim @passion and he swear by the 33's I ended up keeping my stockers bc shee runs so good with them, but thats just my 02cents.. You dont want to have to much carb, bc that will hurt you also... I have mx port and all the other goodies and it runs awesome and Im still rocking the stock carbs.. Quote

Yea you definitely dont want to over carb it but I can tell you right mine wasnt. My mods are: -Agressive Dune port with boost ports -lightened flywheel -timing +5 -vf3s -noss head with 20cc (now 18) -35 pwks with powerjetts (but setup for gas right now) -of course K&N clamps on -Rocket Pipes These dont really matter but it was just rebuilt with vitos crank and wisecos (std bore) Quote
Fireroad Express Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 (edited) i'd have to agree with wacko 2000. the 33's are a good choice. you'll always have enough carb for most future upgrades. don't want to go to big either. Edited February 23, 2008 by the grinch Quote
05Special Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 RB Porting did my bike.. Excellent work.. big had so much more on top.... Quote
Dinner Posted February 24, 2008 Author Report Posted February 24, 2008 The main reason im going for larger carbs is because well I'm actually getting some porting done, going to advance my timing, blah, blah, blah. And well I can run my stock carbs dry right now at certain times. Usually on the roads when I'm traveling between places and on certain hills I climb, I will run the stockers out of fuel I didn't think that 33's are too too big... Quote

Dinner Posted February 24, 2008 Author Report Posted February 24, 2008 Well to be honest, I am not exactly sure if I am running them dry, however. I'll be on the throttle a bit on the road, or before a hill. I'll go to open her up a bit and it'll start pulling, then all the sudden the RPM's will start like breaking apart...it sounds like the engine is well starving, lol So then I let off for a bit and then let them fill back up. On the roads it is "ok" to happen (well not really cause running the carbs dry, if that what is happening sucks and is not good) then i can just let off and carry on. However on the hills I shut the bike down, and ride down backwards or turn it back around and ride down Quote

Have u junked the stock petcock for a pingle? My stock 350 with bored out carbs (stock) never ran out of fuel with the pingle. Quote
BigRobb Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 Not to hijack this, but my carbs were doing the same thing after i dumped my bike on a light roll (tried to cut a corner went up on the burm and the sand gave out) so the bike went on its side, then when i went rippin down the beach in 4th and 5th gear it seemed to me like my bike was cutting out and i was fine on gas, what could be the cause for this, idk if it was from that little tip or if it was from something else... I'm just looking at your avatar, if it's not too much to ask  And if you guys like, feel free to answer BigRobb's question...which is pretty much mine. Is that what running the carbs out of fuel is like? Can't wait to get my motor back and all good to go!!!! I have Aggressive Dune Port, Shaved Head, Cases Ported, 33 PWK's, +4 swinger, mostly all new parts in the engine, new bushings for the front, re-built rear shock, new rear tires, the list goes on!!!
