hey all,

i have never heard of this but was wondering if it would have a positive return on anything (HP, Torque) or even for that matter be a feasible project?

Im not real familiar with 2 strokes, I have mostly worked on my drag cars, thats why i am asking but was just wondering if anyone else had heard or seen such a thing.

thanks

I've often wondered the same thing, I know that a good performance exhaust system on a vehicle would have a "X" - Pipe and that is for exhaust scavenging, but also wondered what would happen on the Banshee if the stingers were made into an "X" - Pipe ???

My guess is just like a boost bottle.

In theory, on paper....it might work for a banshee.

In reality and in day to day practice, I'd say it wouldn't do anything...

With all the different exhausts out there made for the single best selling ATV of all time, no one has done this to my knowledge and been able to prove it works as well....

Your probably right, I wonder if it would be worth anybodys time to maybe make one and then dyno it back to back just for shits and giggles. When I got my basket case finished I would be willing to try it, just to see if there would be anything to get excited about but that isn't going to happen anytime soon. I do have acces to a Dyno Jet free of charge to do multiple tests on though when I do get it done....

Go for it man you never know till you try it you know who knows maybe you'll come up with something good? worth selling lol

maybe worth a try i guess,

but there are alot of pipe builders out there.

i'm sure that at least one(if not more) has tried that

and many other things for two strokes that just didn't

make that much difference.

the expansion chambers are the key to performance

on a two stroke. like dave said.......probably wouldn't really

even matter beyond them.

I personally don't think it will work on a twin two stroke because of the delicate scavenging design of an exhaust pipe.

DMCs just both feed into one muffler, don't they??

i was thinking maybe it would help draw out exhaust from the opposite cyl. that would be on its down stroke. idk just a thought.

thanks for all the replys

theirs already a cross over in the intakes on banshees. theirs no need for one in the exhaust. its just to equalize air flow threw out the motor. if its tuned right it doesnt even need the one in the intakes.

Maybe my thinking was wrong, but I thought the crossover in the intake was there to try and keep the carbs closer to a constant velocity keeping the efficiency of the veturi's up.

My thinking was for the exhaust crossover was for scavenging the exhaust flow thru the stingers, not the chambers.

even the 916's muffler is divided into two sections, so the exhaust gas from one pipe never comes into contact with the other. i have never seen a cross-over being used on a 2 stroke. i doubt it would be very effective. one of the strangest 2 stroke exhaust set-ups i've seen were "center dump pipes" on a snowmobile. the pipes exhausted in the center of the expansion chamber and the exhaust end of the pipe just came to a cone with no opening. ski-doo used these pipes on some of there late 90's formula machines. good power and awesome fuel mileage were characteristics of these machines.
