hollisatp Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 (edited) Do I need to buy new wrist pins when I change my pistons to aftermarket?? are they the same as the stock ones? and what about the wrist pin bearings? Edited January 21, 2008 by hollisatp Quote
bansheeman1988 Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 You should change your wrist pins everytime you overhaul the top end. Reguardless if they look okay, the new ones are also the same size as your stock connecting rods. Hope this helps. Quote
hollisatp Posted January 21, 2008 Author Report Posted January 21, 2008 thanks.. what about the bearings?? i modified my post but after you posted sorry... Quote
dajogejr Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 I would replace both, pin and bearing each fresh top end. Do you have to? Nope...but to be 100% honest, it's cheap insurance...and you're gonna have it apart any way, so...not like it's extra labor. Quote
MDS2106 Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 When you order new pistons, they should come with new wrist pins and clips.... Quote
jbooker82 Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 Wiseco pistons come with new pins and clips but no berrings. I believe majic racing throws in the berrings when you get one of there kits. Quote
csrmel Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 wrist pins in a 2 stroke wear very quick compared to the rest of the bearings. if i had to guess i would say it is because of the additional heat that the wrist pin sees being so close to the piston crown. its literally right underneath it. brand new wiseco wrist pin bearings only run $10 each. if you going to replace some top end parts. you might as well do the job right and replace the wrist pin bearings at the same time. what is that old saying. if something is worth doing, its worth doing right!
