05Special Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 make sure it's jetted right...My buddy had some 340's in his stock carbs and the left cylinder would fart and pop...Dropped down to 260's i think??? Ran great... Bike can't burn that kind of fuel.. it was just soaking the plug..Try flipping the carbs around and see if the right cylinder does it. Just need some extra hose to do a little re routing of some lines..If it still does it I would think it was something internal...best of luck to ya.. Quote
tnr Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 I just went througha similar problem. The left cylinder would only run fine at idle, once you gave her some throttle it seemed to fire every other stroke. I did everything I could think of and found the reeds on the left cylinder were not seating all the way. Got them to seat and shee ran great. Just another avenue to possibly go down. Good luck. Quote
skylor Posted March 25, 2008 Author Report Posted March 25, 2008 It ran fine for about 6 months though? so I don't see how it could be jetting? the reeds are down against the cages so I don't think their not seating. any other opinions? something else I should check anything? lol I just want to get this thing running. tnr Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 When looking through the intake boots my reeds seemed fine as well, but when I took the left side out you could see it wasnt seating. Not sure if you went that route. Quote

Check to see if you are getting good fuel flow to the carbs (and thru the needle valves). Put a timing light on it and watch the flywheel look for misstimed sparks. Do a pressure test on the motor. Swap the carbs from side to side see if it follows the carb. (you did say only one side was running bad didn't you). make sure your muffler is not totaly plugged Read the plugs. Take it to a shop Or drive it as a 175 they still run respectable considering..... Quote
skylor Posted March 27, 2008 Author Report Posted March 27, 2008 Nope took the reeds out and checked them. Both fuel lines are clear and routed the way they are supposed to be. Cylinders are at 115 psi. The right side is the side that isn't running. Pipes clear the whole way through it only bogs up till half throttle past half throttle both the cylinders kick on and it runs just how it should. Can't really read the plugs haven't rode it I don't want to mess anything up. Don't have money for the shop. Quote

The carb slides were way out of sink. It ran mostly on one cylinder, execpt at specific throttle positions. I am sure you checked it, but I thought I would mentioned it. Quote
